yeah, at 1:11 you can see that building or whatever it is, I saw it at the last moment and shut my eyes waiting for the inevitable, but it never came. :D

haitch40 08-25-2009 03:09 PM

LOL, just remember, come in slow and angled back. Belly landings are alot harder though!

haitch40 08-25-2009 03:13 PM

btw was this on sim mode?

yep, forgot to post that in the video description, and I even forgot to use flaps! I was very lucky towards the end, and at that sharp turn that i didn't stall. Keeping up the speed is essential :)

There is a "pull up" and a stall warning on screen so no sim mode.

ThatYoungGameGuy 08-25-2009 03:21 PM

nope, i can assure you that i did this on sim mode :)

streetridaz 08-25-2009 03:28 PM

thats funny you posted this because yes.....yesterday night I did the samething on sim mode. I was doing touch and goes and then I was like hmmmm. Lets do a touch and go on the bridge. lol great fun! By the way on simulation mode I don't get pull up and stall indicators. I think your on realistic

yeah it is pretty fun, but i can't make out what that big block is at about 1:11, anyone have any ideas?

You must be mistaken because really in Sim mode you dont get pull up sign.
I can also see your flap switch moving around

hmmm, maybe it was realistic then, definitely not arcade, i'll check the full recording.

SleepTrgt 08-25-2009 03:37 PM

It does seem your HUD is off tho.

yeah i turned that fully off, so that the video would look better, and i just checked the recording, and it was indeed set to realistic, apologies for the mistake. :S

no need to apologize.....just set it to sim and do it again! lol

SleepTrgt 08-25-2009 03:44 PM

No problem i guess easy mistake when Hud is turned off :P

sure is, any idea of what that block is on the bridge at about 1:11?

mattd27 08-25-2009 04:00 PM

haha, very well done. I still need to perfect my landings a bit, but now I definitely want to try the bridge at some point!

By the way, did you get this first try? If not how many attempts did it take you?

nope, luckily i got this first try, then again i did have alot of practice on sim landings. Check out my other videos, i did a belly landing one, and one at the airfield.

David603 08-25-2009 05:17 PM

Nice. Looks like you won't have such a hard time as most new comers to carrier landings if there is a Pacific Theatre sequel.

PF_Lizard 08-25-2009 06:29 PM

Oh come on, where was the victory roll after take-off?

Swagger7 08-25-2009 06:30 PM

Very well done! But what's with the Copland music? It just seems weird to here such classic American music while looking out at England from a Spitfire's cockpit! Great job though!

lol, i thought it would set a happy mood :D

merro 08-25-2009 07:26 PM

Gotta try that right now on Sim Mode!
I will need more then one attempt to achieve this

yeah its pretty hard lol.

Kamak86 08-25-2009 08:49 PM

i also have done this! nice job!

Tomo 08-25-2009 09:19 PM

Wow, visually this game still amazes me every time i see it. Gaijin should win some kind of award for this. What an achievment.

Anyway, well done:)

yeah, when i saw that i was like sh*t! But i managed to swerve and narrowly miss it :D

Riceball 08-25-2009 11:26 PM

Is the video sped up at the end when you take off?

It looks like that puppy has rocket engines. :)

Duguall 08-26-2009 01:33 AM

Sadly, this is one of my pet peeves about this game, the takeoff. You can go from 0 to WEP in 1 second with no consequences while taking off and take off in 15-30 feet.

Soviet Ace 08-26-2009 03:38 AM

Just saying, but shouldn't this go in your video thread?? Nice video though. I've successfully landed on the bridge as well.

David603 08-26-2009 03:52 AM

Its rather like landing on a carrier, but with a bit more room for error. Still, getting it on the first go is very good, it took me multiple tries to land a Seafire on a carrier.

Mr_Steven 08-26-2009 09:07 AM

Can someone confirm the take-off afterburners on sim mode please?

I can't take-off that fast, nor can I slow down anywhere near that speed on Simulator.

Are you sure that's not in arcade mode? You shed your speed so quickly?

Also, I just landed on the bridge... the small one! lol I ran out of 'runway' pretty quickly and it ended in flames!

I tried the longer bridge, and like all my landings in this game - they're smooth and gentle but trying to get the plane past that bl**dy 31mph brick wall is so difficult.
The easiest way to stop using 'aviator' config is to ding your prop so the engine cuts! lol

Duguall 08-26-2009 11:05 AM

Let me try to elaborate. In IL-2 1946 skipping the sim engine starting and all that, you can be on a carrier with chocks up and engine at 70% and let go of chocks it takes the whole carrier to get up to speed for takeoff and that is with the engines warmed up. Imagine the same thing except the acceleration is so fast on the ground its like the plane is accelerating in the air from 0-170+ by the time you can safely pull up you really aren't that far from where you started.

And on the landing thing, I tried to land on the harbour walls between the light houses on the left wall, I almost got it but when I hit 20 km/h I hit the lighthouse!

Yeah and that's usually with the carrier moving into the wind, giving you an even higher airspeed. And even then, you can't pull up that hard unless you want to go for a swim. :o

I tried that lighthouse landing too! lol I cant' stop the plane in time because of the '31mph bug' and the lack of brakes using the aviator setup!

Has anyone tried to go under a bridge yet? I swear you blow up automatically!? I've checked both wings aren't clipping, I'm not grinding the roof etc; you just can't go under them!

bird of bait 08-26-2009 03:04 PM

i cant land my plane for some strange reason the lowest speed i ever reached was 150 km/h does anyone has tips for me

This is definatly done on arcade mode. Check out the RPM dial on the right when he uses WEP, it only goes up that high and quickly in arcade. Still its a pretty cool video. Can it be done in the harder modes aswell?
