Show off with your score!

Time for some score comparison

Red skies of Dover: 1480 points

Tiger hunt: 78 points :(

(Both on simulation difficulty)

Tiger hunt proved extremely frustrating for me. Though I saw claims that ammo is unlimited on all modes my rockets are not reloading in realistic and sim difficulty. Due to my bad aiming (lets call it guessing, you hardly see the targets) I had to eject several times in order to have fresh supplies.

Actually I love ground missions in sim games more than air2air, but the Dover mission really got me hooked - I played it approximately 30 times this weekend. My greatest moment must have been damaging two bombers' engines and having them drift towards each other, resulting in a nice violent explosion when they collided

What's your score and what was your favourite moment when playing the demo? Time to frustrate me ;)

I'm about to jump back in the cockpit on Simulation mode and see what I've got. I go with 0 retrys though. No joke the artillery pieces are hard to see! That is frustrating, and probably realistic. When I do find them, I put the mustang into the dive, give him some rockets, then the real battle begins-trying to get that mustang out of the dive without plowing into terra firma while 109's pepper me from above. Is this game great or what? Did you go back to the dover mission on Sim mode?

Got 3482 points on Dover Simulator.

double

How many targets did you shoot down? 100? Or have you been extremely quick? I still don't know how the points are calculated but >3000 points is really awesome.

SleepTrgt 08-11-2009 01:26 PM

Trick is: Dont die :-P shoot down couple of bombers, i think i killed 8.

That's my trouble. Usually after taking down some bombers my plane is so badly damaged that I cannot zoom after the Stukas anymore. So I usually feel forced to eject and get a fresh plane. My 'record' round was with one retry, 11 shot down enemies and a flawless landing.

SleepTrgt 08-11-2009 01:47 PM

i dont like landing because i dont have brakes.
But you got pretty much kills there.
See what i can do today! xD
But first a warm up in arcade!

Having no brakes sucks - I'm also using a joystick. But landing is still very rewarding - another reason why I like the Dover mission more. Just flying to the checkpoint on Tiger Hunt is a bit dull.

Did anybody actually ever finish Tiger Hunt on Simulation or Realistic difficulty with only one attempt? 40 rockets is much more than they actually had on the Mustang in WWII but still it's not enough to destroy all artillery, the tanks plus two trains.

SleepTrgt 08-11-2009 02:22 PM

I ignore the ground targets in tiger hunt, fly high above first checkpoint and a wing of 8 FW190D jump in.
Lets start the dogfight!

Sim score- a modest 3655 on Dover... 8kills...

last game finally made a beautiful run on 3 heinkels without a scratch and then clipped a fourth.... one he111 flipped into another! Utterly jaw dropping...

beginning to come together with barrell roll attacks on he111 and looping scissors to bleed speed and reposition...love this game!

what do you mean no brakes? There are brakes when you land in this game, reversing the throttle thumb stick slows you to a stop when landing. im 90% postive on this, it cant be friction it slows way too fast for that.;)

Hmmm, thinking about it you might be right - still I would love to have a confirmation from Anton :)

I know that pulling the throttle back on the controller engages the brakes, but we heard no comment from the devs yet. Though it would explain why you sometimes flip over when stopping - which is kind of annoying when you pulled off a nice landing :(

(point is when you are in that pack bombers you collect so much lead that you haven't any speed left for the stuka's ... you hear those nasty tic, tic, tic of bullets hitting your plane ... but the game is surely beautiful with so much action going on)

btw, if you order your squad to attack, do those kills count too??

are you rolling and moving as you take out the He111s?

squad kills don't add to yours, not sure about score...

Also trying to line up some bombers is pretty devestating:)

for me its whatever point on the roll than the bomber falls in the sights, quick burst, continue rolling scissor/loop whatever...

Head on is fun - who cares if its not productive...

Should be good tactic for killing the pilot!

juz1 08-12-2009 07:54 AM

did some research today and head on was a favoured anti bomber tactic...I also saw a Pathe news info film showing a hurricane attack pattern across the wing axis avoiding the gunners arcs of fire...

now if only I could avoid target fixation I might not ram the buggers!!

Well you know the score somehow means nothing if you cannot compare and I was quite sure that mine was not that great but had no idea how big the difference was

Apart from that it keeps us motivated playing the demo til the game comes.

DannyBooze 08-12-2009 08:23 PM
