are the AI more "lethal" in single missions?
I have yet to actually been SHOT DOWN in this game by fighter aircraft.
even on simulation , 99 percent of the time when i die its me hitting the ground or other planes |
I'm assuming since they are marketing mainly to people that are not sim players the answer is probably no (at least not for sim flyers). There may be some later missions with "aces" but I doubt they will make it that hard for marketing purposes. I am just using this demo to practice for multiplayer anyway, might be months before I even fly the campaign once the game ships

I've been shot down once. Most of the time they are on my tail firing away and I've had my plane all shot to hell but only got taken out the one time. I did have my engine go out in the Bulge mission. I think it was from the flack but not sure.

Actually...
On the "The Red Skies of Dover" mission, while I was just messing around, moziing along, barrel rolling, flipping, doing everything BUT the actual mission, not shooting at a single plane... Suddenly a prompt popped up saying mission clear, hit back to continue... I am definitely hoping for a touch more challenge than that. . |
Yeah I hear ya, I think if you don't get to work right away your wigman will finish the job for ya. Well at least they aren't morons like in the ace combat series.

I was worried about this myself.
I believe it's only because they had only put the easiest missions in the demo and that is typically what you find in most demos. I know there are different types of modes(arcade, real, sim) we can play from, but is there going to be more campaign options besides Difficulty and Lives? I will more likely be caught shooting down noobs in multiplayer then playing the missions anyway. I'm getting a Dazzle DVD recorder for my Xbox so I plan on making short movies of IL2 soon on YouTube. |

I Hope to star some of you guys in it since I plan on showing the incredibly epic things you can do and see in IL2. |
hmm, my last game Tiger hunt on sim.
More then half of the enemy fighters just crashed. |

i was on sim mode on that level and after messing about for almost 40 minutes all the friendlies dissapeard (shot down) and i had about 3 109's chasing me around so i decided to land my bird in a field and after about 10 minutes a 109 just chrashed about 200 meters ahead of me. Whether its something to do with fuel or they just crashed in an attept at shooting me, i dont know |

Also had a wave of like 6 or 8 planes coming at me, passed me. i turned around and atleast 3 of them crashed... For them dissapearing sometimes they just go out of your range, cant see them on the map anymore. |

Yes, I know what you guys mean. I was playing the first mission of the campaign and I could not concentrate because I was also busy with something else, I did shoot down a couple of bombers, though. Then I heard someone scream that the enemy bombers were coming through and that they're going to bomb the harbour if we don't do anything fast. I hurried to the harbour only to find out a crowd of bailed out pilots on chutes (??) and hardly any bombers.
I was like... where did they go? Were they shot down by AAA guns, or wingmen? I mean, is there any way to actually FAIL the mission? I do hope there is because I don't want the game to play itself, you know. As for being shot down, I was at least once. The canopy was all like swiss cheese and the controlls no longer worked. I wanted to find an airstrip to land but went into an unrecoverable spin close to the ground. Splash. |

I've been shot down a couple of times by the henkels themselves, not actually by any fighters...
As for the fighters, they usually chase me for a while and fire some pot shots in my general direction. They then try to escape me, often only to spin out of control and crash. |

is this a bug? i hope so |
A bug? Probably not.
I think the AI is pretty good actually, it's just not aggressive enough. Maybe it has something to do with the missions themselves. A level with a lot of fighters would probably be harder, I think. |
hmm i just, flying around alone, my wingmens are gone in Tiger hunt, Finally spot an enemy, he just randomly crashes into the ground again. Its like they have a harder time controling their planes than we do!
|
Damn this is pretty lame, 6 fighters come at me, im moving away from them, 2 just crashes... keeps happening all the time, just aint right.
Edit: So after batteling the 6 fighters, I've hit 2 who crashed later by themselfs, the other 4 just crashed. |
Only once have I seen an enemy fighter crash and it was because I filled with a bunch of holes so it lost control and crashed.

Hope the AI can be more aggressive, I've been shot down once. By the H-111, but to be honest I was practically flying in formation with them to study the exterior of the planes :-) my cockpit was totalled, I could not see out of the windows and the engine gave away slowly before stopping completely. I was high up over the sea and aimed for a emergency landing on some field but came just short and exploded on the cliffs! amazing!! |

I love that too. Once an Me 109 got behind me and filled my plane with holes. I couldnt see out the cockpit and there were holes everywhere in the cockpit. he then shot my wing off and I went spinning out of control and crashed. And it was pretty cool because I was in the cockpit while it was happenning.
