Missing sound effects...........
Ok maybe I've just been spoiled by IL2 for the PC for years...but I swear I'm not hearing ANY sound effects for the wind in a dive or more importantly the shuddering of the wings/fuselage when you are approaching a high speed stall.
How am I supposed to know if I'm maneuvering my plane too aggressively if there are no audible clues (cough ...PC) ??? |
Quote:
Maybe its your sound settings / system |
I hear the sounds perfectly fine.
But that reminds me. Is it possible to overstress the wings and rip the plane apart? Anybody? |
could be let me go check... as of right now I hear no wind or shuddering before a stall.

Nope tried through both my 5.1 receiver and standard TV speaker. I turned the volume way up and it seems there is a very light looping wind effect (not one that increases decreases with speed)
I can live with that....but the BIG problem is no shuddering sound effect before a high speed stall!!! I've been playing IL2 on the PC versions for years and that is the most important factor in aggressive flight... You can't tell when you are about to high speed stall without it. |

However, we've switched this option off in the game (at least in Arcade/Realisitc, don't remember about Sim). It is really confusing for most players, and was reported as a bug by all players: press, focus group, players on public events. It would definetly be a bug in final platformholder's QA. |

but there is a sound effect for it . |

In any case, need to check with a team this one. |

no there isn't.. I about blew the speakers on my sound system trying to find it. |

Thanks Anton on checking, I don't think some of the forum members know what I'm talking about unless they tell me they've played the PC version and understand the shuddering audio effect I'm talking about. As the game sits right now it's a no buy for me....it's a game breaker. I'm not gonna guess on when my plane will stall...that's riduculous. It's like driving a car/racing sim and there isn't any audio for loss of tire traction... |
Try setting up you sound properly!
|
Quote:
Do you even know what sound effect I'm talking about????? Yeah... probably not because you've never played IL2 on the PC. No one else is going to complain unless they've played IL2 on the PC and know what I mean. |
No offene - but buying a game of this quality for a sound issue is silly. I Guess it's a perference issue.

How are you going to know if your plane is about to enter a high speed stall with out the audio for it??? As of right now there is no warning! The audio cue is your warning in the PC versions to easy off the stick. It's a very important issue. |
Yes i have i have played on it since release! I know what your talking bout! It WORKES FINE!!! I GOT MY MATES 360 AND TRIED!!! (i have ps3) It WAS there! its YOUR setup!

Ok, I've tried everything.
Going through the 5.1 receiver with component cables, component cables directly to the TV, normal RCA cables directly to the TV, digital optical cable to the TV and reciever. Tried the 3 different 360 Dashboard digital audio settings with component cables. Tried the analog vs stereo dashboard setting with the RCA cables. Nothing works. Unless someone want to tell me my 360 is broken because ONE sound effect will not play. Bottom line unless someone can post a video showing me different there just is no sound effect implemented for shuddering before a high speed stall. There is a sound effect for a fast dive and a sound effect for flying under 150m....but again no stall. Guess I will have to play the demo on realistic mode instead of simulation because at least their is a stall icon that appears on the screen before you actually stall....bummer. Hopefully this gets added in the Retail version |
bump....
Anyone else familar with the IL2 PC version notice the shuddering sound effect before a high speed stall is missing from BOP???. I tried the demo at a friends house last night on a completly different xbox and sound system and it doesn't play either. I watched a couple ign videos and it also doesn't play. Is anyone else even upset with this mistake???? You won't know when you are entering a high speed stall without this audio effect in simulation mode. In realistic mode it will briefly say STALL which is a big help, but... there should also be a sound effect present in both modes just as in the PC version. |
do i really have to take a video showing you the sound?
|

yes...please do it would put my mind at rest. Here is a ign video.... and guess what no shuddering sound at 48 seconds..all you here is the engine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AhV8wo4ZIg |

Why have you not yet posted a video showing us just what the heck you ARE talking about from the PC game? :P . |

It's hard to find a IL2 video without music on youtube... I'll have to keep looking for something better but in the meantime here is what I'm talking about at exactly 2:41... turn up the volume and listen... this does NOT happen before a stall in BOP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7Ler9ByRdc |
Here's a good one. Mostly happens in the first ten seconds of the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrrB5aYvngg Hopefully the AI in Birds of Prey can't do that. :) |

If I can here that in the PC version on crappy youtube video why can't I hear it in BOP?? |
I know exactly how you feel, its dissapointing it doesn't appear in BoP, I can't tell when I'm pulling the stick too tight. Lets hope it appears in a DLC or Title update, which seems to me very probable considering the amount of feedback from us sim guys.

I messed with 2 sound systems and 2 different xboxes yesterday for about 3 hours. Someone in the audio dept made mistake deciding what was important and what could slide by....hell you can here fires burning on the ground at 200 meters.....lol... that could of been sacrificed for this one little sound effect letting you know when you are stalling. |
OK. I've been toying around with this and it seems that the sound is there, but only in EXTERNAL view. I can hear it in both arcade and realistic difficulty. Obviously I can't hear it in simulation because there is no external view. It's quieter than in Il-2 1946, but it's there.
Also, the planes don't seem to shake or buffet at all before stalling. |
Quote:
oh and whats with your signature? id like to know about that picture |
Quote:
You know what I hadn't thought of trying external view...just tried arcade mode in external view...and there is an audio effect for a tight turn which would produce a stall in sim or realistic... too bad it isn't audible from within the cockpit. That's why I keep seeing posts that there is a sound effect ... it just doesn't work from within the cockpit! |
Hmm... I've been listening very carefully and I can't hear it in cockpit view. I think we need Anton to talk to the dev team about this.
The picture in my sig is of a Spitfire "tipping" a V-1 flying bomb. |

Maybe the problem is that since this was a console release they play tested with a bunch of flight sim noobs? Who are used to blazing angels?

iTS ok I thank them for even making this game in this day and age of punk jerkoffs talking smack in halo or jump shooting with the sniper rifle.
Thank you 1C |

Hope this gets fixed if the sound is missing in cockpit.
There's no real reliable way (for me anyways) to get maximum turn and avoid stalling without listening for that sound. This really needs to be address or the sim mode becomes somewhat crippled. |
also, I find it strange that the engine sounds the same from 0% to 100% throttle. WEP will change the sound but otherwise it doesnt.
I did some landing practise of the Dover level (played thru both levels on arcade first  for the 5th time, not the last, still counting to september 4th:rolleyes:) and on my approach I set throttle to 0%, no change in audio untill airspeed was like 190km/t then the engine sound started dropping. Anyone else thought about this? |
I noticed that too, but didn't want to complain about too many things at the same time. :)
|
Quote:
Yeah I noticed that also...kinda a let down for me also. I keep feeling the need to complain about alot of other little things but I'm just trying to take it as it is for now. I know things can't always be perfect but it's just mind boggling to me how a gamebreaker like the shuddering effect was left out. |

I think we will have to wait for the game to test this out since the Spitfire has big wings. Let's see how a 109 handles it.:) |

I am so stoked about this game and give monster kudos to all those involved with it's production but I have top say that no change in engine sound is really weird. That is a big disappointment. Imagine having to drive a manual car without the sound of the engine.
Also, I really would expect their to be a stall warning system (audible or visual). I would assume that pilots IRL could "feel" changes in their ships behaivior/controls when they were close to stall conditions. This will not stop me from buying the game as in all other aspects it appears to be incredible but engine noise/stall warning issues really upsets me. |
Yes you get this totaly 'unnatural' feeling
|
Yeah, I think actually the sound of the engine should be a heads up of sorts. I think that could work?
|
@ Butterfield:
You probably don't care for this, but i watched your youtube vid and noticed that there's no voiceacting either? The yellow subtitles are there, and clearly Brown is talking you through instructions on plane handling, but where's his voice? I noticed this on more tutorial missions in the full game...what if you opted to turn off subs..you wouldn't know what to do,or does the game force the subs there because no voice adio was recorded? |
Have you guys noticed the heavy breathing sound you get when you pull lots of gs? I had never heard it before and then all of a sudden, the sound gets muffled, and my pilot starts to breathe hard, pretty cool. But yeah, those missing sound effects must be adressed in a patch.
|
guys Anton has said a long time ago in a different thread that the pre stall shudder sound was missing in the demo and that was a glitch and would be fixed in the retail version. brb with quote lol.
|
KK so i found the quote

So was the stall sound fixed in the retail version. I thought something was missing every time I stall in the demo, know i realise why I was stalling the mustang more than I thought I should, I was missing the audio cues and didn't even realise it lol
Its not a game breaker for me if it isnt fixed but it is anoying to have no idea you are stalling until its to late. |
