Troops morale
What are the requirements to have a better-than-neutral morale ? Several posts on this boards seem to indicate that you have to create an army composed of only one race to achieve this but it doesn't seem to work for me.
For example, the initial army you start the game with has a neutral morale (except for the knights). I also tried to fill all the slots by splitting one of the stacks but it didn't work. Is it just me (maybe I shouldn't expect morale to work as in homm) or do you manage to get positive morale ? Great game with awesome fun otherwise ! |
The morale bonus doesn't seem to work for human troops. Later in the game when I made an army of Dwarves they got the +1 morale for being all one race. I didn't even have to fill all the army slots to get it.
There are artifacts that will raise the morale for certain troops as well, such as a keg of beer that gives +1 morale to Dwarves. Personally, I think it should give +1 morale to everyone. :D |
The only way I've been able to accomplish high moral is with items that give +1 or +2 to a certain races moral. Knights just seem happy regardless. :) Also, putting an Elf and Dwarf in the army will result in lower moral for each.
That's all i've figured out, i'll try an army of all one race as typically i have some shaman mixed in. Off topic: Does anyone know if shaman are available elsewhere than the islands? I'm starting to run out, totem happy! |
Well there are units that can boost morale as well, for example the guardsman can boost the morale of bowmen and swordsmen, and i believe the black knights can boost the morale of all undead.
Otherwise there are items out there that can do so as well, there is a belt to boost the morale of priests and inquisitors.. but i haven't seen anything that gives an overall boost to human troops.. |
The Marshal's baton gives +1 to human races, at least my variant does. I'm not sure if it's random.

I don't think the effects of items are varied.. so i will be looking forward to that :D Got it up to general right now.

Certain wives like Xeona also affect the troops' morale, depending on the race of the wife (e.g. Xeona is a demoness, so she gives +1 morale to all demons)
|
There's a Dwarven keg that gives +1 morale to all Dwarven units. Really makes the spider fight a lot more manageable.
|
Just to add...
Elven crown gives +1 morale to elves, Neoka (Elven Princes) also does the same. |

I *think* the maximum morale you can have is +3. Morale increases the units attack, defense and critical strike chance. I am not sure how much exactly though. But it seems to be a decent amount. Elven crown and Elven wife, grants +2 morale to all elfs. Dwarven keg and dwarven wife, grants +2 morale to all dwarfs. Demon wife, grants +1 morale to all demons (I am unsure if there's a +demon morale item) On a sidenode, did anyone find a way to increase the moral of dragons? |
It would be great to know what is the bonus on attack, defense and Init provided by Morale .
Is this written in the russian fan manual ? |
+10% attack and defense per point of morale up to +30% for +3 morale
+25% chance of critical for +1 morale +50% chance of critical for +2 morale +100% chance of critical for +3 morale |
This shows you how good Anga's Ring is in this game. In fact I think it's probably the most overpowered item overall. Just load up on Sprites, Lake Fairies, Dryads and Demonesses and off you go.

Just to add Black knights give +1 morale to all undead units.. Which is weird cuz I though undead are not affected by morale ;p
|
When you click on the unit screen and hover over the morale icon it is show how exactly the morale is composed. I've managed to make a whole army of High Morale(Elves only, with Neoka and the crown giving +1 to morale of the elves). Still i don't think morale is very usefull. It takes the base attack of the creature so in most cases it is 2-4 attack or defense in difference. i've used an army of elves and demons (demons gives -2 morale to the elves in the army) and i barely saw any difference.
