Multiple IL-2 Installs

Is it possible to have multiple installed (same game)..lets say, a stock version and a modded one????

Cloyd 12-08-2013 10:01 PM

Yes, easily. IL2 makes no registry entries, so you can copy your entire IL2 folder anywhere you like, rename it with any name you like. Good to save a back-up copy, so that when you mod it, abuse it, corrupt it, destroy it, you can restore it from your back-up... and start all over again. ;-)

That word "registry" comes up again..

So it does not even rely on the install/uninstall function..

So just copy the folder,rename...and create separate Launchers????

Yep, you can even copy your install(s) to a USB drive and run it on whichever computer is handy. All mine are on a portable USB drive.

For what purpose?
I've bought the game eight times so far on DVD but you only need one original copy.
I install 4.07m from the latest DVD, copy it a bunch of times, then patch each up to the various versions - 4.08m, 4.09m, 4.10.1m, 4.11.1m and the latest 4.12.2m. Further copies I patch up to the required version and then mod each with HSFX4, 5, 6 and 7, UP3, DBW1.6 and 1.71.

I've never tried a downloaded version but I would assume you still have the files from when you downloaded it?
The game works just fine in all versions.

Some of the mods are aimed at earlier versions so you only patch up to that version, then install that mod pack.

That is the same file I've already already patched to 4.12.2...

I delete all dowmload files after to not have dupes and save space...I don't even have back ups...will have to start doing that

You only need to define the basic updated version you need. Then you add all other updates as if they were mods.

In that way, by using JSGME, you can put everything on a single install.

UP and DBW installs should be treated carefully, because they like to take full control of everything without need.

This has never worked for me. The majority of mods available through JGSME either don't work, lock the game, prevent the game from booting at all, or cause crashes to desktop.
As I said, hard drive space is ridiculously cheap these days so there's no need to dump all the mods into one install.

alsevillajr 12-09-2013 09:31 AM

Downloaded on GOG...great:mad: now downloads already patched through 4.12.1

What to do now:confused:

Well, I'am running UP3, HSFX, and 4.12.2 on the same install.

No problems here, even online. You must be carefull with the way you arrange the folders.

Some people are still using 4.09, but if you don't wish to go that back, you may use 4.10 as the basic version. 4.11 and later must be kept as mods.
