Regular updates

To quote Oleg: "I hope once per 2-3 weeks or so .... and more close to beta - each week like in old good time with IL-2"
As it is we are getting less not more updates so Beta must be way-off then.
Just wondering if we can expect anything soon? A screenshot of a cloud will do

waspfarmer 08-29-2008 11:05 AM

Yes, it was all very exciting... Move along.

Tree_UK 08-29-2008 01:30 PM

I dont think anyone from Oleg's crew is actually reading this forum, because if they have got time to read all the arguments etc, then im sure they would have time to make a small post to dispel some of the rumors.

HenFre 08-29-2008 01:49 PM

Actually if you look at Oleg Maddox's own profile you can see that he has been logged on today at 10.38 so he still dabbles the forum from time to time. But the again it might not be him using the profile..

Any how, wish that there would come some news regarding SOW:BOB soon.. Blink, blink.. Hint, hint.. :)

Nike-it 08-29-2008 01:58 PM

Approximately the update will be on Monday.

Tree_UK 08-29-2008 01:59 PM

Which Monday?

I had no idea it was a sporting match between developers to post in game footage.

You guys beg and beg for an update, and when one is promised it isn't good enough, even though you have not seen it yet, so you start demanding to see things.

You remind me of unruly children in a toy store who make a very loud fuss because they can't have every freaking toy they see.

I'm equally as bored of the whiners...maybe even more so with them, then with the lack of updates (and that's really sad)...

Does anyone remember how old, sad and stupid the catch phrase "Good by, you are the weakest link..." got? Does anyone remember how every numb-nut who thought they where clever would try and work it into the conversation...Well I feel the same way about "two weeks"... "two weeks".

- 4 man working on aircraft and cockpits
- 3 man at KI, FM, layout and general programming
- 3 man on the ground objects
- 2 man at graphics / effects, etc.
- 1 man, "the" Map

Such a small crew for the task that Oleg has charged them with. Just have patience men, I'm sure that they are doing their best

MiniMe 08-31-2008 08:01 AM

In comparison to the Crysis team very small. I heard they have 180

@ JG52Uther:
Yes, it is whining - on high standards, but it's whining. If you don't like it, don't read our shared opinion. ;)

Crikey , didnt realise there were so many under fives playing this game , lets see now... youve got the whingin seniors takin bites out of the whinning juniors and everyones Handbags at dawn , ok for a giggle from time to time , but its all the time now...SENIOR members... You have bin here the longest , you have the greater thread knowlege , why not put it to good use by offering guidence and advice to the newbies in a professional manner , you gain alot more peoples respect by showing restraint and offering help than you do by spitting your dummy out every time somone asks a question that youve heard a thousand times before.
1C and yourselves should be encouraging people to come here and get involved in this and the forth coming SOW not putting them off with this very childish behaviour...

Just a thought , not aimed at anyone in particular...

Ps,sorry about the spelling.

I would say...If we get an update today, everyone should just say "Thank you" to Oleg.
Criticizing whatever he posts, and asking him a ton more questions is just going to make him delay the next update even more.

If he gets a positive response to this update, then maybe we will see them more often. Here's hoping.

Tree_UK 09-01-2008 01:32 PM

Lets all practice here to make sure we get it right.....'Thank you Oleg'.

Feuerfalke 09-01-2008 01:48 PM

"Tree, I think you are absolutely right. I really couldn't agree more!"

It looks like the Beta testing of the update has caused some problems and they couldn't meet the Monday deadline, they most likely had problems with the blue background.

150-200 is common for games like Crysis, Gears of War, Call of Duty 4, ect. The average development time for such games is roughly 3 years. Very expensive games to make, but of course the publisher will most likely make a profit from these mega titles. I doubt a publisher would dump so much resources into a game such as SoW for simple fact its unlikely they will get a return on it or rather a huge profit.

S!

HenFre 09-01-2008 05:46 PM

When I read the article about the visit to 1c I was under the empression that Oleg had stated, that he had the same amount off people working on the title out of house. Which brings the total up to 32 people working on SoW:BoB. Is this not correct?

JG52Uther 09-01-2008 06:55 PM

Even after midnight in Moscow the term 'this Monday' will still be technically correct. There are many more Mondays left this year alone. Its just like saying there will be an update 'tomorrow'.

Exactly. An take in consideration that there may be many alternate universe. Each created by different decisions made by us weak humans. In some alternate universe SoW:BoB may actually have been released in November 2006. In that universe where only true fan bois live they are right now laughing their asses off at us right now. They have already received numerous free addons with flyable Whirlwinds, Deifants, Battles, Do 215:s, Beaufighters, Blenheims etc. Today they even got their He-59:s to celebrate us fools in this sour universe waiting for an update...

Which pill did you take by the way?

JG52Uther 09-01-2008 07:13 PM

BadAim 09-01-2008 09:15 PM

Not to burst anyones bubble, but Nike did say "approximately Monday" I figure that would include up to perhaps Wednesday.

Supah 09-01-2008 09:48 PM

The way I look at it by now is this. Say you own a business and one of your suppliers is developing a new product. You intend to buy this product however in order to use it you will need to invest in new tooling and machines for your process. That supplier however keeps missing deadlines and fails to communicate with you time and time again about the fact that he is likely going to miss a deadline, why he missed a deadline and has left you in the dark about the status of the product for years now. He's show you a couple of pictures of nuts and bolts but nothing substantial like a video of the machine in operation. When asked about updates he tells you he will show you something "In two weeks" or "Next monday" but those also come and go without them ever reliably coming up with the goods. Meanwhile other products from different manufactorers are coming out or are making important deadlines. I don't think such a supplier should be surprised to lose your business all together or atleast see a strong decline in people willing to use his product. Don't make promisses if you know you wont be able to keep them, it shows contempt for your users.

ElAurens 09-01-2008 09:57 PM

Anyone who has followed the gaming industry for more than two weeks (sorry) should know by now that deadline creep is a fact of life.

It just is.

One could also argue that had Oleg been more forthcoming with information and kept promisses to the community more people wouldn't have felt the need to go poking around to see if they couldn't add stuff to the old game themselves.

Your analogy [spelling??] is entertaining, but I don't think Oleg has given any promises for a very long time. He is using phrases like "I hope to start showing updates..." and such. Oleg is holding his cards extremely close to his chest. But he seem to be keeping what he is promising.

I may be mistaken but didn't the week long "Russian Vodka Fest Interational" start on Sunday Evening? Its a week long cultutral event to promote World wide peace and understaning!

So theres a week for the festival another 4 days sobering up. and three days to fix up all the mistakes made in the last 4 days.... hey that makes two weeks!

I think after recent update it will be better to stop debates about the time of appearing updates. As Oleg said, they will published when ready (and from now more often:))

Meusli 09-02-2008 01:42 PM

Update as far as I am concerned is a good one! I am absolutly loving the detail of the Stuka, looks very metal like if you know what I mean.

Edit:Oh and is that Sunderland a flyable? I so hope it is :D

Edit edit:Also the shot with the BR.20 you can see the sky and ground slightly!

Correct me if I am wrong but is the beaufighter not carrying all it's nightfighter goodies??????
Hunting J88's at night would be awesome. Or is it an AI only plane

Feuerfalke 09-02-2008 02:31 PM

It was posted before, that SoW will be capable of using airborne radar. I guess it's just a question wether we will see that included into the first release or in later addons. But I'm pretty sure it will come. ;)

Let's hope this message got through. I fear we'll be back to "normal" in 24 hours, though. And "normal" mood for some people = not good. :(

mazex 09-02-2008 03:26 PM

Well, the update was good. The planes are awsome but the most interesting part is that he says that they are nearly finished, and that there is an Alpha.

I agree that the Stuka is marvelous. It's almost too good ;) That especially goes with the ground vehicles. They are good enough for a high fidelity tank sim. When we strafe them in 500 km/h, we will only see the LOD 5 models so it's actually pearls before swine... I would rather have more low detail ground objects than a few of these in this extreme detail. Unless Oleg is thinking of letting us drive tanks in the future ;)

It was already stated that you can man FlaKs and that it is at least an option to control other groundunits later on. Considering what was said about the detailed damage-model for the ground-vehicles, I guess SoW is laying the basis for such possibilities. Considering how many Operation Flashpoint, Battlefield and JointOps players are out there, not a bad option IMHO. Doesn't mean it will come, but if it remains an option, that's only better for us ;)

Besides that, Oleg promised photorealism and he's getting pretty close. Imagine what such an engine could do for other media like documentaries or even movies!

I heard that the release of the final patch 4.09 was somehow related to the existence of alpha.. ;) anyway, good news :)

Actually it was "a certain step" reached in the development of BoB.

That this would be the Alpha-status was non-official speculation.
