Fixes and bugs in these patches which were not originally reported have not been retroactively added here.

There are also numerous unofficial fixes created by the community - entries below in green have fixes available. Please note the unofficial fixes are not compatible with an unpatched game. An improved translation and tooltip/description clarity mod is also available here. The language mod is compatible with all versions.

Getting Crashes? Here is a workaround that some people reported as helping: Add -dev to a shortcut of the EXE. If possible/necessary on your system, set the shortcut to run in administrator mode. When you encounter a freeze, just alt tab to close the error message. Another reason for crashes is the skald and/or the ice dragon. Patch 2 (which automatically applies via Steam) or avoiding these units will correct this problem.

This is our official bug reporting post. To report a bug, reply to this thread and note whether you are patched and/or any community fixes. You can also search this thread. You will find all bugs reported here with the newest bugs listed first, as follows:

Hero Skills
  1. Transmute gives double mana from traps: Build 6249. Killing a stack with trap gives transmute mana twice.
  2. Jarl skill adding its bonuses together: It should give 1% more leadership at level 1, 3% at level 2, and 5% at level 3. Instead it gives 1% at level 1, 4% (1%+3%) at level 2, and 9% (1%+3%+5%) at level 3. If this is intentional the description should be updated to say bonuses are cumulative.
  3. Warriors of Valhalla works on plot kills: When the story/plot takes away an entire troop it Warriors of Valhalla will still resurrect those troops, as well as bring back the stack that was taken away. This lets you keep the stack of units when you aren't supposed to have them anymore.

Olaf and Valkyrie Rage Abilities
  1. Valkyrie Gifts counter doesn't reset after loading: Build 6250. Some players have reported an issue where you can sacrifice items to valkyries, load the game, and still get credit for the items you sacrified before. For example, if you need to give 5 items for the next tier you could give 4, load it, and then just give 1 item to get to the next tier.
  2. Christa's Gift Problems: Build 6250. Three issues have been reported with this ability. 1) As of the latest patch it's not working at all. Enemies show the debuff Greed's Curse then walk by right it. 2) It can hang up indefinitely. If it's at level 2+ and the first mob gets attracted to the gift but is blocked by another mob, the game will hang up indefinitely. The game can also hang up if the gold is 2 spaces away even if there is a clear path. 3) It rarely affects level 3 units even at rank 1. It has been confirmed to affect sea dogs and vampires this way.
  3. Regina's Messenger delays turn: Build 6249. Using Regina's messenger delay's the active unit's right after it is cast. Once the golem appear, the next unit in the turn order will go instead, and immediately after that the original unit will act. Example: Summon golem on griffon's turn. Maidens are suddenly active once the golem appears (they were unit #2), and the griffons will go next.
  4. Rage abilities causing battle to hang up: So far, two situations are causing battle to hang up after the use of a rage ability. 1) They are using a rage ability to destroy a skeleton coffin battle obstacle and 2) using a second rage ability in the same turn as a result of the Runic Power skill. This bug will be updated when more information is known.
  5. No Olaf Rage skills used in autocombat: We are not seeing Olaf use his personal rage skills in autocombat. Is this intentional?
  6. Hilda's Arrows + Ice Prison exploit. If a target is hit with the Ice Prison spell, and then you break the prison with the Arrows rage ability, the entire stack will be annihilated and replaced with a charger.

Spells
  1. Magic Missile not 150% on Soothsayers: Build 6250. Are Soothsayer's not coded as magic users for the purposes of taking extra damage from this spell?
  2. Spear of rage on a sheep unit can cause a crash: Build 6250. Some players are reporting using a Warrior Maiden's spear of rage ability on a sheeped unit can cause a crash.
  3. Area affect spells sometimes cause no damage: Build 6250. Sometimes multi-cell targeting spells such as fire rain and blizzard cause no damage. Nothing will happen other than the animation playing; no damage and no mana cost. Casting it on a different range of cells can make it behave normally. It seems to happen most frequently on large maps, especially in gremlin tower battles.
  4. Enemy summoned phoenixes unattackable after resurrecting: Build 6250. If an enemy hero summons a phoenix and it resurrects during the battle it becomes unattackable. More info and screenshot here and here.
  5. Kamikaze hang up: Build 6250. When you destroy a "kamikazed" stack, the bomb may fail to detonate and instead hovers above the hex where the stack is. The game freezes before the next turn begins, eventually crashing.
  6. Fading chargers: Build 6250. After using Runic Word or Chargers the balls of rage or mana become much harder to see after a few rounds. In fact, they start to turn invisible yet there are still there.
  7. Book of Evil issues: Build 6250. The spellbook is not showing the impact of the creator skill on book of evil. Drain is still too weak to use. Drain requires consuming a friendly stack whose health does not exceed the Book of Evil's. However, the book's health is low you typically won't have a stack with so few hitpoints. Perhaps it should simply inflict damage equal to its health to make it usable.
  8. Sonic boom pushing Loki causes hang up: Sonic Boom can push Loki over the screen, causing him to reappear on the other side of the battlefield.
    He is turned around and when he moves again to the original starting position, the game will hang up. Loki should probably be immune to pushback.
  9. Pushing into a trap spell causes errors: Pushing an enemy into a trap with an ability or spell (as opposed to the enemy walking on it) has been reported to cause problems. Sometimes it trigges the damage and not the loss of action points. Other times nothing happens at all and game hangs up with an hour glass. Can be tested with teleport, vortex, lord of the north, sonic boom, etc.
  10. Trap + Thread of Life = Crash: If a unit that has the "Thread of life" buff walks into a trap, it crashes the game instantly. See here for details and save.
  11. Timeless may not actually work: Timeless can show spells persisting beyond their duration but it doesn't apply the actual benefit of those spells. For example it shows Divine armor as active but you aren't getting any resistance from it. Full example here.
  12. Extra Armageddon Scroll: Purchasing the spell in Greenwort with a full spellbook says you don't have room but gives it to you anyway and leaves the only copy of the scroll in the shop.
  13. Fear doesn't always work: Build 6250. We've seen two cases so far where ranged units have attacked units higher level than they are. In both cases there were no equal or lower level units for the feared unit to attack. Slinger shot a dragon and orc catapults shot a soothsayer, both when feared.

Text, Menus and Tooltips
Note: An unofficial mod that clarifies various descriptions and tooltips is available here. It fixes a large number of small errors in descriptions and tooltips which are listed in that thread instead of below. Items in green below refer to this mod, not the unofficial fixes by Bhuric.
  1. Optimization module resistance: Build 6250. The description of the item Optimization Module [droid_card_best] should be changed from "+25% Resistance of Droids"
    to "+25% Magic Resistance to Droids." Source: rbonus=magic,25,0,0,-100,0,0.
  2. Ogre Club description is incomplete: Build 6250. The ogre club should fully read: +4 Attack and +20% Physical Damage to Ogres, Trolls, Orc Chieftains, Jotuns, and Giants.
  3. Viking shield lists wrong upgrade item: Build 6250. The Viking Shield has the wrong item listed in the Upgrade list. It lists Leather Shield as the item it is upgraded from, but it is upgraded from the item Shield. Code fix and explanation here.
  4. Inquisitors do more damage than listed to undead: Build 6250. It appears inquisitors have an undocumented 30% damage bonus to undead.
  5. Berserker damage incorrectly listed: Build 6249. Berserkers do 4-7 + 3-5 damage when attacking, and 3-5 when retaliating. None of these are the 4-5 damage that the game claims they do. Since 3-5 is shown in their shock shield ability, the shown damage should be changed to 4-7.
  6. Arenaline talents disappear in combat: When orc units do not have enough adrenaline to use a talent in combat these talents will disappear from their information screens and from the use ability screens. They should stay active at all times.
  7. Crafting scrolls missing item level: Since artifactor skill limits you to items of level 1-2,1-3, or 1-4 the scrolls should tell you what level items they can make so you know what level of artifactor you need to create it.
  8. A Christa's Gift upgrade has poor description: It simply says "Increase gold" (post-patch). I believe it should say "Increases the amount of gold added to the pile. Cost increases to 14 Rage."
  9. Missing Dialog with Tormund the Fierce: When talking to your father after the initial quests are done, two of the dialog choices simply exit the dialog and don't produce any text. They are: "I want to recruit an army of our finest soldiers!" and "Father tell me about the amulet."
  10. Tooltip for Valkyrie Rest Timers:The 'rest' times on your Valkyrie powers tool tip takes into account the Rage Ready skill, but in reality that only effects your special Viking powers, not Valkyrie ones.
  11. Valkyrie Rage amulet xp bar: Not a bug but an omission. After combat (long version) you can see a meter indicating how much experience this amulet has (so you know when you are close to a level). However, you can't see it except in the after-battle screen, such as from the inventory. Please add the amulet xp bar to the hero screen or another way to access it.
  12. Song of Midgard tooltip clarification: The description says it has a chance to give all your units +1 morale. Then it says "morale will increase by at least 1." The code shows it will impact the first unit with the lowest morale on failure, so it should read instead: "Otherwise, the first troop with the lowest morale will get the bonus."
  13. Wild call is instant and two-way: Wild Call also does not take your turn to use and should say so in the description. Furthermore, the summoned units transfer half of the damage they take to the Orc Hunter (as well as the other way around). The description should clarify it's two-way (assuming this is working as intended). Finally, the damage inflicted due to life link is not recorded in the combat log (but you will see it happen anyway).
  14. Description updates to Awards: Trapper, Favored of the Valkyries, Acolyte of Odin: They are working but need to be clarified. Trapper only works when the stack dies as a result of a trap. Favored of the Valkyries keeps track of the number of out of combat Valkyrie abilities that you use, and Acolyte of Odin only update when you destroy an enemy stack with a spell.
  15. Scroll creation with the crow missing notifications: Using the crow to scribe wanderer scrolls fails to tell you that it costs crystals to scribe scrolls. It also doesn't tell you many battles need to happen before you receive it, though this may be intentional.

Maps
Note: If you are having trouble clicking into an area, try using the arrow keys to walk there.
  1. Egilstadir perpetual quest flag: Build 6250. On Riftlands, king Asvald's castle, Egilstadir, will display indefinitely a quest flag, even though he offers no new quest. Might be related to the pirate ship hero roaming aroung Riftlands, who's apparently not attached to any quest.
  2. Iaccessible or hard to reach map locations: Build 6250. A skeleton right next to Egilstadir on Riftlands, the other in the Verlon Wastelands and a spider's nest right next an Altar of Knowledge that's very close to the merchant Rotten Hake (raider's hangout location or stash as marked on the map). Screenshots here.
  3. Inconsistent player icon in New Kordar: Build 6250. Your icon shows farther away than where it really is. With lots of parallel tunnels you can appear to be in the wrong place.
  4. Thorvald the Penguin has no map icon: Build 6250. Thorvald the Penguin is on a little ice floe, but it doesn't actually appear on the map. Also, his dialog has an error where the words "magic crystals" are still in Russian in the English version.
  5. Unlisted shops on Hades: In Hades, there are 2 "Blood Pentagrams" that don't get a building icon on the map, but they should.
  6. Double Fights from some armies: Some players are experiencing double fights, meaning right after finishing combats they are attacked by the exact same stack and have to do the fight again. They get xp for both of them. Also, it is happening pre- and post-patch. More info here and here. Update: still happening in 6250.
  7. Experience shrines not scaling up: In previous games experience shrines scaled up with your level. They only give you a handful of experience now, especially at higher levels when you need tens of thousands to level.

Graphics and Game Settings
  1. Graphical glitch in Fastland: Build 6250. When arriving there at night the sea in Fastland may display strangely. Happening with GTX 560 Ti with 306.81 drivers (latest stable version). Screenshots here.
  2. Dark or invisible units: Sheep appear blacked out and phantoms are nearly invisible. Happening with a ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT (Mac). Screenshots here. Update: Also happening with Apple version of Radeon HD 5770, more info and screenshot here.
  3. Graphics quality remains low regardless of settings: Some players are reporting that changing text quality doesn't impact the in-game experience, resulting in a game looking much worse than it should. Details and computer specs here.
  4. Oceans Graphical Bug: The opening "movies" show white flashing around the oceans. So far confirmed to happen with Radeon 6950 and Radeon 7900 graphics cards, Nvidia GTX 5950 and ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT (Mac).
  5. Changing Texture Quality can freeze the game: To reproduce load a save, open the options menu and lower the texture quality and then hit apply. Confirmed to happen with ATI HD 5850 (latest drivers).
  6. Graphic for Diversions skill is misleading: Not technically a bug, but the graphic for the Diversions skill (which removes action points) is the same as Fit of Energy (which gives action points). Suggestion: Use stun graphic instead (swirling stars). There is a mod for this here

Achievements & Awards
  1. Valhalla's Messenger not increasing viking damage: Build 6249. This award says it increases the damage of Jarls, Warrior Maidens, Berserkers and Slingers by 10/15/20% but it has no effect.
  2. The Guardian Award doesn't cover all damage types.: The Guardian award tooltip claims that it gives +X% Resistance to all types of damage, but it doesn't apply to both Cold and Astral resistance. Not sure if the description is wrong, or it's not being applied correctly.
  3. Bane of Death achievement crash: If you win the story battle and qualify for this achievement the popup can conflict with the dialog that comes up after the battle. You have to go through the dialog first to get to the popup and it can cause a crash (see here).

Items & Equipment
  1. Game of Bones doesn't activate: Build 6250. The item Game of Bones [dice] does not work when you try to use it. You will get a dialog box, but nothing will happen after that, no matter if you select OK or Cancel.
  2. Amulet of the Dead set invalide: Build 6250. The item Amulet of Death [dead_amulet] is specified as being part of a set that was deleted from this game. The set is "Set of the Dead" [set_deadman] that was in the Armored Princess game, but has been removed from this game. The link to it from this item should also be removed.
  3. Kerus's Sword doesn't give demon bonus: Build 6250. The sword's third ability, "+30% to Attack of the demons in the army of the enemy" does nothing. Discussion about possible effects are here and here.
  4. Avrelii Gauntlet coded as a dress instead of glove: Build 6250. This "gauntlet" is treated as a dress in the game. The code "addon2_gauntlet_avrelii_gauntlet" should be listed as "propbits=gloves,rare."
  5. Shield bash items don't increase damage: Build 6250. Battle, Spiked and Viking shield say they increase damage attacks from shields. However, testing reveals no impact on shield bash damage. More info on the tests and results here.
  6. Several items omit units that should be affected: 1) The spirit griffon summoned by the royal griffon does not get any benefit from gryphon_feather, gryphon_banner, wing_wind, exorcist_necklace, picture_griffin_king. 2) Paladins are unaffected by knightly_boots, knight_armor. 3) Slingers may not be receiving a bonus from telescopic_sight due to a typo in item.txt. 4) Dragon_eye should penalize Emerald Green Dragons but it doesn't. 5) Dragon_armor is not affecting bone dragons
  7. Banner of true faith missing leadership bonus: Build 6250. Banner_true_faith is missing its leadership bonus, now this item is much weaker then ancient_amulet and gladiator_sword.
  8. Valkyrie set always providing troops: Build 6249. Will add level 1-3 troops to your army or reserve whether or not you have units of 1-3 in your army.
  9. Demon set can't be equipped: This item set requires a weapon + regalia + belt + gloves. However, the belt and gloves slot were merged so no class can equip them both at the same time.
  10. Banner of the Horde negates experience gain: Using this item may prevent experience gain from combat. More testing needed. Info here.

Quests and Bosses
  1. Ay Vaz's Masterpiece: Still possible to break in build 6250, despite a fix in Patch 3. Originally, players were reporting the counter does not go up for defeating all three pirate ships, make this quest unable to be completed. A save game where it can be reproduced is here. New information (6250): If you save any time from the point after getting the quest to the point before fighting the last pirate ship, the quest will be bugged if you load that save game. If you get a dialog box telling you that you killed the first, second or last pirate, then it works. If not the quest cannot be completed.
  2. Plundered Stylist: Build 6250. Even though all of the items are collected the quest log may not update to 5/5, for example getting stuck at 4/5. Workaround is to delete the items then use the console to create them again (unconfirmed).
  3. Paper for the Professor: Build 6250. Bought the paper from Rezo but the quest log wasn't updated and it can't be completed. Additional information: "If you save after accepting the quest but before getting the paper and you reload that save, the quest log will NOT be updated when you get the paper and the quest cannot be completed." More details here. A different example of how the quest is messed up is here.
  4. Museum attendant quest reward: Build 6250. This quest has no reward text, though it otherwise appears to be working.
  5. Dragon Tear quest reward: This quest pops up the text "Reward:" and then doesn't say anything. This just needs to be removed as the quest works fine and you don't get a reward on this step.
  6. Stop Guilford - Losing spells in spellbook, high leadership: Some players have reported losing ALL spells in their spellbook after fighting Tanatoris as part of the "Stop Guilford" quest. Savegame and steps to replicate here. Additionally, some players are reporting their leadership scores increasing to impossible heights during the Tanatoris fight, likely related to fighting as another person.
    Delayed Salary: When you talk to Richard and choose the second line dialog (you invite Richard to pay the soldier's salary) it should update the quest. Instead the dialog box closes and the quest does not update, so you're forced to leave it pending or give the soldier 500 gold yourself.
  7. Coastal Brotherhood: Freeing all the prisoners may not update this quest, leaving it incomplete.
  8. Talking Bear: At a certain point in the quest it seems like you are able to interact with the tower to turn it in, but nothing happens when you do. The quest will resolve after you make more progress, but it might be a good idea to create some "come back later" dialog as several players have reported this as a bug.

Units & Unit Abilities
  1. Assassin murder ability hangs up game: Build 6250. When AI uses Assassins and succeed with the "Murder" skill, the AI sits and does nothing despite having an extra free turn. Also happens in build 6246 so the bug may have been there for a while.
  2. True Believer should account for Persuasion: Build 6250. The paladin ability "True Believer" gives +3 morale with an undead in the army to offset the -3 penalty. However, if you have the Persuasion skill (which reduces the morale penalty) you still get a +3 bonus. This can lead to situations where you actually have positive (rather than neutral) morale with a paladin+undead+persuasion.
  3. Bone dragon eat corpse affecting all enemies: Build 6250. When a bone dragon eats a corpse, it makes every unit on the field "timid" (lowers initiative by 1). The description says it makes any monster < level 4 go into "fear" for 2 rounds.
  4. Friendly fire does excessive damage on critical hits: When your units are hit by friendly fire (for example by Red dragon flame trail) and there is a critical hit, they take more damage than expected. For example, a red dragon flame trail hits a friendly black dragon for 22 damage normally, but for over 900 damage on a critical hit. Is it ignoring resistances and/or hero attributes?
  5. Powder Keg problems: Kill priority on exploding barrels is so high that enemy units cannot wait to hit them and kill themselves. Is this intentional? Update: Build 6249. Powder Kegs have 0/1 hp and explode instantly upon starting combat or appearing in combat.
  6. Ogre adrenaline issues: +1 speed for adrenaline level 3 does not work when combined with the artifact Ogre Sandle, both of which should give +1 speed. Adrenaline level 1 ability to damage the unit behind the target doesn't appear to work.
  7. Goblin Commander ability works on inquisitors: This ability says it will give another action to a selected goblin unit so they can move once again in the same round (similiar to paladin skill). However, it works on human inquisitors
  8. Witch Hunters mind immunity doesn't work: Despite having mind immunity listed Witch Hunters are still succeptible to mind spells.
  9. Royal Griffon summon problem: If an AI Royal Griffon has no space to summon a Celestial Guard stack, it will still try a few times before doing something else. Each time it tries, you'll get an error message "There is no valid target for that spell."
  10. Swordsman's Prudence has residual Caution: The Swordsman ability Prudence says that it gains extra defense after losing a certain amount of health. However, the tooltip calls it "Caution" which was the old ability it had to dodge attacks at low health. The caution effect is still happening.
  11. Skalds also dodging due to Caution: The Skald's Caution ability says they gain extra defense after losing a certain amount of health. This time, the tooltip is correct, but just like above they are dodging attacks when they have low health (which is not stated as part of the ability in the description but happening anyway).
  12. Goblin Shaman Threads of Life issues: First, you cannot dispel it. Second, it affects enemy troops, life linking one of htem to one of yours (so when the enemy gets hit, so do you).
  13. Dwarven statue battle obstacle can kill itself: If an enemy is too close to the statue when it casts ice snake it can kill itself via this spell. This was not happening in previous Titles.
  14. Highterant eggs in occupied cells: Summoned highterrants (from Permafrost egg) are laying eggs in cells containing enemy units and the eggs become invisible and move to a non-occupied location. See details here. Furthermore, if you control the highterrant and try to lay the egg yourself, you may see an error about nearby enemies that is contradictory (see here).

Modding
  1. Awards are hard capped to level 3: Could this cap be extended (to at least 5) or removed so there is more room for modding?

When I start a new game and the camera pans over the starting area the ocean flashes white several times.

I have a Radeon 6950, i5-2500k, Intel Z68 mobo and 16GB ram.

This post contains all fixed bugs from various patches.

Hero Skills
  1. Sense Weakness activation chance (Patch 5): Per the code, Sense Weakness has a 1% lower chance of activating than stated in the description. Bug or working as intended but needs a description update? Also you increased the rune cost and didn’t put it in the patch notes.
  2. Artifactor can create higher level items (Patch 5): Rank 1 lets you craft a student belt, which is a level 3 item, even though it says you can only craft items of level 1-2 with one rank in the skill. Might be a problem with other items. Additionally, no recipes indicate what levels the items you create will be. Update: Crafting reworked in Patch 5.
  3. Song of Svartalfaheim gives too much initiative (Patch 3): Instead of giving you +1 initiative it's giving you closer to +10 making all of your units go first.
  4. Onslaught always affects first Orc unit (Patch 3): It should randomly distribute the adrenaline points but instead it's always giving them to the first Orc unit in your army.
  5. Destruction isn't activating (Patch 2): This ability should add crit chance to spells but no one has confirmed an actual critical on any of their spells. Modders were also unsuccessful activating a crit after upping the chance to 80%.
  6. Diplomacy not disbanding with excess leadership (Patch 2): The mind skill diplomacy is supposed to disband joining units when you don't have enough leadership to support them. Instead it adds them to your armies causing them to berserk.
  7. Shield of Rage inverse effect (Patch 2): If the skill says your units have a 15% chance to shrug off debuffs, that actually means (100-15) an 85% chance to cure it. This effectively makes lower levels of the skill better. We suspect a backwards inequality sign in the code.
  8. Upgrades to Edda have no effect (Patch 2): After Patch 1 the upgrades to the Edda skill have no effect. It appears the name was switched incorrectly in the code.
  9. Song of Alfheim targets all units equally (Patch 1): The description for Song of Alfheim says allies get random buffs and enemies get random debuffs. However allies and enemies are subject to either kind. Update - Patch 1 updated the description because it's WAI. You can get a mod for it in the bugfixes, though.
  10. Sense Weakness bug appears to prevent enemy critical hits (Patch 1): A look at the sense weakness code (link to thread) reveals an error where sense weakness is effectively preventing enemies from inflicting critical hits - but only if you don't have any ranks in the skill. When they would normally inflict a crit you instead see a "sense weakness" mention in the combat log and the crit is averted. Some players are also reporting they never been hit with a crit.

Olaf and Valkyrie Rage Abilities
  1. Valkryie taking over rune management (Patch 5): Is it an incomplete feature or does it just need an explanation about what is happening? Nothing seems to happen.
  2. Mista's Lightning lost turn (Patch 4). If an enemy moved before you used this ability, your current unit would lose its turn, and the lightning wouldn't activate for that round.
  3. Rage abilities can't crit (Patch 2): Various skills imply rage skills should be able to crit, however it currently cannot. Code suggests the base probability is: 3 x (current rage)/(maximum rage) or ~3%.
  4. No Valkyrie Rage skills used in autocombat (Patch 1): We are not seeing Valkyrie's use rage skills in autocombat. Is this intentional?
  5. Hilda's Lv2 Leadership bonus bug (Patch 1): The third valkyrie (hilda) does not grant a leadership bonus at lvl 2 if not senior. Workaround - either make her senior or wait until you have enough items to promote her to level 3 as this does not trigger the bug.
  6. Regina not giving attack bonus (Patch 1): Regina the Stone (4th Valkyrie) should give an attack bonus to level 5 troops but their attack score is not being modified.

Spells
  1. Poison Cloud can hang up the game (Patch 4): Build 6250. Some players are reporting that the Poison Cloud spell can hang up the game when the first poison effect would take place. Instead of activating it becomes an hourglass. Doesn't always happen but affected players report it happening very frequently. Update: An old verson of the mod "mod_wn131_interface.kfs" installed will cause this hang up. Remove it to solve the issue.
  2. Greasy Mist issues (Patch 4): Casting greasy mist on top of itself lowers the enemy resistance again. If this is working as intended, please update the description to indicate the spell has stacking effects. Also, as of Build 6249 players are reporting the greasy mist animation to take a very long time to complete.
  3. Resurrecting sheep units can cause hang up (Patch 4): Resurrecting sheep transformed by a goblin's tower can make the game hang up. The next turn, the game hangs up when a unit attacks another unit. More info here.
  4. Avenging Angel damage reduction (Patch 4): Build 6249. Units under the effect of Avenging Angel may only take 1 point of damage when struck, regardless of how much damage they should have taken. Update: Also believed to occur as well when "Favored of the Gods" activates due to its similarity to avenging angel. Update 2: If enemies use this spell (such as enemy skalds) attacking them with a spell causes the remaining uses of avenging angel to lock in place (i.e., they don't lower when they are attacked). You are forced to dispel it or wait it out. -->Unofficial Fix!
  5. Hypnotize exploit (Patch 4): If you hypnotize a stack of griffons and then split the griffons using their ability, half of the split stack will remain under your control after the spell wears off. After combat, the number of griffons you kept randomly adds to another stack in your army.
  6. Blizzard only freezes target hex (Patch 4): Blizzard can only freeze the target hex and not other hexes affected by the spell, despite the fact it can cause the effect anywhere in the area of effect. Update: Rather than freezing targets as intended, it concentrates every rolled freeze into one target who receives an extended freeze, with total duration the sum of each individual one. This can be upwards of 10 turns. Screenshot here.
  7. Book of Evil Super Stats (Patch 4): For 15 mana (or for free, if you use a scroll) the beginner Book of Evil is showing stats like these: Atk 136 (20)/ Def 115 (15) /Damage 120-298 / Health 1188. Why are its stats modified so much? Is that intentional? It's as strong as a dragon.
  8. Pygmy reduces to 1 HP (Fixed Path 4): Build 6249. Pygmy reduces the health of enemy stacks to 1 HP per unit instead of -20%/-30%/-40% of their max health. -->Unofficial fix!
  9. Chaos Dragon persists beyond duration (Patch 3): Build 6249 fixed. Though this wanderer spell states duration 2 turns it has been lasting for battle after battle.
  10. Gift uses incorrect runes (Patch 3): Used the L3 version on a soothsayer and it says that it should use a Luck Rune in the description. However the combat log states that it used a Defence Rune.
  11. Spells can't crit (Patch 2): Various skills imply spells should be able to crit, however it currently does not. Code suggests the base probability is: 3 x (current mana)/(maximum mana) or ~3%.
  12. Last Hero is Inconsistent (Patch 1 & 2): When the duration expires this spell will sometimes show troop loss but not actually reduce the number of troops appropriately. It also sometimes inflicts damage at the end of its duration even when its unit hasn't been hurt.
  13. Calm Rage permanently reducing rage (Patch 2): Several players have reported having their maximum rage greatly reduced after combat. Suspected cause is Calm Rage spell. More here.
  14. Power of Light Lv3 Targeting (Patch 2): The description says it affects all units at level 3 but this is not happening. Either the description or effect is wrong. Screenshot here.
  15. Power of the Night Lv3 Targeting(Patch 2): Power of the night level 3 is should affect all troops but is only affecting one. It is otherwise indistinguishable from level 2 except for the mana cost (25 up from 10).
  16. Heat Focus causing crash with sound effect: Heat focus is causing a crash for some players when the sound effect plays. More information here and a manual fix here.
  17. Level 3 slow not immobilizing (Patch 1): Slow lvl 3 says it immobilizes enemies with less speed than the spell power - so a stack with 2 or less in speed gets immobilized. It doesn't work though. In Patch 1 the description says it instead increases the duration.

Text, Menus and Tooltips
  1. Resurrection tooltips not giving counts (Patch 4): Build 6249. For some players, resurrecting armies via Call of Valhalla and Sacrifice no longer gives you a count of how many units will be revived. This makes choosing Sacrifice level 1, 2, or 3 difficult since it won't tell you the number you get back.
  2. Spell area of effect indicator updates incorrectly (Patch 4): When casing an area of effect spell, if you hover over a unit in the area it may add hexes to the spell area. Believed to happen when the unit's movement is greater than the spell's area, thus making it appear to affect a larger space. Suspected to need health bars enabled to cause the bug.
  3. Inventory does not scroll when maximized (Patch 4): Build 6249. When the inventory is maximized on the hero screen you cannot use the arrows to scroll it. Workaround: Click inside your inventory and use the mouse wheel. More analysis here.
  4. Incorrect Tooltip Values (Patch 4): Rune Chain spell (when enhanced with a units runes) reports higher damage than you get. Inquisitors and units with similar "extra damage to type X" abilities don't report boosted damage in the tooltip.
  5. Werewolf Skin needs a quest tag (Patch 4): This item becomes a quest item for the quest Luxury Outfit, and it cannot be destroyed normally. Should have a quest tag. It also creates an item (courtly garb) that does not upgrade correctly if you don't have patch 3 (build 6249).
  6. Gudrila's quest dialog has spoilers (Patch 3): If you access her personal quest early enough then her quest dialog will tell you about future events. More detail here. As of Patch 3 she will not offer her quest until you get to Greenwort.
  7. Your inventory stops scrolling when you sell (Patch 3): At some point your inventory will stop scrolling left and right when you're trying to sell in a castle. Destroying and cleaning out more spaces doesn't fix it. I don't think it started happening to me until I began to fill the last row.
  8. Jarl's fear ability has bugged text in the combat log (Patch 2): It will display "??tag??" instead of the unit that was hit by the skill.
  9. Orc Hunter's Net bugged tooltip (Patch 2): When a unit has been struck by the Orc Hunters net it doesn't tell you what it does, instead saying "[hunter_net_name] NF" in the title and [hunter_net_small] NF in the description.
  10. Hilda's Arrows upgrade has poor description (Patch 2): Hilda's Arrows upgrade simply says Energy: 7/7. It should say "Charges left when the arrows destroy an enemy army are increased in power."
  11. Crafting dialog is confusing (Patch 2): You see two options upon using a recipe. The first one is "the object has been created" and the second one is "add the magic recipe." If the text matched what they do they would read "Create the item according to the recipe." and "Put the magic recipe away." There is also an X in the corner of the box that doesn't work; you can only close it by selecting option 2. The recipe is also reusable... it would be nice if they could be stored in the spellbook.
  12. Warrior Maiden abilities (Patch 2): Call of Valhalla - The description says it works on anything dead in the last two rounds. It is actually much more particular - see an analysis here. Gift of Odin tooltip should mention leadership must be higher than the target stack's leadership to prevent a counterattack.
  13. Training ability controls, not summons (Patch 2): The druid/orc hunter ability Training says it summons animals for 2 rounds, but it actually takes control of an animal army instead. Needs a description update.
  14. Regina's Messenger golem has no name (Patch 1) This valkyrie rage ability spawns a lava golem that does not have a name, instead it has a tag that says [cpn_lava_golem5] NF.
  15. Donate dialog persists (Patch 1): When donating a piece of gear the dialog box to donate can persist. Clicking yes to donate it again after you've already done it crashes the game.
  16. Crash in Gudrila's dialog (Patch 1): Selecting the third option while conversing with Gudrila the Fierce (Valkyrie) can cause a crash.
  17. Divine hand tooltip backwards (Patch 1) - This Soothsayer Description says that they increase their attack when allied troops receive a critical hit. However it activates when allied troops inflict a critical hit. Fix description.
  18. Icy Rage Only Works on Olaf's Rage skills (Patch 1) - Assuming this is working as intended, the tooltip needs to clarify this skill only modifies Olaf's rage abilities (e.g., Vortex, Lord of the North).
  19. Transmute description omission (Patch 1): This skill has never granted mana when a spell it used to make the kill. Assuming this is an intended, the description should add ", unless the final blow is made with a spell."

Maps
  1. House of Jotun confusion (WAI): On the first map there is a House of Jotun only accessible via flying. This is confusing players who find a shrine instead. Consider adding a sign or text event to cue people in to return later. Update - It's somewhat of a "secret" and is working as intended.
  2. Secret passage in Verlon wasteland catacombs blocked (Patch 1): Various players have reported it is very difficult to get into the secret passage. You have to spam click and get lucky to make it inside.
  3. Orc Unit in Front of Dead Man's Chest is Blocked (Patch 1): On Eastern Island this unit is difficult to interact with. You can get him to attack you if you a s close as possible click like crazy but otherwise he is nearly unattackable (and if he runs away, you're out of luck).

Graphics and Game Settings
  1. A yellow "placeholder" ball appears in Arlania (Patch 4): Build 6249. A yellow ball that appears to be a placeholder for another graphical effect appears on the Arlania map. See screenshot here.
  2. Ice Dragon death animation crash (Patch 2): In Verlon Wasteland at the Dragon Castle, finishing the battle by killing the ice dragon crashes the game. Appears to be a problem with the death animation. See thread here for mod to remove death animation.
  3. Disable Intro Videos not working (Patch 1): For some players, checking or unchecking 'show introductory videos' seems to make no difference; the videos always play when booting up the game.

Achievements & Awards
  1. Valhalla's Messenger Award doesn't update (Patch 2): The text says to kill 10 units using Vikings, but neither killing troops with Vikings in your army nor killing enemy Viking troops will update the number. Update - it appears a stack must be destroyed by the actual unit called a Viking. Is this intentional? Update 2 - After patch 1, this has reported to update with any viking unit.
  2. Greedy Achievement doesn’t update (Patch 1 & 3): Even though the Fat Cat award clearly shows gold going up (and obviously we are collecting gold) the Achievement "Greedy" still shows 0 gold collected.
  3. Crystal Collector Award stops progress (WAI): If you spend crystals on spells it stops counting until you find enough to get above the previous number. Update: Working as intended, but should say "Maximum crystals held."

Items & Equipment
  1. Chain of chance error message (Patch 5): Rarely using this item results in the message "Fatal Luck! A chain of accidents cursed the enemy force: [cpsn_] NF." Everything after the colon is in red text. This is not that common but does happen from time to time.
  2. Young mask (Mask of Youth) has no effect (Patch 5): Build 6250. Young_mask doesnt work because bonus is in the wrong place: pbonus=health,0,0,7,-100,0,0 should be pbonus=health,0,7,0,-100,0,0.
  3. Crafting cost inconsistent and/or excessive (Patch 5): Build 6250. Crafting cost appears to increase as your gold increases and does not always match the listed price. It may also be bugged when you have over 4 million gold, costing several millions instead of the listed price. More information here. Update - Crafting reworked in Patch 5.
  4. Dragon Hunter's shield reducing most damage (Patch 4): Build 6249. The item 'Dragons Hunter's Shield' says '-20% damage from enemy dragons', but it reduces damage from all types of damage, except fire. More here.
  5. Courtly Garb can't be upgraded (Patch 3): When you select the Upgrade option from the right-click-menu the fight does not start. Nothing happens.
  6. Ray of Light unequips itself (Patch 2): Ray of Light, the upgraded version of Silver Rapier, is sometimes unequipped after battle or when another item loses enough morale to go out of control.
  7. No description on pre-order armor (Patch 1): Celestial Armor has no description when you click for more info, unlike every other item I've seen so far. It just repeats the name of the item.
  8. Block of honey degrades in your bag (Patch 1): Whether it is equipped or not the block of honey still degrades after combat, regardless of whether you used vikings or bears, too.
  9. Shamanic Doll use hangs up game (Patch 1): Has a use option when you right click it but opens up empty dialogue screen which can't be closed. The game hangs up and you have to force quit the game.
  10. Shield of Rekross + Ice Dragon crash (Patch 1): When this item randomly produces an ice dragon to unlock, using the shield to release the dragon causes a crash. Screenshot here.

Quests and Bosses
  1. Black Label (Patch 4): If you let Ben Gorefiend go instead of killing him, the quest becomes stuck. You can tell Torfin that you let Ben go but nothing happens afterwards.
  2. Help the Vikings of Vestlig (Patch 4): The last turn in with Taor has dialog where you can accept an amulet or not. If you don't accept it, apparently you get runes and gold (and no amulet) but the text suggest you should also get the amulet (and says nothing about the runes). Recommended to review this dialog and outcomes.
  3. Dragon Informant (Patch 4): Build 6249. This quest will take a dragon and not update the quest if you immediately choose "Hey, I have a talking dragon." More here.
  4. Self-Recording Appartus (Patch 4): Quest gives you the rune reward twice (making it 8 of each rune instead of 4 of each rune). Once when you bring the press to the inventor, and then again when you bring the apparatus to the professor.
  5. Giant Spider poison/retaliation issues (Patch 3): The spider's "poison spit" is unaffected by poison resistance (example: Royal Snakes are not taking less damage). The spider also retaliates against units specifically with no retaliation abilities, like Royal Snakes. Is this intentional? Update: In build 6429 (Patch 3) the damage type was changed to magic. Retaliation was unchanged so assumed to be working as intended.
  6. Fly the Banner (Patch 3): Although you kill the orc in the citadel you may have no option to raise the flag and you cannot finish the quest. If this happens, it also breaks the quest A Star is Born, as the previous step leads to an update for this quest as well.
  7. Luckless Hunter (Patch 3): Killing the Black Unicorn may not give credit. Reloaded several times to test it out but it never gave credit.
  8. Dead Men Can't Be Pirates (Patch 2): It's likely you will defeat Sirius the Pale on Eastern Island well before you meet the orc who tells you to talk to Sirius. If this is the case you won't be able to complete the quest.
  9. Missing Cabin Boy (Patch 1): If the enemy you are supposed to defeat runs from you (the wolf) and you let him go, the quest will not update as completed.
  10. The Wanders of Odis Or can hang up the game (Patch 1): The quest giver asks you to find her husband. Once you find him and talk to her again she asks about him, and you answer. Then she sends you to go talk to him again. At this point if you talk to her before talking to her husband an error pops up with "No Text" and you have to force quit the game.
  11. Coastal Brotherhood (Patch 1): Freeing all the prisoners may not update this quest, leaving it incomplete.

Units & Unit Abilities
  1. Troll's Pacify has not weakening target (Patch 5): This ability should cause the target's initiative to drop 1 and do minimum damage but this does not occur. Update: In patch 3 (build 6249) the ability was tweaked to do more damage but it still does not lower the initiative and cause the target to do minimum damage.
  2. Skalds causing "This ability has no target!" popup (Patch 4): Occasionally a Skald will begin its turn and cause a "This ability has no target!" popup. Once you acknowledge it you can go on with the game. Maybe it happens when it tries to curse a unit of level 1-3 (with Evil Taunts) but there are none to target. Update - this popup and several others are corrected an in unofficial fix.
  3. Engineers always inflict burning (Patch 4): Build 6249. Engineers always burn when it should only happen 15% of the time (confirmed to a p-value of <10^-16, anyway). Update description or ability mechanics.
  4. Battle obstacles have 0 HP (Patch 4): Build 6249. Battle obstacles such as holy statues, demon crosses, kegs, coffins, etc. all show 0/1 hp. They are also untargetable by spells or rage abilities so you have to kill them in melee combat... is this intentional?
  5. Demon's "Ardent" ability not working (Patch 4): Build 6249. Whenever a demon kills a stack, a rage charger is supposed to appear that can heal all demons on the battlefield when you take it. The charger does not appear. If the demon takes a charge from Hilda's arrows, it will heal demons normally, so it seems the healing part is working OK, not the appearance part.
  6. Rune mage ranged penalty (Patch 3): The Runic Staff ability says "Can strike at any distance" but it still shows a ranged penalty on the rune mages. They also cannot use their ability "runic word" on themselves as of Patch 2. The cursor shows it as legal but when you click on them to use it nothing happens. You have to select another unit to use the ability. Update: Runi word fixed in Patch 3, build 6249. Patch 4 changed the description of Runic Staff to include a ranged penalty and reinstated it (even though it was moved from patch 3).
  7. Necromancer Hidden Mind Immunity (Patch 3): Necromancers are immune to magic shackles. However, no other undead are immune to it. The code reveals an additional, hidden mind immunity that we believe is creating this effect. What is going on?
  8. Royal Griffon morale bonus not applying (Patch 2): Knights, Paladins and Rune Mages aren't receiving this morale bonus from "Regal." Does it only apply to level 1-3 units? If so the description needs an update, if not then it's a bug. Update - Description updated by patch 2 to clarify it only works on1-3 human units.
  9. Soothsayer Ice Storm only freezes center (Patch 2): Players are reporting that while they have seen the center hex become frozen they have never seen it freeze enemies outside of this hex. Shouldn't it be able to freeze any of the targets?
  10. Archmage's Magic Shield doesn't reduce damage (Patch 2): A test reveals that the mages take the same damage whether magic shield is active or not. Additionally, it seems to be causing the unit you cast it on to do 50% less damage.
  11. Rabies cures Rabies (Patch 2): Multiple "Rabid" conditions remove the condition instead of extending the duration or reapplying it. For example a rabid bear is retaliated by a wolf that inflicts rabid again, but instead it clears rabies on the bear. Rage caused by Loki's touch can also be undone this way.
  12. Skald's Paean and Last Hero Crash (Patch 2): When the Skald uses Paean and gets Last Hero it can cause a crash if the Last Hero unit is attacked
  13. Greedy ability not granting morale (Patch 2): Despite killing a unit in battle the Jotun does not appear to gain a morale bonus. Assume it's the same for other units with this ability.
  14. Training renders user unable to attack (Patch 2): The druid and orc hunter have an ability called Training. It actually controls (hypnotizes) animals instead of summoning (needs tooltip update), and if the controlled unit survives the wielder (Orc Hunter confirmed, druid assumed) can't make any more attacks. You only see a ? cursor when you hover over a hostile enemy.
  15. Witch Hunters Magical Help not Random (Patch 1): Instead of receiving a random buff, Witch Hunters always get "dragon slayer."
  16. Rune Mage is too fast and phantoms too strong (Patch 1): The rune mage has 20 initiative which may have been left over from testing. What is the intended value? Also its phantom ability is the same strength regardless of the number of units. Should this be a scaling value?
  17. Ice Dragons don't recharge Creator (Patch 1 & 2): The combat log says Ice Dragon is recovering a charge of its Creator summon ability when it kills a unit but this doesn't actually happen.
  18. Alchemist and Engineer only mix one refill (Patch 1): The description on mixing refills say you get 1 to 2 potions, but the code reveals this only happens if you have the alchemist's toolkit item. We think it should always have a 10% chance and be further increased when you have the artifact.

Modding
  1. Nonworking LUA functions: None of these LUA functions appear to do anything: Game.MessageBox(...), Game.InvokeMsgBox(...), Game.Log(...) and Game.atom_getpar(...). Could they be fixed? Update: Developers answered these queries in this post.

I've noticed two bugs:

Witch Hunters, when you use their 'Magical Help' ability to get a random buff, the buff is ALWAYS dragon slayer. Considering you rarely fight dragons, especially in the beginning of the game, this makes the skill less than useful.

Diplomacy is supposed to make the enemy creatures desert if you don't have enough leadership for them. Instead, it recruits them anyway, making you go over the leadership limit, and thereby causing one of your stacks to go berserk. This makes the skill a DETRIMENT to your character, and is a major flaw.

Game hard locks without fail whenever I try to change the terrain texture quality forcing an alt-f4.

To reproduce simply load up a save and then open up the options menu and lower the texture quality and then hit apply. Keep raising or lowering the quality and hitting apply and it will then freeze. Most times I had to hit apply after changing quality was twice until it froze.

Also, I see ZERO difference between low textures and high textures. Something is wrong here... textures look very blurry even with at 16x filtering and high terrain textures. =/

RE diplomacy, is that how the test says it's supposed to work? Because it if it was, then you'd only be able to use it when you're armies were less than full (and I don't know about you, I'm always "full" if possible). Seems to me if it's working as intended then what you're supposed to do is visit a garrison before the next combat so you can save the extra troops. I suppose they could at least go into open/eligible reinforcement slots. Anyway, not sure if this is a bug vs. working as intended. Perhaps add to the suggestions thread?

The skill specifically says if you don't have the leadership to recruit a unit, it will make them desert instead. Currently, it only does this if you don't have a SLOT for the unit. If you have that type of unit in your army, but it is full, it will add to the full stack and give you an 'underled' stack.

Diplomacy is still useful for convincing some portion of the enemy to desert, even if the 'join' function doesn't work properly. The main issue is that your guy will recruit to a stack that's already full, and then you will immediately go into the battle with a stack that is no longer under your control. This is especially vicious if you choose to have one of your barbarians rage, because they will immediately charge your own (no longer led) group and attack it. I can't imagine this was intended, and if it is, they need to redesign the skill to not screw you over when it's used.

I wouldn't mind so much if this was a skill you could skip, but half of the green skill tree requires putting at least one point in this skill.

Call of Valhalla does not work correctly, it at most only will heal the most recent losses of the target unit, not all losses suffered in the past 2 rounds

Okay, I've added it. I just started playing with that skill and so far the one time I used it it worked as intended. I'll keep an eye on it.

Edit - I think I've figured out what is happening. If I unit goes before the maiden does on the second turn it counts as them having taken their second turn and they can't be rezzed anymore. So raging berskers are extra fast and for me that means they beat the maiden in initiative the next round and miss their chance to get rezzed.

The Greed/Greedy ability for Jotun doesn't seem to work. Multiple times I've got the kill with the Jotun, and I've never got the Morale bonus.

Apart from the gamebreaking diplomacy bug (getting your units uncontrollable) I also encounterd a bug with Crystal Collector medal:

For some reason, crystals collected stopped counting at 53/60 mark (happened around the second island). Since then, I collected tons of crystals on the map, some from the battle chest and also from items destruction, but no more are counted.

Some of the Awards are not working as described. These would probably just be tooltip updates.

For example, the 'Troops Trapped' award ONLY goes up if the unit DIES from the trap. This might be working as intended, but if so the tooltip has to be updated.

The Valkarie Abilities Used is either not working or needs to be more descriptive. I've used the Valk in battle a number of times, but it appears this tally only goes up when you use their out-of-combat ability. (For example, I have 1/10 because I used the first valk's ability to give me money after unit deaths once.) If this is the way it's supposed to work, a less vague tooltip would be appreciated.

The medals "Favorite of the Valkyries" and "Valhalla's Messenger". The first one says I have used 0/10 valkyrie abilities when I have in fact used Christa's Gold several times. The second one gives me a 3/10 for "Enemy troops destroyed by Vikings" when I have been using nothing but Vikings the whole time.

I've discovered some annoying bugs aswell.

After defeating an opponent I recieve practicly no exp at all, it simply says " [] NF " or something like that instead of the amount of exp that I should gain after the battle.

There was only 4x thorn thingies on the island for the alchemist quest, and after completing the some more islands, i've yet to find any more of them.

Whenever i sacrifice/give/donate or whatever to a valkyrie nothing happens, and if i try again the game crashes.

When using the orc hunters ability to control an enemy animal, if that creature is still alive when it ends I've not been able to attack it in melee and had to use my ranged units to kill it.

And then there is the random crashes that happens now and then.

Also (and this may be driver related or something) my game crashes whenever I try to sacrifice a weapon to the appropriate Valkyrie. I think this game is great, and many of the bugs mentioned before can be bypassed, but the ones concerning Valkyries are too important, as are the battle abilities.

As has been mentioned, that ability isn't about using the Rage abilities in combat, it's about using their out-of-combat abilities. It goes up properly when you use them. The wording could probably be improved tho'.

Regarding the problem with not enough Thorn Sprouts, can somebody tell me the name of that quest so I can post something they can look up?

Also, has anybody actually verified what causes the "Troops killed by vikings" counter to increment? Clearly it's not killing troops with Vikings, and destroying stacks of enemy vikings doesn't seem to be doing it either. Could it be killing a viking hero or an amry that has a viking unit leading the stack on the world map?

After playing a bit more I got few more things to report:

I got into the battle with some neutrals and since they also had some griffins with them, the diplomacy bug kicked in and my griffins spent their fight flying like idiots all over battlefield until they got hit by 2K stack of fireflies (that sure woke them up).

After the battle finished, I noticed that my maximum rage dropped from 112 to 78 for no reason. I tried to switch my senior valkyrie a bit and also tried shuffling my equipment to help the game remember, but the maximum rage stayed low. I replayed the neutral battle with some griffins in the reserve and rage did not get nerfed. Conclusion: Better not even start any battles with diplomacy bug, the bug might do more than just make your battle harder.

Second one:

Valkyrie map abilities (refund for fallen warriors in the next battle etc.) seem to take longer to recharge with every use, but the game kind of forces you to use spam the abilities asap to get the Favorite of Valkyries medal. The problem is that the bonus for the medal seems to be worded such that it reduces the time for the map ability, not the battle ability. It seems a bit pointless to spam the ability 10 times, getting its recharge time from 10 battles to 20 battles, to get a modal lowering the recharge from 20 battles to 19 battles. Just putting it out there, I need to do some more testing on this.

I just made an account to start posting about the dozens of bugs I've encountered in my first 2 hours of play. If you don't have anything useful to add it's way better to just stfu thx.

Basically the game needs patching before it can be played as it should. There are multiple skill descriptions that are wrong, dialogue problems, skill issues, and hard crashes.

I'm a huge fan but I must wait for the patch to be able to fully enjoy the game.

Thanks. That first one is documented - units go berserk when you have more than you can normally get with leadership, and diplomacy isn't deserting them like it should be (it adds them you instead, making them crazy). On the second, once you've figured out a good way for me to list the bug I'm happy to do so. Or if it's not a bug but rather a suggestion I made a thread for those here.

Not sure why this is the only KB game without a tech sub forum or why the dev/mods seem to be MIA. Maybe they are taking a break after launch, sometimes they need breaks after long pre-launch hours. :)

Christa's gift makes the game stop progressing if you have it at range 2+ and the first mob that gets attracted to the gift is blocked by another mob. Basically the AI doesn't know what action to do with that mob so it gives the hourglass indefinetely.
Menu is still working so the game is still properly running though. Isn't an crash.

In my case it were 2 zombies blocking the route to the gift.

Was it when you were fighting something with a nonstandard counterattack, like berserkers? They don't seem to follow the normal counterattack rules. Also, sometimes the tooltip will indicate a counterattack when it doesn't actually happen.

What the heck is with Eric? I mean, when I battle them, the game randomly crashes whenever I do some specific things, like casting snowstorm with my Soothsayers or attacking his bears, but I cannot foretell what will happen... I need to be a Soothsayer myself to be able to predict what will crash the game and what won't! This is seriously annoying.

Also, No-loss game is damn impossible if they put an enemy hero 5 levels higher then you on the first island who has to be fought to progress, and your only means of resurrection are Soothsayers. Seriously, he has 100 mana and casts Phantom blade or Poison cloud every turn.

Another bug.... apparently, the "homeopathy" thing works with the rabid state, huh? I used Loki's Rage to make some ancient bears Rabid, they attacked some wolves who retalieted and caused the bears to be Rabid again - I got the message "Ancient Bears overcame their fit of Rage" twice in the text bar, and the state "Rabid" got removed, despite the condition lasting 2 turns.

Lol, I don't even know how to report that one. Multiple "Rabid" conditions remove the condition instead of extending the duration? Is that what's going on?

Has anyone gotten a spell or rage crit yet? I have Icy Rage and Destruction skills maxxed. I was quite perplexed as to why I haven't scored a single critical with any non-unit ability. I even modded the skills.txt file to bump up the % crit to rediculous level (80%), and I still haven't gotten a single crit.

Game crash on Vesling Isle during this battle, just after you leave Nordling isle and begin to explore Vestling.

For me, the crash appen when calling rage against enemy at 1°st turn.

The game quit to desktop without any message and no log info.

I hope not. But where they all in the same area or something? If this keeps happening it sounds like a bug to me. I think chests are supposed to be something like this - - Gold (76%)/Random scroll (15%)/Crystals (5%)/random rune (3%)/1 wanderers' scroll (1%)/random item (1%)

On Vestling Island, just meet Christa The Stunning at the sone circle, i try to donate her a Demon Tongue (obtained via artifact creation) and the game quit to desktop.

Apparently it's because the dialog box remain after the item disappear, and if you click "donate" twice the game crash.

It is continuing to happen, nearly every time there is nothing there. When I say nearly every time I mean I can only remember one having anything in it in the last 6 or 7 attempts.

I am playing at a Skaald class, level 7, I used Rage ability every turn as much as possible yet I have never learned a new Rage skill besides the one you start with that hits all enemies in a circle. This does not seem to correct to me. I do not think I am gaining any experience for my Rage abilities.

You are.

Your rage ability will unlock after you meet the first Walkyrie on the second island (there is a stone circle, is part of the main quest).
After get the Walkyrie on your hero panel, the first battle will give you access to the "gold" ability, and after victory you can choose several ability, oone after another.

After that, you need a patch to fix the "crash in battle" problem :(

Oops, I missed an important detail. You said tree trunk chests - I thought you meant chests you dug up. Those are simply very low chance to provide anything, same with skeletons and urns. I would guess it's 20% or lower but I don't really know... I have found lots and lots of empty ones. Not a bug imo, just annoying.

So... anyone got any idea on how I could proceed past Eric? I have to fight this battle to leave the island, but whatever I do, it crashes sooner or later. Should I start a new character? But what is the guarantee it won't crash at the same battle again?

Another bug I found (seriously, in Crossworlds the russian version was this buggy, by the time we got our version, it was so much better) - I keep getting text messages about my Vikings now avoiding critical hits due to Sense Weakness - but, being a Soothsayer, I never even have that skill! Only happens with Vikings.

+1. It happens to mee too. It is either a bug, or a hidden skill for some units. Should be investigated.

I'd like to add that Beholder is treated as Mage unit. Beholder has no spells so it shouldn't. (He gets more damage from the Magic arrow spell)

I currently have one rank in the skill Transmute. (Mana on unit stack deaths)

If I destroy an enemy unit with a spell, I do not gain the mana from its death.

Haven't tried it with multiple ranks on the skill yet.

This is the description of the Icy Rage skill.

Critical hit of Rage skills: [param1]. Chance of freezeing a troop for [param2] rounds with probability [param3].

I assumed that "Critical hit of Rage skills" meant that rage skills can now deal critical damage. The alternative being increasing crit damage of rage skills makes no sense. [param1] was originally maxxed at 9% (I think). I bumped it up to 60%, which should give me more than one crit per two targets (assuming damage is calculated separately for each target in a multi-target rage skill). However, I've had 0 crits total, before and after I've changed the value. [param2] and [param3] works as indicated (and when modified).

So yeah, translation is a bit splotchy (Favorite of the Gods is another one). Skill might also be borked.

Yes the leadership of the warrior maiden must be above the target. The tooltip don't mention it.

I think that is correct - I remember some spells/abilities affecting Mages being valid for Beholders too in Crossworlds.

Btw, quick question - a bug that I once fixed but could never replicate the process for some reason, in Crossworlds. The morale-raising ability of Royal Griffins did not affect Rune Mages for some reason. Pissed me off as I was using an all-human+Griffins army. Was that ever fixed for WotN?

The Goblin Shaman ability "Threads of Life" doesn't seem to target properly. The Shaman cast the spell on a unit (the ability basically reflects some of the damage a unit is dealt back on the attacker), but when I attacked a different unit (without the spell), I got damage reflected back on me.

Yes, already tryed to load a quicksave and a standard save; the whole save pack must be corrupted or the bug is persistent in this setting scenario.

BUG:

Spell "Last Hero" causes a crash when the unit is attacked. Commonly used by the skald (viking).


Workaround: DONT use skalds in your army and dont use the LAST HERO spell.
And kill enemy SKALDs fast.

the -dev thing did the trick, it used to crash at the fight with Eric (so it was a non avoidable fight), happened 7 times, but after adding -dev and starting as admin no more crashes. Will keep fighting and checking if any more occur.

Beholders and their kin evil (from red sands for CW mod - medium/gorgon/mystic/sinister/Asmodeo beholder familiar) are all range units but dont get any of range unit bonuses from quick draw skill or items for range units like bows, or crit% or from precision spells. On other hand they have all some active abilities similar to spells - hypnotize/evlin from corpses/summon snakes... so they are in some kind magic using units, and therefore should get some bonuses from magic skill tree. Just my thought.

Modding skills take 3 steps :
1) setting parameters of skill in sessions/addon/ses.kfs/skills.txt ,
2) setting those parameters to match with their pair in sessions/addon/loc_ses.kfs/eng_skill.lng
3) checking skill mechanics in sessions/addon/ses.kfs/skills.lua
I try to find this skill description in skills.lua and cant find it, so it maybe missed by devs. Didi you ever get some enemy unit frozen for 2 rounds by viking troops ? If YES then only rage skills crit% is broken, if NO then whole skills doesnt work :-(

Go to game folder/sessions/addon/ses.kfs find morale.txt and in unit2unit/griffin2 add knight,paladin and rune mage, they all are missed.
I just installed game and on to checking millions of files before starting to play, and this moral thing miss is only star of journey :-)

Awesome, thanks for that tip. Never knew about this option... I used -dev in KB-TL to give myself a few Ancient Vampires when my game (using undead army) had none to recruit at all...

I tried that countless times in Crossworlds, and for some reason, once it worked, but then never again. Maybe I need to set some other variable somewhere else... maybe the problem is that Rune Mages are Level 5? It works fine for Paladin and Knight.

Crashed to time in a row, then fought and won (just before victory window to appear) against Rusty Hook (pirate in the ship) in Island of Istereng.
I do get occasionally crashes, but reloading helps it.

Added the Soothsayer and Sense Weakness skill. I think they make beholder a mage because of the sleep spell on its eye beam so I'm not sure it's a bug.

Good tip. I just did this, and for newbies to modding like me I'll add that I used winrar to open up the .kfs file and that runemage is one word when you add it to that line.

Here's one I did'nt see mentioned:

The tooltip for the Rune Chain spell reports an incorrect damage value when enhanced with a units runes.
I click the spell, then a unit with enough runes to get the most out of the spell, then highlight an enemy and the tooltip says it will deal 610 damage, but when cast it only deals 462 damage. (I've cast it on many unit types and its not a resistance thing).

Also, the tooltip will report a higher damage value if the unit has more runes available. Casting it off my Soothsayer will say 759 damage, and this can be further increased by giving him more runes with Runic Word spell, the damge inflicted will still be 462 though.

Edit: One more I just found. The item 'Block of Honey' degrades even when not equipped.

Another bug:
Steam cloud sync works great for syncing individual saves TO the cloud.

Unfortunately, you can't get saves FROM the cloud.

I installed the game on a desktop, made all sorts of saves, clicked button to sync TO the cloud, all well and good.
Then I installed on laptop, started game, NO saves were avail. There's NO button to pull saves out of cloud.

Cloud free space (the 100 megs) properly shows that MB been used for the saves in both desktop and laptop.

I've restarted steam and game many times to see if it needed restart.

Tooltip damage for units like the Inquisitor, which do extra damage to Undead/Demons, don't accurately reflect that extra damage. You end up doing considerably more damage than it indicates.

I couldn't find arctic_rage (Icy Rage's name in skills.txt) in skills.lua file either. However, there is a reference to that name in arena.lua (where mechanics for damage in battle, rage recovery, etc. are stored). It seems that there are formulas to calculate krit (crit) multiplier based on the skill, but I'm not sure if they're actually being applied to calculated damage (sdmg).

I edited both skills.txt as well as eng_skill.lng, and the variables match. The freeze effect works fine, though, both duration and chance. Seems only the crit part of the equation is missing.

I'd like to advise you to not change the files in ses.kfs and loc_ses.kfs directly. Instead, extract the file to your mods folder and change it there, loose files loads after zipped files and will override the original's effects. Thanks for the advice. RE the Icy Rage skill, are you saying it's not bugged or are you saying it is but you were able to fix it? If it's fixable, directions on how to fix it would be great.

Are you sure the tooltip is wrong instead of being correct but the spell itself is working? That is, does the spell do the same damage whether you sacrifice runes or not? Also added block of honey. Btw, does it degrade after every battle no matter what, or only when you have vikings/bears in your army?

Taor the rebel on the second island is supposed to give you an amulet when you help him but you won't get it if you don't accept it on the first dialog option.

There are alot of translation error that need to be corrected because it's really hard to enjoy the storyline with such poor dialog.

And yeah, I noticed that in the Valkryie conversation too. We almost need another thread for cosmetic translation issues... I don't want to distract them from game-altering bugs that need fixed but I agree it would be better if the translation were polished!

Icy Rage is lacking an entry in skills.lua, so I wouldn't even know where to begin concerning fixing it. Its inner workings are written somewhere, though, because both the freeze effect and the duration works.

Also, Shield of Rage and Berserker are also missing in skills.lua, and uh... they're acting a bit wonky. I'll let you know after a bit more tinkering.

I did some testing with this quest due to the poorly worded dialog and found if you refuse the amulet he gives you some gold, 250xp and one of each rune. Far better than the amulet in my opinion.

its the first valkyrie that i acquired in fastland. its icon is like low resolution portrait. and yes every time i click 3rd option game crashes

The Guardian award tooltip claims that it gives +X% Resistance to all types of damage, but it doesn't apply to both Cold and Astral resistance. Not sure if the description is wrong, or it's not being applied correctly.

and im not sure if its a bug or not. i cant advance in game after meeting first valkyrie. people say you must talk with her or enter the cave below her and kill big spider in it. but nothing happens either talking with her or entering cave. there isnt anything in the cave but people say there is a big spider. maybe it can be a bug for me and some other people or i couldnt find the right solution. anyway. thanks for adding conversation bug

I don't think thats a bug. You should of met the first valkyrie(Christa) on the second island, Vestlig. The second valkyrie joins you on Fastland, and only when you have the first 2 valkyries will the third valkrie join.

Its definately the tooltip, after a little more testing I found it is reporting the damage value as if all of a units runes are used.

example: The spell base damage is 165 and increased by 45% for each rune, up to a maximum of 4 (this is at level 2 Rune magic).

165+(74.25*4)= 462 as i mentioned in last post. This is how much damage the spell should and does inflict.

but the tooltip reports 610 damage 165+(74.25*6) which would be using all 6 of my units runes.

As for my Block of Honey, I tried dismissing all my viking units(I don't use bears) and using some pirates and neutrals and it still degraded while unequipped.

y'know this is'nt really a bug its another case of poorly written descriptions. The collector award tracks the total number of crystals you carry at one time. If you spend some on spells it stops counting until you find enough to get above the previous number.

Doesn't work for me.

Added the -dev line after .exe" but when the crash appens, the game go to desktop and no error message is shown.


What version do you have?

I think, it was not mentioned so far, that you cannot scroll your items in castles. When I wanted to sell some eggs in Fastland, the arrows are greyed out, so you have to put them in your inventory in the top left spot to sell them.

Ice Dragon - Killing a unit does not give a charge for the ability "call minion".
