The new Oleg Maddoxs
I would like to say that Luthier is doing a very good job with the "hands tied at the moment" from the bean counters.
This game will have a very profound effect in the next 18 months. What Oleg did with IL2 Sturmovik IS EXACTLY what Luthier and the Maddox's team are doing with IL2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover. So yes its going to be a hard wait for a lot of you, waiting. patiently is the key.. Luthier will definitely "MAKE A NAME FOR HIMSELF WITH THIS NEW FLIGHT SIM EXPERIENCE." |
Very cool. I look forward to it!

Agree. He still has my support. Looking forward to the patch and the sequel.

They are so far off, it's not worth comparing them. Apples and oranges. I have never seen such a long period of running around in circles, with little to nothing to show for, in the entire il2 history.:( |
"Time will tell" is the only thing we can say for sure...

I think it took 6 years to get at the level of what it is today. |

Clod doesn't seem to have quite that gap above the others now and it's still not working enough. |

I will add this from a longtime lurker. I have Been around since the Start had a couple of accounts over the years, set up a new one when I built this rig as I couldn't remember the login details
I think that CLOD will get better, but, I also think that it was in a very poor state when released. As Mastiff said, when IL2 was first released it took quite a while to get better, However I don't think it was anywhere near as bad as CLOD to start with ;) I will await the next patch and will buy the sequel as I think there is so much potential in this game/sim that is yet to be realized. ~S~ |
Well I think Luthier has already made a name for himself.

Unfortunately this mess CoD&Sequel has became, from my humble POV, will soon show it is the consequence of quite bad commercial and management decisions made in the close and not so close past, by the Maddox, Ubi and 1C sequential teams. This is time to harvest. Time will tell, that's just what I am afraid of. Engadin. |

And if you have to admit it yourself that Luthier "didn´t make the game himself" why would you accuse him with anything? I have to admit that I don´t know much about the develomenthistory, but to me it seems like Luthier was left behind with a big mess to clean up. And BoM will tell if he did a good job or not. I won´t judge Luthier for something he can not fully be held responsible for... |

In every organisation there`s a perceived leader/CEO call it what you like and usually their elevated position means that when the crap hits the fan they have to take it on the chin. Mr Shevchenko is the perceived leader therefore he will be the one taking the flak, same in all businesses if the job turns into a croc the gaffer gets it in the neck.
I hope they do fix the game and if they do it will be via the next edition, I`ll buy it as I support all the flight sims by buying them, however this dev office needs to take a serious look at it`s PR because as has been stated repeatedly it sucks big time. As an aside if you bothered to read Tree`s objective posts more objectively you might find out he usually says it as it is whether you like that or not depends on your standpoint.lol. |
I suspect luthier only got the position simply because he was there. Not because he's a talented project leader. Looking at his past projects I've found him to be largely concerned with gimmicks and prone to leaving things unfinished. I think he would be better off in a support role and a trained professional should take his place.

Guys just because you disagree with someones viewpoint doesnt give you the right to be abusive. If this continues the thread will be deleted.

Didn't you get booted for using one of those names? ;) While I don'y quite share the same optomism as you Mastiff, I do hope Luthier and crew can be as successful with CoD/BoM as IL2/FB/1946 was. I bought IL2 in Dec of 2002 and I had nary an issue with the fundamental playability of IL2. I can't say the same with CoD - no matter how much effort was poured into the creation. Oh yes, there are some fantastic inprovement and I know they are light years ahead of what IL2 offered, but there are to many issues marring the surface to really appreciate the good things of CoD. I'll once again give the benefit of doubt to the development team. The publishers and financial backers seem confident enough in the project to continue it...... BUT I will look at the development updates with a more critical eye. Being from the west, I imagine the eastern market will receive first dibs on BoM and their opinions will weigh in my decision. Yet, I'll still hope for the best - a sim on par AND even better than IL2. Time will tell. |
