Sad what's happening to IL-2
I hope that when Battle Of Moscow comes out that we'll get some more activity with CLOD. Over in the hyperlobby things are pretty grim as far as IL-2 goes. In my opinion the problem is that there are too many factions or groups that want to fly one of three versions. The one that is flown the most 4.11.1 is very bland and boring, it's like flying IL-2 right out of the box. The best version if you ask me is the ultra pack 3rc4 witch simply put is .....fantastic. How come people are flying the boring version?
|
Then there is HSFX who most likely feels like you do towards the 4.11.1. IL2 is still and will remain a sim marvel. Because despite all it's short comings the orginal dev team created something that the IL2 community has taken and ran with.
My thanks to ALL who took part in this and to ALL the modders, thanks. |
wondering what is boring with the actual default version?! ......

I don't consider CLOD to be "IL-2". CLOD is CLOD. An experiment gone bust. I do love UP3RC4 and is my current preference. It is built on top of 4.10.1. So work that Team Diadalos did is in there as well as the original 46' game. But then you also get a lot more planes, maps, mds...etc. I haven't flown HSFX. I had it on my machine once long time ago and at the time, it didn't seem like the differences were all that much from UP. But MDS/RRR on mission based dogfight server really brought a lot to the game imo. As I understand it, HSFX on top of 4.11.1 doesn't have that. So, I would think the bomber and ground attack game isn't going to be as much fun. Navigation, not as much fun either. Carriers just sitting idle at the same location, not as much fun. Beacons, who needs em if the targets don't move. Many other features that make good game play, lost. But I suppose if your prime concern is certain flight model over others, then HSFX would be your choice, I guess. I suspect I'll be finding out more about it soon. So, don't get bent if you think I'm bashing HSFX. I'm not. I'm just kinda pissed UP is now in "stasis"...whatever that means.

Sad yes, but it happened a long time ago. Oleg made a comment about it, but I can't remember his words to quote it. |

The tracking stats only work correctly in MDS mode under UP. I fly HSFX or stock v4.11.1 everything works as it should do in these versions in coop mode. Also............... It's the main reason I don't fly CoD, there's no CooP mode. . |

With 4.12 that will bring us flyable B-24D, AI (soon to be flyable afterwards) Wellington and Bristol Beaufort, whats not to like?? Not to mention TD is adding stuff to the old gal that Oleg for years said they were not possible. I am staying away from CloD until a couple years more. Not worth the hassle at this point and God-knows-when wait for every new patch. |

T}{OR, where did you hear about a Beaufort?
Oops, never mind. Found it!!! :) |

Sadly without some form of "official" endorsement of particular mod packs (something that will never happen) there was always going to be a split community once modding was possible.

With IL2 you can have different installs. Vanilla, Dark Blue World, HSFX, etc. etc. |
So right lolitexas. I use DBW with all the mods - aircraft, maps, sound, you name it. Great new campaigns and single missions coming out all the time. Have you tried the JU-88G night fighter missions? Then there's 4.11.1 for online, or any other installation you prefer. CloD has nothing for offliners and still lots of moans about it from onliners. The graphics are better for sure, but there's really no contest IMHO. Have fun.

Yes you're right. I've just discovered HSFX and am glad I did. I'm hoping Spits VS 109s will switch over to it from the ultra pack then there should be more activity in that arena, my favorite. |

up3rc4 is crt=2 compliant. hsfx, apparently, is not.
|
Good news from WOP.
http://www.warbirdsofprey.org/index....;topicseen#new I can keep my UP3 installation too! |

I use it to keep out stock users as it screws up low level bombing in the net code causing instantaneous explosion of bombs and destruction of the bomber, v4.11.1 clients can join a HSFX coop and vice versa without crt HSFX Expert Mode uses a different version completely so no need for crt=2 . |
ok thanks. I passed it on to wop admin.

Hello Gents, IL2 is not dead, there is some appetizer for those who may have doubts, from Aces Over Europe HSFX6 DF Server. AoE Promo Video Shots are taken directly from the server, no animals were hurt during the process. :) Caution! Movie contains violence and blood!:cool: |
1946 = Yawn, dead and buried!

I still get much more enjoyment out of flying HSFX6 (the only version of il2 I fly, UP3 isn't even close to HSFX6 imo) than Clod personally, and online its very much not dead and buried, the numbers don't lie..... |

Also how many theatres does HSFX6 cover ? Amazing amount of maps and aircraft keep me away from a channel dogfight with eye candy unfortunately. Each to thier own I suppose :) |

Id love to see a comparison of people flying these sims. Heck people are still buying IL2 just to run HSFX, SAS Modact and Histomod (UP seems to have died, thanks MDS...) after 10+ years. Bet there aren't that many people buying CoD. Regardless as an offliner I'm happy as a pig in shi* since the release of the latest modact for 4.11 Usually these proceed a DBW release! Yipee! But I think they should wait for 4.12 for the new DBW. Regardless TD has made a fantastic, stable base for the wizards at HSFX, SAS and Histo to work with. Cant say the same for stillborn CoD. |

Agree...hard to leave the work load of Clod, you know less challenging and all that. |
Vanilla for me.
I just play unmodded and always have. There are too many views of what is 'right' when it comes to visuals and everything else. I saw some modded smoke-trails once that were horrendous, and people were getting very exited about them. I only play offline. Probably partly because of the fact that the online community is split. I play Il2 most days at the moment. It's still my first choice. |

109 you open your oil rad 50%, normal rad 60 ish, and off you go you can then forget about it. 109 is only vaguely interesting to fly if you fly a E1 or E3 so you at least have to play with prop pitch. Red planes rad 50, prop back to about 80%, and control your water temp from then on in with boost. Which is exactly what i do in 4.11 anyway The CEM is no more difficult in CLOD than 4.11 and 4.11 mod packs imo, only difference is you get a bit of text telling you you've damaged so and so rather than no message, yawn........ + in il2 you don't have disappearing contacts and have proper aa, so you don't feel you playing a game from the 90's. truthfully, the only thing i prefer about CLOD is the cockpits and the sky/horizon, otherwise, its very disappointing, especially the CEM, which no more follows plane handbooks than il2. tis nice for screenshots though. |

Fly a bomber, its more interesting re CEM.
|
Interesting, or accurate, or even both?
Besides, i'm a fighter jock at heart, prefer to escort you masochists in bombers, (actually prefer free hunts way way up, as far away from flack as possible......). I did in fairness miss out one other thing that i prefer in CLOD to il2, and thats the feeling of weight and inertia in the fm's. That i like a lot indeed. |
Fly to London in a Heinkel on weather reconaissance, turn an engine off to simulate failure/damage, fly home fighting it all the way.
Works for me, and feels more real than il2 '46 (to me anyway) I suppose it depends what you are looking for. I flew il2 '46 a LOT more than I have flown CoD. Not flown it for quite a while though, for some reason I went off it when TD got involved. HSFX looks interesting though. |
I'm flying 46 more than C.o.D. at the moment, that is the HSFX6 version and or DBW. HSFX is being kept up to date where the other isn't, plus there is an auto up dater with HSFX. For those that haven't tried HSFX give it a try there aren't any easy kills anymore.

You ain't seen nothing yet. Wait until this whatever it is they are supposedly working on comes out and lets see how more fractured it has become. hehe
