Any news or mail being delivered this beautiful Friday morning?
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...8-23_00008.jpg
Updates ? News of Staff work from the Eastern Front ?Screenies? Movies of new added features? Finally what was the big surprise promised by Oleg ( I think...) so long ago...and don't say it was his departure? Honestly I am really enjoying this sim now with a compatible graphics card ,even with the (still) non-working features & I have seen a lot less poison email chatter over time( maybe they've just given up or like me gotten a rig that works..) but it would be nice to us & great for your PR to delegate some minor amount of time to keep us in the loop ,officially ,even if it is only on the scale of what the folks do over at Rise of Flight,They seem genuinely concerned with what the people who fly it are concerned about & looking forward to new updates & planes. CloD & hopefully BoM stand a chance of being the best flight sim ever so why not do more to keep us in the loop& out of the spin ( so to speak..) |
There was a thread opened "Community and Work with the Community" Questions were asked, but mainly went unanswered because Blacksix says it's not his field of work... Lots of I don't knows were given as an answer to questions, so there's no breaking news over there. I am just going to wait for steam to update this game from now and look at some other games I have. I do hope it all works out in the future but to be honest I'm not that bothered either way now.
|
My my, those dorniers look tasty. Here's hoping that they will be ripped wide open for the sequel to fly

Are they still allowing people into the War Thunder beta? I may aswell give it ago since nothing much is happening around here at the momment. Anyone know how to get a key? Maybe Robtek can give me his if he's not using it? I presume he's tested that game to comment on it? Can you send me your key by messaging me Robtek, lets not let it go to waste now. But in the mean time can anyone tell me how to get a key just incase Robtek likes the game really and wants to hold onto his? Feel free to message me with the info. Thankyou!!

War Thunder is a nice game, it is really fun, but having to wait a few minutes to get into a map, which only has arcade settings in historical missions is boring, and then there are all those people with money instead brains which are financing this pay to win game. So if you dont spend money you are always the underdog, it's even worse in this aspect than WoT.

WarThunder is alright, I've been in the beta for a bit. It plays like the current IL2 1946 servers in hyperlobby when you queue for arcade mode.
The historic/simulation modes are a little more in-depth, but not much. More entertaining than the arcade mode, though. Simulation mode actually has you starting on the runway and taking off, stalls/spins, specific planes for a mission/era. The graphics are pretty decent, I'd say its more stylized than realistic, but they nail their point home with the art direction...there's a hazy vignette effect on the outside of the screen to simulate that you're looking through a camera of the era (in color) during 3rd person views, which is kinda cool. The canopy's glass reflection/scratch effects look great when you're looking through them with TrackIR, very well done. FM's are still being worked on, but you can tell the difference between the different aircraft and their strengths/weaknesses are very obvious and compliment each other. I received 2 beta invites yesterday for the multiple accounts I registered, so that totals 3 that I have now, hah. |

So do any of you good fellows want to message me a link because I have no idea how to get a key to play the game? How do I get a beta invite because I'd like to have a look at it?

War thunder is exactly... nothing but a front-end for birds of prey... basically... world of tanks + birds of prey = war thunder

Ordered Saitek X65f to play CloD with. Arrived a couple of weeks ago and I've tested it once. Game is just too much of an immersion killer for me to care any more.

Anyway, my comment isn't to add fuel to the fire of how horrid the game is or something. The game is what it is. I'm merely pointing out that I've got this brilliant new piece of kit, bought for the sole purpose of playing Clod and I'm ok with it just sitting there gathering dust. I'd rather be enjoying the heck out of it and Clod, but somehow now, it's more like, the patch speeds up a few frames here or there... meh... |
since you guys mentioned "war thunder" and a few have flown the game some.I have the beta but i cannot get my trackir 3 with #4 software to work with the game.I see where it ask's me if i have it and click yes but i cannot get it to recognise my trackir. any help would be appreciated.
PS.we could use some CloD servers in Hyperlobby .Also would be nice to be able to trouble shoot my game without doing it through forums, get some coops going, exchange game settings..most important, Recruiting to build numbers in the community.are there any mods going around yet that improve the game play?im sure the modding community could work their magic in Dover.last i heard there was some kind of africa mod.anything else?? getting back to WT i could use some help with the trackir problem. If anyone could help i would be thankful. |

Rumour has it that there will be a big patch released today, which contains:
-Fixed FMs for every plane which is in need to correction - FMs should get pretty close to the original values now -Repaired cloud/tree/building spawn behaviour Objects popping up from nowhere should be a thing of the past now. And: Added collision model for trees(!). -Fully working Radio traffic ftom ground station(s) and plane-to-plane, finally! -Vastly improved netcode; people should be able to put in objects on the map at their pleasure, without too much performance issues. Also, the SDK is "right around the corner", as they say. - better plane/object(s) texture performance; People should be able to choose a texture size other than "original size" without getting the blurry textures as of now. ...chhrrr..phhh...cccchhh Hey! what's.. oh man, why did I wake up right now? Just another 10 minutes.. *sigh*. Well, whatever, it was fun while it lasted ;-) |
Weren't there members on this forum berating others, saying that Clod was going to be fully fixed, with all the bells and whistles. We just needed to be patient and not cry babies. Where are they now?
|
we are here and we are waiting and not whining :)

The last Beta patch cut whining by about 70% on this forum and has brought some civility and purposeful discussions. To me that says that it couldn't have been all bad. The next patch will bring new improvements. I don't need to believe in a golded 'Patch' that will make the game perfect. It just won't happen. Small steps forward is all that's needed. |

I went over to the Russian COD website... and through the google translator, there was not much info about any patches coming up... just the usual people jabbering about nonsense.. joking around, witha sprinkle about general improvements wanted..
so,, the misleading jabbering about upcoming patches just gets people excited for nothing... IMHO |
Hate to burst your bubble and bring you down. But there will be no patch today. Still a good 2 weeks to a month away.
Maybe :) |

A friend told me about the smilie face on the windshield a while back.
Apparently if you fly through a cloud and the windshield frosts up the face will appear. It might only be on a particular plane. Just another 1c Easter egg. |
that smiley face has an Adolf mustache... must be the prked Brit models.. it's laughing at..
|
rather looks like a galland moustache.

So far only in Stuka...

an other easter eggs is on the br20.
if you are on the radio position. if the plane climb you can see a bottle of grappa (italian alcohol) roll in your foot from the bottom of the desk :) |

I just really hope that the developers don't become disillusioned and frustrated and give up on it. Like the original, this platform has the potential to be the next "gold standard" in CFS's. |
time will aid this game . . .
they will slowly hammer out bugs and stuff . .. and as pc hardware develops, this will help because the beast of a machine required for this game . . . will become affordable as the brother of the beast (octacore or sexdecuple 16) becomes the new powerhouse . . . stable engine then the theaters will arrive. best sellers will be late european / pacific and korea then once the engine is stable, come the SDK everyone wants. Then there will be lots of crazy mods, but then a SDK of great quality will happen. forget about this game being the gold standard for prop combat sims, i'ts too late because Rise of Flight took the title (according to the forums). And silver. |
They are not going to give up on it...they have already given up on it. Blacksix has said this expressly, and it has been heavily trailed. It's name is writ in water...which is a good or bad thing, depending on your POV.
There are the formalities of the patch, a bit of goodwill laundry to attend to, and then all attentions elsewhere. Not if, but when. I dont see that there's any hand-wringing to be done about this. It has been obvious, and known, for a long time. The questions isn't about retrospectively merged installs or anything like that, but A) Whether the tools are in place for the user community to do anything with it, B) Whether the community wants to run with it, and C) Whether any such tools are up to the job or have to be hacked together from scratch. And then D) Whether there are enough people who care to play what is put together in future (apart from the die-hards, that is). Expecting the developers to allocate any real resources to this game now= picking a spot on the wall and banging your head against it. It could also be argued that putting it out of it's misery is the kindest thing that could be done to it in the cirumstances. It has been the most-waited-for resurrection since...well...some bloke on a cross. It may continue, but not as we know it Jim. Falcon4 is a good example of what happens when the community takes over and runs with something. Ben |
Falstaff, yes your right they have stopped adding content but they are fixing issues, yes I am disappointed that features are missing but features can come with the next addon as long as the game is running well and the FM's are good I am happy.
Apart from the reds fm the game is running quite well so may I suggest that you either keep on taking those antidepressants or unbunch your panties... |

oh don't get me wrong it's not perfect by any stretch of the imigination but multiplayer is far more polished than the single player side of the sim.
Luckily I don't care much for single player but if I did I would be playing rof, they finially for around to working on that last year and it is very good. |
Its the lack of an esay Coop feature thats killing the game along with the netcode, I cant wait to have this fixed. On Atag the most popular server you only have a stock skin which IMHO kills any immersion that the game offers. A proper dedicated server is what this game needs with an easy Coop system so we can get some online wars up and running. To ignore these features is frankly very dissappointing and very short sighted.
|
I agree with skins but we both know sooner or later that someone will turn up with a red baron spitfire/109 ;) and immersion will drop to rock bottom. In terms of skins what is required is a similar system to what ROF uses. A official user voted historic skin pack that you can download and install and so anyone who also has the skin pack can see your skin.

There definitely still are alot of problems. I doubt the devs have forgotten them, and are just working thru the priorities. The stability and performance being by far the most important issue at the moment for the majority of users with average systems. "IF" the business plan hasn't changed, most features, and issues will be addressed thru patches and/or theater addons. Hopefully a successful official patch will lead to a announcement of their future plans that will include the continuation of the series.
|
Will they still fix the flying though trees thing?
|
Quote:
|
Well letz hope it will at least get fixxed in BoM ... which still needs to be announced. I dont think features like that will be added to CoD anymore besides it needs to be tested public before it will make its way to Bom.
I fear Clod has become the Dev´s Sandbox for BoM. |
Well...when the "Communication and work with the Community" thread is locked....it makes folks wonder?
|
Quote:
Everything will be fixed before BOM comes out. Just because Devs answer questions, in ambiguity, worse than any politician, doesn't mean anything. |
Quote:
It means continual support and development of COD up until the release of BOM It also means that there is significant similarity between the two products. To me that points towards the old IL2 model of merged installs for the products. All good. Quote:

That's the best thing that could happen to COD. The development desperately needs another pay day to stay in business, so they have diverted their resources to the Sequel's development. The Sequel currently has the same problems as COD, if they fix the Sequel, then these fixes should be applied to COD at some point, either with patches or thru a merge with the Sequel. Your right, there is a possibility where we could see more fixes or features before the release of the Sequel, if they use COD to test these fixes and features. |
Yeah...I suggest you guys don't get your expectations all built up.
There may not be an update, usually by now BS would have posted something. I'm not writing this from any priviledged information. I have no idea. I am just suggesting not to go orbital if there is no update. I will sure be glad when I can post my "Happy patch day video". LOL |

Gents I wouldnt get your hopes up too high with some of these expectations.
Its likely that no new features will be added to COD and anything we get to improve our experience, other than FM tweaks and bugs being ironed out, will have to wait until the sequel. Hopefully, however the sequel merges or uses the BOB assets from COD, we will get most of what we want in the new game if we are lucky. There seems to be an urgency now to finish the next retail patch and move full steam ahead on the sequel to release it and make some more funding for the franchise so development can continue. Who knows what we might get if the publisher and parent 1C decide to push out another unfinished product. Its possible that could happen... but hopefully with the graphics bugs now pretty much ironed out they can focus all the energy on making the sequel everything we expected from COD and hopefully even more! It certainly sounds like its going to be a bit of a departure from what we are used to seeing with the franchise or they would have said it will be the same already. |

The sequel needs to launch and be successful first in any case, or all bets are off! |
I don't know if you guys were around when the IL2 Forgotten Battles was released.
Prior to the release of that first sequel to IL2 we had a myriad of issues. I wouldn't remember them, but I do recall there was a great deal of negative sentiment on Ubisoft forums. LOL Regardless, the sequel turned the tide. We never looked back at the original IL2 1.0 version. One thing that the devs did, which really cinched it well. They released all the content from the original version of IL2 1.o version within the Forgotten Battles. The purchasers of Forgotten Battles did not have to go back and buy the IL2 Sturmovik 1.0 version. I know this well, because like many at the time there were some of us who financially felt we needed to support the IL2. Many of us bought extra copies of IL2 at retail prices to support it. I still have those boxes of IL2. LOL Then the sequel released and those old IL2 1.0 versions were selling for the price of peanuts/worthless. Anyway, the sequel is a way for the "CURRENT" dev of our favorite sim game to make some money and give us what we want at the same time. It may not be a best way to do things, but it is probably the expedient way for COD to continue in business and provide us what we want as well. So... no it shouldn't be that way, and we can all make our choices. I choose COD. The way my wife spends money this is something I get to do for me. I'll be ahead. |
Precisely there is NOTHING like il2 on the market so until someone comes along and makes something better MG will be getting my money.
P.s. I brought a collectors edition of cod and also brought my brother a copy on steam :) |
http://bobgamehub.blogspot.dk/p/clif...er-review.html
"In my original review I wrote "Like a good wine, Cliffs of Dover can be played now, and it should get better with age." A year later, I can no longer say that, because so little has been done to improve the game's performance faults, and nothing has been done to add or fix the lack of gameplay content or AI for single player enthusiasts. Rather, I would now say, you will get your money's worth if you buy it on special (which it frequently is) at a bargain price between 5USD or 10USD. See if it works for you, on your PC. And if it does, you will then have the money to spend on the Desastersoft campaign download, which adds the game which the developers left out." |

And this is the way 1C has said the plan on doing it with CoD.. It work well for IL-2 so I don't see any reason why they would change thier way of doing thing.. Long story short You would be hard pressed to find anyone still playing the orginal 1.0 version of IL-2, and if they are and thus refuse to buy 1946, well that says more about them than it does 1C IMHO |

It appears the performance/stability patch has been relatively successful, as the poll suggests that 95% of those in the poll rarely have a CTD. If thats true, the development should be able to move forward, and concentrate mainly on the game play issues. This is good news as the development would have definitely shut down if it was not successful.
Personally I've never experienced a CTD, but the sim still isn't good enough to keep my interest up. Gameplay issues are now the most critical aspect, and most of these issues must be addressed before the release of the Sequel, or again the development will not survive. |
Quote:
The poll was problematic as its choices were skewed. I had to vote all the time when it was not really accurate because rarely was even less accurate. Some may have had CTD's 50% of the time and voted rarely because all the time and never were less appropriate. But it appears 40% are still getting crashes. But yes if the stability is truly fixed for most then things could get better. |
