Catalyst 12.8 WHQL
S!
As title said, those drivers are up :) Go grab while hot! Links at Rage3D or Guru3D and AMD :) For XP, Vista, W7 and W8. Both 32- and 64-bit! |
And I just installed 12.6 last night after building my new system ...

S!
No issues with IL-2:CoD at least. Seem to work fine and smooth. |
Thanks for the update
|
Well I installed 12.8 ... getting a lot of CTD with games - Metro2033, DCS World, Company Of Heroes and CLoD, hell even firefox is going hay-wire with black screens and the text while trying to write this post is screwy.
Going to go back to 12.6Beta |
S!
Codex..strange you have CTDs. I have none so far. I recall the 12.4 were best and some beta before 12.7 were quite bugged. Quite happy with these new ones with CAP 3 intsalled. |
Argh ... Reason why I was getting CTD ... forgot to install the chipset drivers.
I can't believe I made such noob mistake  |
Hey Guys
I still have a pre-CCC driver installed and today I dare to try to install Catalyst Control Center. Can I count on your help? I predict I will need it:) Any Tips to properly uninstall the old driver? Thanks in advance! |
S!
Just use control panel and uninstall old drivers. Reboot and install new ones. Some install on top of old ones without trouble. |
Hey
Thanks! I just uninstall the old drivers, also using programms like Driver Cleaner etc. After that i rebooted, and it looked like the old driver weren´t there anymore (low resolution). Then Windows informed me that it installed a driver for a standard VGA-Video-Card. I uninstalled this again and rebooted, but it installed this driver automatically again. So I decided to ignore it and installed the 12.8 ATI-Driver which worked out fine. But: The Driver-Version in my Hardware-Manager is 8.982.0.0. Catalyst Control Center seems to be installed but i can´t start it. All i get is the load-sign beside the mouse-pointer and nothing happens. Besides that, I have an old Issue i used to ignore but that I wanted to fix with the new driver: I have a Screen that is big enough to support 1920x1080 but it only uses 1776x1000. The rest is just a black frame, nothing gets displayed at all. If i switch to 1920x1080, I get this resolution on the 1776x1000-space, so the screen looks blurry... Any ideas at all? Thank you very much! |
S!
Will check some things back home and report back. You could try re-install without uninstall and choose Repair. But checking in a bit later :-) |
Thank you a lot!
Something I found meanwhile: If i look at all the Programms installed in the System-Control-planel, I can only find the AMD Catalyst Install Manager. CCC is nowhere but in the menu that appears if you right-click on the desktop.... AND: Just discovered that I don´t use a Driver for my Screen, just the normal PnP-Windows-thing. I found a driver-File in the internet but as it is not a .exe-file I have no idea how to install it....? |
Quote:
By the way. What`s your CCC settings for CLOD with the latest patch? |
S!
The Catalyst install manager controls installation of drivers and related components. They are not displayed individually on the list. |
Quote:
CCC doesn´t run at all on my PC! Do you use a driver for your screen? |
Quote:
No I did not install any monitor drivers :) |
Quote:
I remember that this morning, when I started the whole thing there were other AMD-Components in this list... But they might have been pre-CCC programms... |
Update from the front:
After all, I could solve the problem with the black frame with the help of the AMD Vision Control Center, which is now properly running... But still I have no CCC on my PC at all.... ? |
S!
Continu0, the CCC is for non-AMD platforms and as you have AMD CPU and GPU it is called Vision. So same thing :) All is good. |
Download your 12.8 driver here for your o/s. http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...downloads.aspx
and the 12.7 CAP 3 Which has settings set by ATI for some games that improve performance even on none xfire systems these work automaticaly as you load the game such as ROF. Forget trying to Instal/uninstal driver through control center. Once downloaded run the 12-8_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc exe file and select uninstal and then custom.Select all the from the list with the exeption of the chipset driver or the ahci driver .Run and restart ,when the system boots press F8 and run driver sweeper and uninstal any video drivers listed from ATI/AMD.Re-boot and run the 12-8_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc exe file again which yo will now find on C:/AMD/support/12-8_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql/setup.exe. Run the programme again and select instal and tick the lot.Anything you dont use wil not effect performance. The exe will instal the drivers then you can re-boot.Run the 12.7 CAP 3 & re-boot.Deferag only if you do not have and ssd hard drive.AMD VISION Control center (CCC)icon can be found in the windows taskbar programmes by the taskbar clock.Hope this helps. |
Yaaaaaaay! Just found it out! Everything is good, wow... I am really glad. And playing on 1920x1080 is another wow-effect!
Thank you for your support! Great! See you in the air! |
S!
You are welcome :) See you online! |
Catalyst 12.8 Crash to Black on Launch
Gents,
After updating my AMD Catalyst to 12.8 COD launcher crashes straight away to a black screen freeze that requires a hard reboot. All attempts to start CoD result in a crash. When I tried to reinstall the previous version of Catalyst, only the Manager loaded, leaving the 12.8 drivers in place. At this point, CoD will not launch. I'm reading the previous posts but not tracking exactly which files to un-install. Following the advice above I see the following listed under the Custom uninstall: AMD APP SDK Runtime AMD Display Driver (I'm assuming this is the chipset driver referred to above) ADMI/DP Audio Driver AVIVO HydraVision AMD Accelerated Video Transcoding ADM Drag and Drop Transcoding ADM Media Foundation Transcoding AMD VISON Engine Control Center So of the two files to be excluded during the un-install, I'm not sure which one represents the AHCI drivers identified by Bird Dog? I screwed up the Catalyst drivers once before and it took two days working on a black screen to fix my mistakes. Don't want to go through that again so any help would be appreciated. In the meantime, 12.8 has killed COD for me. __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ______________ CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra 2063 120mm LQ, AM3 Phenom II X6 1090T(3.2GHz), ASUS M4A87TD EVO MB, G.Skill Ripjaws PC3 12800 DDR3 1600 16 GB RAM, 2TB HDD, Dual 1 GB AMD Radeon HD 6870 (Crossfire) GPUs, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit, Saitek X52 Pro stick/thrust/ rudder, Cyborg, 70” Sharp Quattron, TrackIR 5 |
any performance gains with this driver version?
|
I just can say that I am more or less fine with this driver-version... (see sig for rig)

AMD Catalyst 12.8 Fix
Don't suppose anyone is interested since I received no assistance in this matter, if anyone else experiences a crash on launch of CoD using the new 12.8 drivers, the fix is simple.
Go to your original download of the 12.8 driver, double-click to start it up and then select Uninstall, Express and get rid of the entire setup. When the uninstall is complete and it tells you to re-boot, don't. Just go to your Catalyst 12.6 file and double-click that to do a complete (Express) install and let it create new folders as needed. Finish the install and then reboot. CoD started up instantly after that. __________________________________________________ _______________ CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra 2063 120mm LQ, AM3 Phenom II X6 1090T(3.2GHz), ASUS M4A87TD EVO MB, G.Skill Ripjaws PC3 12800 DDR3 1600 16 GB RAM, 2TB HDD, Dual 1 GB AMD Radeon HD 6870 (Crossfire) GPUs, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit, Saitek X52 Pro stick/thrust/ rudder, Cyborg, 70” Sharp Quattron, TrackIR 5 |
S!
I used 12.8's without any problems. Now using the leaked betas dated 9th of september. I always do a full clean up before installing new drivers, DriverFusion is a neat tool for example and it is free. But for now CoD is on hold for me until the patching what we will get is done and sequel is out. Until then something else is occupying my time ;) :D |
tell me more, tell me more.....?
|
CoD Status
I think if you give CoD a try with the lastest Beta patch you'll find that most of the previous problems are fixed. I find the frame rate much improved, the legacy graphics issues cleaned up and biggest improvement for me is the memory/CPU assignments that seems to have cured the crashing problems. I can easily run a sim in mission builder with up to 80 planes, lots of static and mobile features on the ground and not have some much as a stutter unless I get tight with a large group of bombers or fighters.
As for the 12.8 Catalyst, don't know why it won't work in my machine, but the problems was cured as soon as I rolled back to 12.6. __________________________________________________ _____________ CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra 2063 120mm LQ, AM3 Phenom II X6 1090T(3.2GHz), ASUS M4A87TD EVO MB, G.Skill Ripjaws PC3 12800 DDR3 1600 16 GB RAM, 2TB HDD, Dual 1 GB AMD Radeon HD 6870 (Crossfire) GPUs, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit, Saitek X52 Pro stick/thrust/ rudder, Cyborg, 70” Sharp Quattron, TrackIR 5 |
I was refering to Flanker35:)
Nice the game works for you. I have stable fps and no crashes but when playing online, the netcode really fails. If there are more than 10 planes within like 7 kilometers, i get around 1 fps or less.... unplayable. (but still I do...) |
S!
Continu0..not flying that is for sure and no, it is not EVE Online or World of Tanks :) Something totally different and having a blast :) Anyways the newer drivers from AMD really seem to pull it together :) |
I use this 12.8WHQL (HD 7970), but have this annoying lines on the horizon:
http://i48.tinypic.com/1z1wg2q.jpg Any help? Sokol1 |
S!
Sokol, those lines came back with 2 latest RC patches..I did not have them prior these latest ones. |
Flanker,
Thanks for clarifying. I thought this issue was settled definitively when buy my first ATI - cost me 700$... :( Well, "cest la vie". Now, wait for BoM. ;) Sokol1 |
