lately i play more rof but rather this forum, here theres variety there they are monothematic about games

mikelt 08-08-2012 05:21 AM

The game has nice graphics and physics, but the planes sucks ass, so it's just a waste.

CWMV 08-08-2012 05:38 AM

And inane post of the day goes to...

Robert 08-08-2012 05:39 AM

Wow. Nice water effects.

Haven't played it in a while. I lost a hard drive and decided to upgrade my OS to 64b. Unfortunately I have a slow internet connection and don't relish the long download of so many patches.

Still. Looks like a grand effort by 777 Studios. Enjoy folks.

Skoshi Tiger 08-08-2012 07:20 AM

Water looks very nice in that video and it's great to see the vessel react to the waves, though I'ld expect the vessel to have a bit of momentum. It looks like bobbing around like a cork not like a 100ton barge. (I'd be hurling my guts up in that sort of situation :) )

Still its great to see innovations like this in a sim.

Hopefully one day we'll get something like this in the IL2-II series. Imagine landing on an aircraft carrier with it bouncing around like that! :)

ROF Channel Map - New water

very interesting work

Sternjaeger II 08-08-2012 08:36 AM

better than SH5!

Hood 08-08-2012 08:59 AM

That looks awesome even in its current state.

Hood

KG26_Alpha 08-08-2012 10:01 AM

Early work but it looks disproportional.

Ploughman 08-08-2012 10:05 AM

That's very good, looks like you might even be able to capsize a boat with a near miss with a bomb.

I wish they'd move out of The Great War and into the 30s and 40s, they've a fantastic sim but the era just doesn't 'float my boat.'

ParaB 08-08-2012 11:03 AM

Looks amazing!

I love how they keep adding and improving to the sim on a constant basis.

agreed

Dano 08-08-2012 11:34 AM

But what does it look like from the air, or are they swapping to a boat sim?

ATAG_Snapper 08-08-2012 03:12 PM

Very impressive!

Ze-Jamz 08-08-2012 04:27 PM

hey buddy:grin:

Wolf_Rider 08-09-2012 02:27 AM

Gotta admit... the "water" there looks more like how water behaves on the oceans/ seas than the behaviour in current sims which is lake/ estuary water

adonys 08-09-2012 07:02 AM

very nice work, not on the water itself, as on the behavior of the ships rolling on the waves. very nice, and indeed even better than stock SH5.

addman 08-09-2012 12:37 PM

RoF Channel water effects

Looks pretty neat, especially the way the boat interacts with the waves. Will try out the seaplanes once the next patch is released with the channel map for sure.

Enough of the ROF water threads ok! I just merged them.
Theres a rule about posting the same content in multiple threads!

Rule 8. Double Postings of similar content ... Please dont do it!

Ehrm, I didn't even see that there was another thread so sorry I guess? Hence to my surprise my thread was gone when I just now went back to check on it. LOL!

Agree. The only things that keeps me from flying RoF full-time is well, the planes and the era! WW1 planes...ugh! I just can't find myself liking them. Kites with sowing machine engines....:(

That means you never flew the Noop28. ;)

That kite has to have one of the best sounding engines out there. Tons of character.:D:

Skoshi Tiger 08-10-2012 05:36 AM

It would certainly make forced landing over water interesting! Hopefully the interaction with the plane would make proper ditching technique a nescessity

I'm kind of the opposite way. After decades of focusing mostly on WW2 era aviation, it has been a real pleasure to take on a whole different subject.

Trust me, the developers aren't getting rich off the game.

Feathered_IV 08-15-2012 07:06 AM

Wot, no 1c sponsorship and no six million dollar stipend from Ubisoft? How dare they produce a title independently!

ATAG_Bliss 08-15-2012 09:09 AM

That looks really good - motion of the ship etc. But I hope they add some ripple effect to the surface of the water. It looks as smooth as glass up top which doesn't look very good or natural.

Skoshi Tiger 08-21-2012 12:34 PM

Is it just me or have they changed the video?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2M_yn...ayer_embedded#!

I can't remember the reflections or the white water?

Maybe I was in a hurry last time I looked?

LukeFF 08-22-2012 08:11 AM

The video hasn't changed.

skouras 08-22-2012 01:17 PM

yeap..
its still the same..

Very nice indeed. I'd like to try that with their cloudy weather and rain.

How about a bit of wind chop on the water?

Doesn't look like too much interaction is happening between the plane and the water surface.

Hopefully they'll fix that.

[EDIT] I really don't wan't to sound too negative here. ROF has some very exciting stuff happening in it. I've got it on my SSD, but am too into COD at the moment to spend much time in ROF. All the best to the Devs over at ROF. Keep up the good work!

Wow. That's impressive stuff, particularly if you've seen how a Walrus lands on the water in Cliffs. I'm really looking forward to the Channel Map, if only to make a direct visual comparison.

But here's the weird thing. I really like RoF and have all the planes and most of the upgrades, but I very rarely play the game since the latest patch for Cliffs came out. Even with the terrible mixture control errors and massively overmodelled radiator drag in the RAF planes, Cliffs is still the game I go to first. It's not even because of the era. One of my first books was 'Biggles of 266' where our hero is flying Camels. I still have the book. Dunno, but I agree with Skoshi.

Whatever, the future looks bright for combat flight sims, what with a 'release candidate' in the works and a channel map for RoF.

It's a shame that the only British seaplane currently in the works is the Felixstowe, but maybe one day we'll be launching Sopwith Pups from Battleship Gun Turrets. Excellent prospects. :D

I wish I shared your enthusiasm. You get a great sim that actually works depicting an era that lifts your wig. A big win.

Strange, you'd think if ROF was such amazing fun it would help people be much better adjusted and less bitter, yet many many ROF fans seem to go out of their way to come here just to taint the air with sarcasm and scathing criticism as if ROF really isn't filling a hole in their soul like they claim.

Why do you feel the need to attack me for having an opinion. If CLOD was fun i would wanna play it simple.

Well then why not spend your time over at the RoF forum telling them how wonderful their game is, rather than jumping in every thread here to tell us all how you think 'Cliffs of Dover' is so crap?
