How I make the Launcher crash every time. Step by step method ;)
This is the procedure I have found will always get me a Launcher Crash. Forgive me, but I may as-well post all things that I do.This is with the latest Beta Patch installed, updates for the game in Steam are switched off. I also did the .net patch which is under the thread "it really works".
Launch Track IR Launch Thrustmaster Cougar Software and load my profile. Launch Steam Launch Game from desktop Icon. Steam says installing 1 update " Microsoft VC Redist Package (update 1 of 1) Game starts. I hit escape to clear the loading menu text, I then hit it again to get me to the menu screen. Once on the menu screen I choose Quick Mission I then drag the menu down to choose "Aerial Battle -Calais" Click on the Spitfire once (top right aircraft of images shown) Then load the game. The screen eventually reaches the map screen with the option of "Back" "Player Plane" or "Fly" I hit "Fly" I hit A for "Auto Pilot" I then hit the ] key to speed up the game until the dogfighting starts. (for the purpose of this I left it running) I speed up and slow down using the [ and ] keys Eventually my flight turns for home I hit escape I then go back to the menu screen. I hit Exit and I get stats for the mission I have just played I hit "Back" in the bottom left corner This takes me back to the Quick Mission selection screen I don't make any choice (assuming that I will just refly the same mission) I hit "Fly" "Launcher Has stopped working" This happens every time My system: Wndows 7 Ultimate SP1 Processor: Intel i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz (stock speed) Memory: 6GB (3x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC3-1600Mhz Motherboard: Asus P6X58D-E Graphics: MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr (stock speed) CPU Cooling: Thermaltake Frio Cooler Power: thermaltake toughpower 800w 80Plus Silver Case: Antec 900 Track IR 4 with Track IR 5 software Thrustmaster Cougar fully modded with Gimbal and Hall Sensors Simpeds |

Launcher crashes have got progressively worse and worse with the last 2 beta patches.
Yes same thing here... Run a flight, quit then load another- launcher crash. I think it's the same for everyone isn't it? |

A lot of other games crashes are caused by this. I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling the package. |

Its definitely not for everyone...I don't get any crashes with the current beta. I had one crash only when i first installed the beta (when exiting the game after I ran a dummy mission to rebuild the cache)...but apart from that no problems at all. All I can suggest is to continue to send any crash logs to the Dev team so they can hopefully find the issues you guys are still suffering from. Hope they can sort it out. cheers :) PS: I can't ever recall seeing that "Microsoft VC Redist Package" message either. |

I dont get this message and my PC crashes at the same point. |
"Steam says installing 1 update Microsoft VC Redist Package (update 1 of 1)"
I get this message each time I start the game, but I guess I am one of the "lucky ones" that does not have the CTD issues. So CTD may not necessarily be related to the above message., but I agree the above is a steam issue. system spec.: Microsoft Windows Vista(6.0.6002 sp2), HP-Pavilion, AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core processor, Memory 3GB Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GT440 |
Hi guys, thanks for the replies.
Would it be okay to ask a few of you to go through exactly the same steps as I did ( but I see some of you will not get the Microsoft message) just to see if you get a launcher crash too? If more people get the same crash, it may be a start to tracking down the Launcher problem (as long as we file crash dump files). Cheers, MP |

I did it the same way as you 3 times in a row, no ctd for me. |
.
My PC crash only seldom at random and only when I leave the game and I can never get a "dmp" file. My PC; ;) Win7 x64 Asus p6x58d I7 975 3.75Ghz System & game ssd 120Gb (great for the system and for my games). 12 Gb (6*2Gb) ddr3 1600Mhz memory Geforce gtx580 1.5Gb two of them SLI Trackir 5 Logitech G940. |
MP, I didn't use the first 4 lines of your proceedure as they are irrelevant to me but I followed the rest of the proceedure (not the auto pilot) and can't get the launcher crash that you are getting. I find that when the quick mission screen is available again I have to hit fly twice then it re-launches into the Calais mission. Tried this about six times with the same result, no launcher crash.

You can make it quit checking for the VC package in the startup, there's a thread in the steam forums detailing how.
Basically, it's running a check to see if you are on the original version, but hopefully by now, you have the latest version, and it never downloads anything. I have the pop-up reappear (along with the logo.wmv) everytime they patch the game. |
MP, in your ....\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder there is a file called 63950_install.vdf, cut it out of there and paste somewhere safe. From what I can see it's the one called to install the redist package...dunno that it will fix your ctd issue but it should stop Steam trying to install the redist package everytime.
Also used your method 5 times and no ctd... Cheers Goanna |

ive been saying it since the beginning....steam is a bad idea....just ONE more thing, that can go wrong with the game.... no where on the game box does it say steam is required....but i still have to tolerate that crap program.... i HATE steam... i LIKE Cliffs of Dover.... |
I never try to run the game twice in a row, that does cause crashes.
Always exit and rerun. . |
Well having taken the advice above, I no-longer get the 'Installing Microsoft Redist" message. Cool!
I do however now get Launcher crashes every time I play the game, during the middle of a mission. I get black artefacts (no it's not the Graphics card getting hot...it's fine and works in every other game!) flashing onto the screen...and then the Screen goes completely Black, the sound keeps running and if I hit Escape it tells me that the Launcher has stopped working.....again! I honestly want to like ClOd, I really do...but so-far I have never completed a mission without a Launcher crash...it's CloDDY ridiculous! I'll just wait again for the next Alpha/Beta patch...give it a try and see what happens :( I have enabled my Log files, so now get Crash dumps....but can't find the email address to send them too? Any chance of that email? Cheers, MP |

I believe it is something in your system, a piece of software, anti virus, even another game. Look at my modest system I never ever get a ctd, even after a couple hours straight in and out of game play...read through this Steam guide, maybe it will help locate a problem. http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=31987 also, you should run the WEI so as to check your hardware http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...Ball/Index.jpg |
Are you using 64bit Win?
I had a lot of crashes with the last official patch, but I was using 32bit OS then. Installed 64 bit OS and then I had CTDs but very, very rare, even in notorious official patch. This black artefacts you are talking about sounds like a driver problem. We have the same graphic card so I know it is not overheating. |
Yes Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate version.
Nvidia Driver 301.42 (official release not Beta) I'll post a video tomorrow showing the issue :( Cheers, MP |
Why don't you try it with some older drivers, I don't think the newer ones will give much better performance in CloD.They are optimised mostly for GTX6xx series and more popular games.
I'm using realy old one 280.26 because I wanted to see how much perfomance increase we will get with betas. And I have very good performance. Also nvidia had TDR problems with newer drivers especially with GTX560. From what I saw 295.73 are the last stable ones for the most of users. Maybe you could try them and errase the possible residues with DCleaner Pro just to be shure. Good luck! |
