BETA PATCH v.1.07.18301 - June 29, 2012

And now we think you’ve been waiting long enough!

The second part of our tonight’s update is the fresh beta patch.

We didn’t complete the readme in time. Please refer to previous updates to some info on what’s been done. We’ll provide a better readme next week.

Quick points:
Beta versions are incompatible online
FM work is far from over, we still have a long laundry sheet to go through.

International version:
http://oron.com/81rjstgyndnu
http://www.senect.com/hadal/files/il...2COD_18301.rar
http://www.easternskies.eu/downloads/IL2COD_18301.rar

Russian version:
http://oron.com/eyid9w99jcyv

Your mission for tonight: test all elements of the game. Especially focus on performance, any crashes, or any graphical glitches. Send all logs and crash dumps to ishevchenko@1cpublishing.eu

Have a great weekend!

Thanks B6

This is great news...

Won't be able to DL for a while so I would love to know from testers if the AI has been fixed to any degree.

Thanks BS!!!

SiThSpAwN 06-29-2012 03:15 PM

Yes, does this need to be installed on game running most recent patches, or will this patch a version of the game not running the last beta/hotfix combo?

**Nevermind... seen this answered :)

catito14 06-29-2012 03:15 PM

Great!! Thanks B6, after all our complains now the ball is in our field. Starting the test.

Continu0 06-29-2012 03:15 PM

Thank you!
Maybe write it in the first post!

Have a great Weekend and thank you for your hard Work!

Volksieg 06-29-2012 03:15 PM

WOAH! I clicked on the link to download the international one and it says...

IL2COD_18301_ru.rar

Whereas the 'russian' one is called...

IL2COD_18301.rar

Has there been a mix up? (I hope not as I now can't download anything from Oron for 2 hours. lol

EDIT: It's ok... I was a bit dubious of sendspace but that link works fine. I will say, though.... Downloaders beware and make sure you have the right patch! lol

Thank you!!

I know you said the readme is coming next week but can you briefly confirm that clouds/grass/effects should be tested as working now?

I presume this means that the servers will also need to update to the new beta, in order for you to join.

BlackSix 06-29-2012 03:23 PM

I think that the best variant is install on the last official version, not BETA 1.06.17582+ fix.

Exactly. So, if you want to go online it might be a good idea to wait before updating, until your favorite server also updates their version.

Sometimes you can still join if you have a different version, but it creates erratic game behaviour if you are running a version different than the server.

Hope it helps.

ems9 06-29-2012 03:23 PM

Thanks for the patch B6! I bet you made a lot of people happy ^^ =)

Guys keep in mind that is a BETA! What means is for test propose only!
If it makes your game unstable, crash whatever, don't get on the forum complaining and bitching around because the patch is broken or whatever! Instead get the logs and send them to MG team please!

Remember Beta is for test propose only, not for full game play!

Question to the devs or technical features:

Is there a better forma'de instalção?

Using the integrity check would be enough or will be advised to delete everything and download everything from scratch?

tks

Aww that sucks! Horrible time to accidentally wipe your install! I hope your connection has decent download bandwidth!

Volksieg 06-29-2012 03:52 PM

No improvements whatsoever... and even worse performance on even lower settings.

Nice to see the 109 cockpit hasn't even been fixed either.

il_corleone 06-29-2012 03:52 PM

Ok guys just made a video of the Tracers and Orders, SLUTERS ARE FROM FRAPS, whitout it 75 -70 fps , (My pc didnt pass the 75Fps)

If you do the integrity check, you will go back to the last official version (before all the recent betas).

If you uninstall everything, download and reinstall, it will also get you to the latest official version.

So, they do the same thing, but the integrity check takes less time. I prefer the integrity check ;)

My checklist:
1) Verify integrity of local files (to get back to last official version)

2) Go to your documents\1c softclub\IL-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder and go into the cache folder. Delete everything in there (the game will rebuild it based on the new version next time you run the sim).

3) Extract the beta patch in the game folder (c:\whatever_you_named_it\steam\steamapps\common\I L-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover) and let it overwrite anything it wants to overwrite

4) Run the sim one to force it to rebuild the cache.

5) Start a free flight quick mission to force it to add anything else it might need in the cache.

6) Exit the sim.

7) Restart the sim.

Now you can test your frame rates with a clean install of the latest beta, as well as a correct cache folder for your version. If you skip steps 5,6,7 you might see that initially you get worse performance, because the game might still be adding files to the cache. However, the next time you start it, it will be better and you will get the true performance.

Look forward to hearing everyone's reports. I hope this new beta patch is a step in the right direction.

Looking at that video I didn't notice anything different about the tracers. Maybe they don't burn out so quick and you can see them a little longer? But they look very similar to me.

ATAG_Bliss 06-29-2012 04:10 PM

Blacksix - Was anything done to performance of clouds? Just want to know if we can enable them or not?

Dano 06-29-2012 04:12 PM

Ok performace wise, this is the slowest the sim has ever run for me, 40fps average on BD compared to 59 for the previous beta, hell I was getting 44 prior to the gfx rewrite. Will re-install later and double check.

Duke88 06-29-2012 04:13 PM

hello everybody!

Can I install this patch in the original version of the game or have I to install after the alpha patch?

thank you!

What's the changes to the FM you're referring to? New Spits or did the 109s get nerfed?

Hi - I'm still downloading it atm, but I thought there was supposed to be new octane levels and a couple new hurricane variants + some other work on the FMs. Maybe that's not till the official patch?

What is the change with the tracers? I can't play CloD until I get a new PC, so I'm stuck gleaning everything from this forum (I couldn't really see the tracers properly in your video, il_corleone).

Epilepsy filter is off. Using WHQL certified 301.42 NVIDIA driver.

In my quick test I found that tracer view distance is fantastic now and I even noticed ricocheting rounds off the ground!

Edit: I'm getting even better performance with this patch, and clouds don't kill my fps (I never tested flying through, I only meant flying around them) although trees do still cause stuttering. Also, when radio orders are given the game still seems to freeze for a second; such as when watching the BlackDeath track.

Steuben 06-29-2012 04:39 PM

Trees still cause major stuttering on low alltitude!

had trees on low to middle! THen they build up in front of you! When i have them on high the stutter is barely noticable! Fine with me XD

These drivers caused me problems in "ArmA 2 Iron Front", I went back to the 296.10 and all worked like a charm .... try that.

Kankkis 06-29-2012 04:51 PM

Tracers looks stunning now, thats very good.

But those shadows is flickering as allways, i got migrane when flying low, same is trees, they are shimmering like hell, higher altitude game is Stunning beutiful but in low, not anymore.

Blackdog_kt 06-29-2012 04:52 PM

My initial observations:

I'm running mostly medium settings on a middle-of-the-road PC
i7 920 @ 2.7Ghz
Ati 4890 1Gb
3GB of RAM
Win7 64-bit

I cleared cache, installed, ran a quick mission and flew around for a couple of minutes to rebuild the cache, exited and restarted the sim.

It certainly seems smoother overall, even at lower altitudes. I didn't do any number crunching yet with FPS counters, but it feels fluid and nice.

The tracers are visible at longer ranges (ricochets were already in the sim, possibly from the start, but tracer view distance is much improved in this patch).

I found one bug: the bombsight view gives some weird artifacts on the part of the screen that is outside the aiming reticule/scope. Instead of being black (the "border" of the screen around the scope), it is light gray and clouds show through it. At one point, the sea was invisible and i could see the sea floor through the bombsight :-P

Finally, THE JU88 HAS A WORKING GYROCOMPASS!!! AWWWW YEAAAAHH
I tested it and the autopilots now work correctly (both modes). Later on i will test if the bombsight calculation algorithms are corrected as well, so that we can finally level bomb in it.

ATAG bomber flights during the weekend anyone ? ;)

In my quick test when watching FPS from inside cockpit, framerate inside a cloud was 50% or less compared to FPS outside the cloud.

2 things that I think are new: the way map looks and plane shadows against water surface.

Are you 100% sure? I've done a lot a missions just randomly shooting at the ground and I don't think I've ever seen a ricochet until this patch (I was flying the G.50), but that doesn't mean it wasn't there :)

Steuben 06-29-2012 05:06 PM

Hm when i fly through clouds (just tested quick mission over France on very cloudy at 1500m) i get an initial fps drop of 40 percent but then the fps are going up again! Its ok now for me at least! What i dont like is that after ending the mission WIN 7 asked me if i wanted to change to Win basic color scheme because the system is low on memory!

I SMELL A MEMORY LEAK!

Not necesarily. The W7 basic color scheme is a requirement to avoid CTD flying COD since the beggining

Yes there is a Hurricane and a Spitfires MKIa 100 octane planes. I did fly the MKIa 100 octane and the MKIIa they are fine fast and prowerful nice to fly if you take care.

Oh that may be true, I wasn't able to use the last beta patch much, I was more referring to vanilla vs. the beta patch.

People having the clouds FPS drop, can you conform its constant or is it just initially when coming in contact with clouds? (ie is it a cache reloading thing?)

I have.. hence the question. There has not been a change log associated with a patch in over 12 months. In fact i don't ever recall a change log with any patch.

Are they saying there is nothing new in this patch? It just the same as the one on 5th May. If so...i don't know how to finish that sentence.

Stability testing is the order of the day.

Release notes should be done and ready before compiling/building the exe file.
If this is not the case, and so it seems, there are a couple alarmbells sounding off in my little universe.

Any game I have ever been around they always state that the raw patch notes have to be cleaned up for public consumption, I would assume that is even more so the case with a game being developed in Russia...

First Impressions...very good.

I verified on Steam first...cleared cache and then installed the beta. Did a quick fly around in a free flight Quick mission...CTD as I tried to exit. I have since loaded the game three times separately to do individual quick missions and have had no more CTD, so perhaps the crash was a one off as the cache was rebuilt? (no idea on that).

Anyway...FPS is definitely lower for me, but the game is also a lot smoother, so its a trade off I am happy with. FPS pretty stable in the 40s so all is well. Stuttering still exists low level but it is so much reduced that I am ok with it. Once I was in a fight, I didn't notice it anymore. Trees pop into view at a much shorter distance which hurts the immersion and I hope this is not permanent (was using low trees, but I will try another setting tomorrow as I read in an earlier post in this thread.). Clouds do drop FPS further, but nowhere near as much as before (single digit FPS pre this beta)....the game remains playable as I was in and near clouds in these quick tests....nice.

All in all, it seems a good improvement on my machine. When I was getting lower FPS it felt like it was due to my computer lacking grunt rather than the game engine. That's the way it should be.

I Just did the Manston attack mission in a spitfire at 8pm game time...lighting was gorgeous...the moon's reflection over the channel was fantastic. LOVE how the tracers look now. I also don't remember the bullet ricochet before, but they are very noticeable now with the new tracer settings.

Haven't had a good test of the AI commands, however the Spits that were following me instantly attacked some 110s that were in front of me when I ordered them to...so something seems to be working in that regard. I still couldn't get clearance to land (could have been my fault) and my wingie still folllowed me down when i landed without permission, but instead of crashing next to me, he zoomed up and away.....promising.

So, a very brief test for me (Good God its nearly 4 am!). I haven't flown for a couple of months due to work/lack of time...so I enjoyed this brief little session.

In game setting pretty much on High except for Trees (Low), Land shading (Med) and Building Detail (Low).

Cheers all.

Cheers for that Dano. I hope it's been worth waiting for.
