Track ir 5

Ok, after having been removed for a while, I was wondering...those of you that have been using TRACK IR through the years; how much better is TR IR 5 versus 2?

I have 2 stashed away somewhere. I guess I wanna know, is the difference "MARKED" .."NOTICEABLE" would it be that much better to spend the money on it.

Thanx

difference between 5 and 2 is like night and day.

OK, fruitbat, thank you. I remeber 2 being somewhat tedious to set up; is 5 any better?

I found it pretty easy, for what thats worth.

Can you comment on the difference between 4 and 5?

I currently own a TrackIR 4 with trackclip. Sadly I never use them because it feels very twitchy, and the field of view is too limited to make it less so.
Could TrackIR 5 be better in this regard?

Yes, TrackIR 5 has a greater resolution than TrackIR 4 if I recall. However, you should be able to adjust the tracking curves in the TrackIR software to make things smoother where you need it (usually at the aiming point). It takes a bit of time to get used to.

In my opinion you need the 6 degrees of freedom. It's a standard now with all major sims using it. With 6DOF you really should also have the Track Clip as the three dots make positioning the sensor difficult to get good head tracking.

I have no previous TrackIR experience except for my 5 and the Pro Clip. I found it incredibly easy and straightforward to configure and use.

All great info, thank you.

I went from TrackIR 1 to 5 (with TrackClipPro LED's) after years of holding off.

The difference was enormous and well worth the money.

6DoF is brilliant in IL-2 (and other games like ArmA2). It's wonderful to be able to look around canopy frames and down at instruments that were previously always hidden.

The smoothness and reliability of tracking has massively improved too.

Recommended.

It will be nice all of you post here your favourite profiles for TIR 4 and 5, Proclip and Hat. Just for testing and allowing new users to choose and make an idea.

TrackIR 5, TrackClipPro
Yaw, Pitch, X and Y: "Smooth"
Z: "Fast"
Roll: Disabled

Centre (F12) and Pause (F9) actions toggled and trapped, mapped to X45 joystick buttons with Saitek profiler.

In game, Dark Blue World 1.7, zoom on head movement switched off using NUMPAD * 0.

ATI Catalyst - cannot use OpenGL TripleBuffer as it conflicts with TrackIR (a bug for NaturalPoint to resolve).

I have only used the latest TrackIR, and found it very easy to setp up. Basically plugged it in, download the software from the website and then go kill baddies (or get killed)
