Why not a new payed addon?

Things like a FM revision and fixes, im not saying isnt good, but maybe possible find any thing to improve it, This will be very precious! Only OLEG and 1C can do this! Nothing skins, maps, missions, etc... good for us fanatic IL-2 consomers and good to 1C Team: closing IL-2 with golden key.
No, this will not delay SOW...

If an add on is created for IL2, who will do the work necessary to prepare it for market?

MOH_Hirth 05-02-2008 02:36 AM

IL-2 still being the best of all, the comunity isnt too big, but very fanatic, in few time all will know about the new, i believe about 10.000 fast, 1C have the way to sell the download, this is a way to suport IL-2 team and improve IL-2, because nobody know yet when SOW will start the sells.

Bobby109 05-02-2008 03:22 PM

yes lets postpone BoB some more...

Bob is numero uno!

Hehe.. no comment

I wonder if it would have been financially feasible to hire a few people specifically for IL2.
It's pretty clear that there is still a lot of interest in the game. After downloading the Slovakia and Besarabia maps I realized what potential this game still has. Most people now have machines that can run the game at high settings ( took me 3 computers over six years) and it's just a shame that we'll have to start all over when SOW comes out, as far as theaters and number of aircraft are concerned. All I can hope for is that Oleg will open the Il2 franchise and let others make paid expansion packs with new planes and maps. I think for the near future, SOW and IL2 should be able to exist next to each other untill SOW grows to the point where it won't make sense/cents to keep il2 around any longer.

Paid add on for Il2? No thanks! It's a great game and all, but the engine is 7 years old. Bring on SoW! It sounds like someone needs to do a little internet surfing and see whats out there.

OK, what is the salary of a good russian developer? 3.000 dollars a month? Lets say that 1000 of us put in 50 dollars each and send them directly to Oleg. Thats about 16 months of development. Then let four devs work for 4 months and do some of the stuff the community desires as a "free" 4.10 patch (assuming that 4.09 is almost ready). Win-win for everyone. We get 4.10 and UBI/Maddox games can release a patch to all customers for free (we are not greedy so let the rest of the community have the patch too even if they do not pay). Add a list of the contributors at the end of the readme or something so the contributors get some cred.

Who starts a paypal account, and more interesting - who gathers the requirements for the project? ;)

If it just was all that easy.

Don't you think those programmers you wanna pay should know what they're doing? Or do you just want them to sit in Olegs office and have to dig through the code, the patches and history to find out where to start?
And do you really think it is all up to Oleg and his team?
And do you really expect they WANT to do another patch, just because some people want that?

Sorry - I was not clear that I did not mean this seriously, even thogh it's an interesting thought. The part of my suggestion that indicated that it was a joke was the last sentence (as it would naturally end in a 100 page thread with angry people):

..."who gathers the requirements for the project? ;)"

Beeing a manager of a development department, I can just imagine 1000 fans gethering reqirements for a project ;)

Feuerfalke 05-03-2008 06:27 AM

Well, as with MOH_Hirths post, I think many people take this idea for real, so I just wanted to point out, that if anybody takes your idea for real, he should remember that it is not that easy at all.
And then, I have no doubt that there are 1000 people willing to pay 50 bucks for an addon, if the money a) goes directly to Oleg and b) includes updates in FM and DM of their most favorite planes.

KOM.Nausicaa 05-03-2008 11:53 AM

If I would do it, then to "make official" some very easy fixes that were solved by the "aheem" site. No, I hear you coming, but it has to be said. I mean, please, just for me as mission builder, to hear that I could have saved hundreds of hours in object placing by the simple activation of a code that is already there.....that just turned me angry. 1C should officialize some of the stuff that is just to good to be denied. And yes I love Oleg. I would send 50 bucks to do that. And I don't think they get 3000 a month--I wish they would--but unfortunately I fear it's less.

Hope I dont get flamed now.

Real fans IL-2 will suport this sugestion, 1C is a professional Company produce games, and long time fans want buy a adon, wath is wrong?

I believe SOW is loong time ready to start, since 2006, only waiting the best way to sell and the best "D Day".

ElAurens 05-03-2008 01:59 PM

The Maid Of Honor has spoken.

Get a grip people. IL2 is finished.

Move along, nothing to see here.

Feuerfalke 05-03-2008 02:48 PM

It's okay that people want to see their favorite game being supported for infinity at best, but I think the complete and total denial of any other options or 1Cs own business-plans just takes away all credibility.

nearmiss 05-03-2008 09:50 PM

Oleg, will try to keep some momentum with Il2 users. If BOB SOW is having issues that will lead to more delays... a 4.10 wouldn't surprise me at all.

I've been a fan of the game since it came out, but good grief, it's time to move on. How long do you want them to keep supporting the game and thus taking away resources from SoW? 8, 9, 10 years?

ElAurens 05-04-2008 04:31 AM

Agree 100%

Codex 05-04-2008 04:34 AM

Only way a paid add on is going to hit the shelves is if a third party develops it. To be honest I wouldn't waste my money, I'd rather spend the $$ on BOB.

Just like Windows XP ... it's time to move on people ... opps, did I just say that out loud. ;)

BrewsterPilot 05-04-2008 03:23 PM

I'd pay for an addon that would effectively lock out sound mod users from flying on-line.
If they want to go on creating bad quality addons with unrealistic characteristics, let them do it offline.

Really??? I totally agree about FM/DM, but the aesthetic quality of some of the addons is pretty good. If I had my wish, I would like to see what others have suggested for SOW, that the FM/DM be locked, but other areas left open.
