Historical use of the derated 190A4 & the fully rated 190A4

Was the derated 190A4 used as a fighter on the Ostfront or was it jabo & was the fully rated 190A4 used at all on the Eastern front?

What were the Antons used for in the African & Italian theaters was it multirole fighter bomber tasks or fighter roles & did the derated 190& the fully rated 190A4 make it to the Med theaters at all. I am trying to find out this info for DCG campaigning

I'd recommend to not use the de-rated A-4 for the Eastern front at all, the Fw got there rather late and by that time the BMW 801D wasn't de-rated any more. It is still possible that some units would have restrictions in place, for instance for new engines or simply to reduce wear and tear. Since the A-4 was used almost to the wars end, the fully rated version would still have a place on the Eastern front.

Not sure about Africa and MTO.

Yes, but not only. Both III./ZG2 (later re-designated iIII./SKG10) and II./JG2 also had A-3s and A-4s on strength, and possibily also some A-2s.

Right, II/JG2 was stationed in Tunisia January to March 1943 and had A-2 to A-5 models in their roster. At that time, it wouldn't be de-rated versions any more.

Since the OP asked for fighter units, ZG/SKG do not qualify, or were the designations just a smokescreen?

Well, the main role of III./ZG 2 - III./SKG 10 unit was ground attack but it flew quite a number of airfield/harbour patrols and bomber interceptions when necessary. When II./JG2 withdrew from Tunisia in March 1943, it handed over its machines to III./SKG 10.

Thanks for the info!

Thx for the info's!
Do you know some good sources about air war in Africa after El Alamein ?

One of the best known source is "Fighters over Tunisia" by C. Shores but it is an old book and very hard to find. (and expensive too). The same is valid for the books about german fighter units by J.Prien.

Books from the Osprey series have info about various fighter and bomber units but these are too general since they often cover time intervals than the after-el Alamein air operations.

A nice book is "Fw 190 in North Africa" by A.Arty and M.Jessen

There are also many website of specific air units with lots of pictures and first-hand accounts. Some examples follow:

The first operational deployment of Fw-190 at Eastern Front was September, 15, 1942 at Leningrad area.

There is a good new book Focke-Wulf FW190: Volume One 1938-1943 by Smith and Creek. The book has a section with JG26 technical in May 1942. "It is therefore suggested to increase to boost pressure of the D-Type to 1.42 ata." Early Fw190A1, A2 and A3 had problems with oil pipe ruptures, seized pistons and bad vibrations.
