please give us the me109 sound of the previous patch back!

The title of this thread says all.

Why they changed the perfectly Me109 sound? I cant believe it!

Bloblast 05-16-2012 10:31 PM

Did they change the sound of the 109? Did not hear this. I did hear clearly differences in the Ju88 and the Fiat G50.

bw_wolverine 05-16-2012 10:46 PM

Have to agree that the 109 adjustment wasn't for the better, to MY ears. I would be interested to see the community at large's response though. Perhaps a poll question?

Does the 109 sound more or less real since the recent update?

ElAurens 05-17-2012 12:10 AM

I think a better poll would be: "How many members have actually heard a 109 E in real life?"

I have, BTW.

Good point, because I never have. And I appreciate the huge number of YouTube recordings will never do the Real Thing justice. What I can say, though, is:

1) the pre-patch snarl and supercharger whistle would turn my blood cold and stand the hairs up on the back of my neck, and

2) the post-patch + Hotfix 109 external sound sounds like a wet fart that brings a smile to my face every time I hear it.

Personally, despite my appalling lack of first hand knowledge of such things, my vote goes to Door #1! :-P

That explains the experience I had on ATAG, I was orbitting near Calais in a Spit II with my canopy open and heard a very faint farting noise somewhere just behind and below my tail.

While I was wondering what this meant my screen suddenly went black :)

The current BF109 is not really the best sound. :(

She had a nice "raspy" sound, that is now gone.
v1.05 sound was 100% better (and more realistic).

I love this (video) sound.

skouras 05-17-2012 05:24 AM

the sounds is still in beta and not final
the previous 109 sound was much better but lets wait and see;)

Plt Off JRB Meaker 05-17-2012 07:51 AM

Agreed, the 109 did sound better in the previous patch,I think it was one of the things that the majority of us had agreed on I thought, and we were full of praise for it.I can remember loads of us commenting on here how good it was.

Why then the devs decided to change it God only knows, are they really reading the comments on this forum?,one would have to wonder.

It's not rocket science to realise then, why the patches are taking so long to come to fruition.........they're wasting time IMO on the stuff that could be left alone.

skouras 05-17-2012 08:14 AM

agreed..

Not just the sound, the whole game is in beta, or even alpha because I've seen more polished and complete betas... I wonder if it'll ever go gold...

I doubt the sound guy is trying to fix crashes in the engine code :/ He might as well do something.

It's possible that the change in the 109s sound is a bug as a result of the changes to the Spitfire / Hurricane sounds, applying it to the DB engine as a mistake. We'll have to see.

kestrel79 05-17-2012 01:50 PM

Did the E model 109 not have that distinctive "whistle" noise the later models did? You could barely hear it in that video. I've seen a later model fly at an airshow and you can really hear that cool whistle as it flies by. What makes that noise the supercharger or turbo? I don't really know.

I don't have the new beta patch but loved he old sound of the 109 so I hope they can keep it. Doing flybys was so much fun!

ElAurens 05-17-2012 04:51 PM

It's from the hydraulic coupling on the supercharger I do believe.

109s were not turbo-supercharged.

khaAk 05-17-2012 08:56 PM

This video is better^^

I believe its the supercharger, and its probably more distinct than in other planes because it operated on the side of the engine, so the intake is very short and does not shield so much of the high-pitch noise its making, as in most fighters which typically mounted the supercharger deeper in the structure, behind the engine.

Though come to think of it, IIRC the Mustang has similar 'whine' on flybies..

One thing that did not need any improvement and they loose precious times on (poor) modification ?!!!

Where is that face-palm picture ? I need it NOW!

ElAurens 05-18-2012 12:33 AM

To be fair, this is still pretty much a pre beta, so I won't worry much until we get the final release version.
