Two cents from a former lurker

Hi Folks

An old time IL-2 player, and I've been lurking here since COD came out to see which way things would go.

Finally bought it. Understand all the gnashing of teeth and frustration, but I got to tell you, I like it. Worth what I paid, and hoping it gets better.

Running it on an IMAC with a Windows partition. Half a gig video card means pretty low settings--FPS around 15 over land, but I'm trying to massage more out of it.

One surprise--that there aren't more player generated missions and campaigns available, after a year. I really liked some of the old IL-2 campaigns--Battle of Britain, defending Henderson, the Norwegian campaign. Realize we have a limited map, but Rhubarbs, night interceptions? Wish I was experten enough to make them myself.

Going through my learning curve.

One glitch--the blue text for autopilot, gear, flaps, pitch, etc was there, has disappeared. Anybody know why? Is that text covered by a control option I might have hit by mistake?

Thanks for the help. S^ to all. Great to be back.

It is arguably worth the 20USD you pay for it now but certainly not the fraudulent 50euros price tag when it first came out. What a rort!!!

Hi Jungmann, so it does run on iMacs with a 512MB video card! :)
Some time ago I posted a query for a friend who has a similar setup but wasn't sure whether it would run on his machine, I'll pass him the info then, thanks. I take it you have the latest version of the patch, how bad are the graphics settings?

Actually to me it's exactly the oposite. My game worked ok from the begining on my older rig. Once I built a new PC, I had no performance isues and the game looked stuning.
To me, that game I bought over a year ago was worth the money I paid for it. This one we have now isn't worth the 20 bucks is selling for.
My performance got progressively worse from patch to patch and the game looks very bad now. They butchered everything that looked good in this game and it just puts me off everytime I'm playing.
I have two older instals and the difference is shocking. I just can't understand how could you make a game run worse after you chopped off everything that made it look good.

It does work in a Mac, but in a Windows HD partition. I'm still exploring around, but I'd say close to low end specs. My options are all on medium right now. Wonder if this beta patch is going to improve things.

I think it's worth $50+ .. works great on my machine.

Why I haven't created any missions is lack of aircraft! I'm half way through 'Death of 141 Sqn' but strange Defiant AI has stopped me dead, plus life gets in the way too.

I can recommend the campaigns that you can buy from Desastersoft. You can download Demos of both "Wick vs. Dundas" and "Channel Battles" which already have quite a few missions. And they add a career system CloD ist missing so badly.

Yeah mate, one would think so, but it's kinda crazy considering that the game itself is going for $14.99 atm and a few weeks ago it was a staggering £4.99!!!

Hey there. It could be related to this: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthr...ht=remove+text

Try to check if it works for you. Make a backup copy of the file first though in case anything goes wrong :)

I could never play IL2 again regardless of the glitches and issues we have in this sim.

The Memory leak introduced after the last official patch was the reason I stopped playing just because 45 minutes isn't long enough to take off climb, patrol engage and land and inevitably we would crash at the engage part.

This patch has made quite a positive difference for me in the smoothness and the memory leak crashes are gone but I do get the occasional random crash instead but hey it's a test patch released so that they can collect the crash files much quicker than if they were testing themselves and leaves them free to fix the bugs we find.

I have been a fan who became more and more jaded to the point that I didn't want to fly but this patch has reignited my interest and I have found myself playing more and more even against the AI thanks to Von Pilsner's AI Tweak which makes fighting the AI more fun.

You can find player built missions and yes there are much less of them at the moment but they are there. Also dig in to the FMB which is a bit daunting I admit but it's not quite as bad as it looks....I should follow my own advice there ;)

Ta, Madfish. Will give it a go.

Check out link #1 in my sig for user campaigns. Missions can be found on the same server too.

More $.02. It is worth $50USD. For those of us that have been waiting for "Storm of War" since 10 years ago, it was, kind of still is a little, really frustrating to pay $50+ and have the thing not work very well. This left a very sour taste in many peoples' mouths, which is understandable. However, this sim is nothing short of amazing and they have got it to where it is at least stable enough to launch and play. It still has bugs, but as long as they continue to strive to fix it and expand it, it can only get better.

I just hope that the off-line campaign will be addressed someday. My biggest disapointment is that there is no dynamic campaign. I used to love flying on-line with my old squad-mates in IL2 and CFS2/3 but there are/were times, I just want to pretend and the off-line campaign would satisfy this itch.

Jungmann did you get my PM?

why dont you post some comparison screenshots, since you still have both installed :)

on initial release the lighting looked pretty stunning, but if you had no micro stutters combined with low fpsec's even on a higher end machine, you might have been one of the exceptions (it was unplayable on my mid end pc)

i agree that as 1c & Co cut and chopped things out of the game to try and get higher fpsec's, the game progressively looked less good, partic in lighting, scenery color tones, and clouds etc..
