Having better results...
A couple of tweaks and tonight ive had no crashes(so far) and much less stutters.
1. No idea if this helps but i saw in another post on Sim HQ that editing the conf.ini and switching "DepthBits =24" to "DepthBits =64" has helped reduce the stutters and CTD. 2. Turned trees to medium. 3. Turned grass off. Now this is by no means perfect but it has at least allowed me to fly a few sorties until hopefully they can fix the problems, i just hope it doesn't take another 6 months. |

That's good news, at least you can enjoy it more...how do you like looking around? the eye candy is getting depleted fast :-P |

Furbs: Glad to hear it, hopefully the patching process will speed up a bit now, preferably less than 6 months this time, yes, quite so. |
Well, like i say im not happy with much less eye candy...
Land textures seem reduced. Plane textures lower. Blurry cockpit dials. No grass. No medium or far clouds. Plus other oddities that people have reported. No bullets decals. No flash effects. I think thats where some are getting the FPS increase, reduced eye candy. So not great...and i dont think they will be fixed any time soon but at least with these small tweaks its running ok. |

What game is that?

Me too! I'll never forget when I lost my 38 kill ace diving on a 110 who was bombing the Chain Home radar masts.

This patch has nothing to do with fixing CloD, it's all about testing us users, to estimate how much further reduction in visual quality the developers can get away with in the quest for better performance and stability.

Agreed.

You could even name your Squadron members. Somehow the loss seemed a little dearer when your Real Life good drinking buddy "Curly" got the chop! LOL |

BTW it is a great poll material. Would you be willing to accept SLIGHTLY lowered video detail settings to enjoy a fluent, smooth CloD experience all around? IMO the blurred cockpits can`t stay. I liked the sharp dials. Either this or we get the speedbar back. |
In that game I remember being absolutely BLOWN AWAY the first time I bailed out and the battle kept going around me in my parachute.
I have a feeling that for many 40 something pilots "Their finest hour" put them on the road they are still on now :) Furbs, I am in the same boat for the beta patch. Initially 5-10 mins CTD I reverified the retail patch through Steam, defragmented , cleared cache, reapplied beta patch: Instead of rapid CTD, big freezes every couple of minutes (~0.5sec) but then it recovered. CTD at around 30 minutes flying into a big furball. Tried Depthbits=64 and turned off grass. No freezes, smooth operation. Flew to France, killed a 109 but still got CTD over France before Spit petrol ran out. camber |
I had still the Finest Hour and thats work with the DOS emulator. Also SWOTL(Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe)of the same serie that works too. Nice souvenirs.

Does anyone know what depthbits 24 or 64 actually does?
I'm flying with everything on high, trees on low and grass, shadows on and getting 45-60 fps flying low over trees and less micro stutter than before patch. I tested with fraps and black death also. It's very easy to be fooled by subjective impression. Either expecting improvement or expecting problems. |
BoB Their Finest Hour was bloody epic, I had it on the Amiga. I remember bailing from my hurri and watching it smash into a he111 on the way down :D
