Are you flying CLOD?

After reading the "fanboy vs detractor" poll i thought this might be more interesting...

Feathered_IV 05-03-2012 08:33 AM

I'm not. Since the first day of release I've done 46hrs in total. It's the time spent checking in here for a fix that has really added up. Maddox Games aught to provide the game for free and charge a subscription to the forums. :)

Insuber 05-03-2012 08:35 AM

The more I play (online only - ATAG only) the more I like it. It's a paradigm shift from the old Il2.

Gourmand 05-03-2012 08:39 AM

A few times a week
but with friend, formation flying mean freeze or back windows :(
so i eagerly awaiting the patch ;)

Flanker35M 05-03-2012 08:54 AM

S!

Online after patch but now and then just testing things offline. And now waiting for the Warthog to come as had to take it in for guarantee repairs...

Trumper 05-03-2012 09:23 AM

My computer wont play it right now ,well only on low/medium settings BUT i won't upgrade my computer for it until AFTER the patch has been reported to be working.
I also won't be buying BOM until this is fixed.

PotNoodles 05-03-2012 09:24 AM

Until the patch is out the game is just to awful to play. I feel like I am flying in slow motion and with half the game missing it's like waiting for the rest of the jigsaw.

Bobb4 05-03-2012 09:37 AM

Waiting for patch. Must admit I did start it up a week ago just to have a look to see if the ATI stripes are gone with latest ATI driver. They are not.
But I have not flown it in ages.

pstyle 05-03-2012 09:49 AM

Play often. Runs just fine on my machine, I've only had the occasional CTD after significant periods of continuous multiplay.

Helrza 05-03-2012 10:15 AM

i dont play atm purely because of ctd's. But will return the moment its fixed, hopefully with the new rig running it :) cant wait :)

=FI=Scott 05-03-2012 10:29 AM

I did re-install in anticipation of the patch but haven't played it for ages. Will try and get back into it when the patch arrives.

ATAG_Dutch 05-03-2012 10:42 AM

Some weeks every day, some weeks a few times a week, so kind of inbetween the first two options.

There are other things to do in life after all.

Flight sim-wise, now and again I like to continue my career as a DH2 pilot in 1917 maybe once a week, but mostly I fire up Cliffs of Dover.

Plt Off JRB Meaker 05-03-2012 10:48 AM

A few times a week......some of us need the training you know old boy!;)

senseispcc 05-03-2012 11:06 AM

I have some 300 hours of flight on monoplanes more than 200 of them of British Spitfire but not many in combat. I love to fly over the groung and water of the Chanel, building some missions to explore the sountryside and from time to time find or not find a ennemy plane to fight. The weather is also a nice feature with some bugs. In all a great game.

This made me think- many of us have had more time on CoD than many pilots had before they were sent up to do it for real.

TonyD 05-03-2012 11:17 AM

I fly a couple of times a week, mainly due to time constraints and competition with other simulators I have. Never had a problem running it, but solely off-line.

My only irritant, but not unusual if you happen to have a Cayman GPU :(

fruitbat 05-03-2012 11:20 AM

Bimble in it every now and then, but dogfight servers don't float my boat, and until it runs better, even though its fine on my machine, its out of reach for most of my squad mates, Would probably fly more if there was a proper co-op gui, but ......

kevchenco 05-03-2012 11:31 AM

Fly a good few times a week - i have got a couple of hundred hours under my belt since i bought it during chrimbo 2011

Im an online guy myself so depends how busy the (two) servers are.
ATAG for a bit of a serious sit down session.
Repka for quick session (mainly getting sniped from 500m)

Whenever they are quiet im back to ROF or 1946

ATAG_Doc 05-03-2012 11:42 AM

No CoD but post in here anyway. Because I fear this will break up my clan mates and I won't have nuttin to do. So I comes in here and troll and axe leading and repetitive questions.

BP_Tailspin 05-03-2012 12:11 PM

I'm the first one to vote "waiting for BOM". I uninsulated CoD a long time ago, I guess I just don't have the time or enthusiasm for it ... Sad.

archer11 05-03-2012 12:12 PM

A few times a week, offline only. Not enough sparetime in these days.

159th_Jester 05-03-2012 12:34 PM

Waiting for the patch.

After the last patch I reinstalled it and was very impressed by the improvemtn over the initial release, but still find the game would CTD if I tried to run two missions consequtively without restarting the program.

I'm hoping this will be sorted out with the upcoming patch. If not then I'll be uninstalling it again and waiting for any future developments.

I really hope the upcoming patch does the trick. CloD has so much to offer and I'm really wanting to invest the time into it to enjoy it properly.

Lurker_71 05-03-2012 12:39 PM

Since launcher.exe crashers are a true show stopper and since AI is less than desirable (to say the least), I'm waiting for the next patch (not holding my breath tho)

EDIT: And I must add that I have no performance issues with the game. I have great FPS and no stutter whatsoever on my mediocre machine: win7 64 8 GB, i7 870, gtx 460 with settings med to high and more than 100 ac in the air. If only the AI would have been workable and no launcher crashes, I'd give this one 8 out of 10.

d.burnette 05-03-2012 12:54 PM

I purchased it from Steam a few weeks ago, spent a lot of time in the beginning mapping my controls , building a profile for my Cougar for it. I have probably about 3 hours in it of actual flying - all offline, single player quick missions. It performs " reasonable" on my system, but after reading all about what this patch should do for it, I have been basically holding off spending much time with it waiting for the patch.

raaaid 05-03-2012 01:01 PM

myself im put off by the launcher crashes and lack of people online

racing while waiting for the patch

kestrel79 05-03-2012 01:05 PM

I play flight sims and racing sims. Due to limited space for wheels/joysticks I can only play one sim genre at a time. Right now I'm in "race" mode so haven't flown for a while. Once I get my stick setup then I fly every day usually online on ATAG.

Great fun for me as I don't seem to be affected by the CTDs that other people have had.

NLS61 05-03-2012 01:06 PM

At the moment gliding season is in full swing so less and less

ATAG_Snapper 05-03-2012 01:14 PM

In anticipation of the upcoming patch I needed more time to devote to Cliffs of Dover, so I quit my job, divorced my wife, disowned the kids, sold the house, and now live in a pup tent with my PC & peripherals behind a William's Coffeehouse. The manager has provided me with an electrical power cord, free Wifi, and all the day-old bagels I want.

I mean, how does it get better than that? Well, a blanket would be nice........

He111 05-03-2012 01:21 PM

IF I have spare time .. love watching those beautiful aircraft.

Riley would rather eat a pile of cat poop than do that.

1.JaVA_Sharp 05-03-2012 03:18 PM

unfortunately I find myself in need of the patch.

SG1_Gunkan 05-03-2012 04:42 PM

I have been out of skies for some months and after coming bak.. i am so impressed! Now the game is playable!! I miss the online interface of IL2 Sturmovik, but at least it's working. When they fix the memory leak it's going to be amazing.

Good work 1C.

Jaws2002 05-03-2012 04:49 PM

Haven't played clod in over a month. I got tired of that CTD fest.

Flia 05-03-2012 05:01 PM

Waiting for patch.Lots of CTDs.

ElAurens 05-03-2012 05:02 PM

Waiting for the CTD fix.

Have not played in a long time.

I'd love to fly again, but the game in it's current state is just too frustrating to deal with.

Sadly the last few weeks I've found myself in this category too!

Just cannot bring myself to put any mroe time into something that is well overdue fixing: there is only so much supporting you can do and I've reached my limit until the CTD issue is resolved.

Or 60% of people who payed money for the sim dont play it.
You keep forgeting *** most of the people who make negative posts want to play, they want it to be fantastic, hence the by far largest % is people waiting for the patch, ive told you this many times.

wrt the 52%

True of most if not all games

What is real interesting is just how may are still playing it what with ALL the so called bugs that some (the 5%) would have you belive makes the game un-playable

ATAG_MajorBorris 05-03-2012 06:09 PM

I've been flying less in in anticipation of the patch but the sim is still very playable.

New missions are comming online (ATAG of course) that will help the patch be more fun as well!

Yeah right....that's how all games are. Most if not all games are not played for a whole year by 60% of the people who bought it if they hear there is a patch in the works. Give us a break Ace....do you actually believe yourself when you post this nonsense?

i would think this might be more of a statement to how large the average PC hard drive is these days :) I do remember a time when space on any of my computers was at a premium but the last two i built have so much room i just end up leaving everything on for the most part. i have games still installed that i might only play once or twice a year lol

Not at all

The numbers don't lie!

Well.. most of the time they don't lie

As you may recall, one of furbs polls awhile back was inindated with multi votes.. You know people who created a new forum handle to vote more than once.. And what with all the recent bans I would not be suprised to see alot of new voters showing up to this poll.. You know the types.. A join date of this month with less than 10 posts but speak with forum experance of someone that has been here and interacted with others for years

I'd expect that a very high proportion of those who uninstalled the game would not be hanging around the forum any more to tell us that in a poll.

Personally, I fire it up probably about once a week, but voted for waiting for the patch

Astonishingly I find I have over two hundred and thirty hours logged in CLoD but I don't think I've put more than ten hours into this game since Christmas. I await the patch but on the upside I did find RoF and thats kept me well happy ever since.

I look forward a few months into the future when we can all be enjoying two first class combat flight sims of equal quality.

JG5_emil 05-03-2012 09:11 PM

played for the first time since december the other night. Crashed after 55 minute and that was enough.

my other issue, almost more important than the crashes is the absense of coops which just kills the game for me. dogfights just dont do it for me.

Welshman 05-03-2012 09:28 PM

uninstalled atm but not saying ill never fly it again once its fixed but one things for sure i wont be holding my breath .

Thee_oddball 05-03-2012 10:27 PM

Catastrophic hard drive failure a few months ago but i have not reinstalled the game ...waiting for patch.

Icarus1 05-03-2012 11:33 PM

Gave up and uninstalled CoD, tired of the crashing and stutters and just all round poor software. Flying this now. Its a beta and runs smoooooth and no crashes and looks great. And it has antialiasing too! Sound is awesome. I'll practice my dogfighting with this and check back in a year or two to see if CoD has caught up.

Restarting every sortie all but alleviates the CTD's for most of us. I haven't had one in a long time. By using the direct connect link, restarting the game takes less than 30 seconds from exiting the game to reconnected and spawned in a plane. I don't think most of us get annoyed by having to wait 30 seconds and a couple mouse clicks after an hour sortie. At least I hope not. ;)

haha That isnt the point... On your server you have full realism on and seems to be the only sever populated. 40mins isnt long enough to spot a plane or anything for that matter.. Most of the time I get up in the air.. fly around hoping to find a target to shoot at.. realise im chasing disappearing dots.. and boom crash. Looks like to me also that yeah most people are annoyed by this and the main reason people arent playing multiplayer. And how can you even say that restarting is an option to 'alleviate' the CTD's.. this is just a manual way to do a crash basically. the 30 seconds more is the least of the problem.

ATAG_Bliss 05-04-2012 02:12 AM

Sorak,

I usually spot an enemy AC before I take off on most occasions, let alone fly around looking for them. If you read the briefing, note where the spawning airfields are, read the radar messages etc., if you're taking more than 10-15 minutes to spot a contact (10-15 minutes happens to be around the time it takes to get some alt and go across the channel) then you need some glasses :). Btw, ghost dots don't show up on radar. So I usually only go after radar call outs to avoid them. Also, most people use coms for teamwork, spotting enemy etc. If you read the chat messages, you'll notice the screen is usually filled with deaths on both sides, constantly scrolling. This should be a huge hint that many people are finding the enemy on a regular basis ;)

Noone is saying the game is working great. Quite the opposite. It's just for many of us, I guess with high end systems, that we've tweaked to get the most out of IL2COD, it's a very enjoyable experience even in it's buggy state. And because of the feeling of flight, the GFX, the immersion of flying around the huge channel map, it's quite fun.

CWMV 05-04-2012 02:59 AM

Speak for yourself. Ive got a nice "high end" system and haven't even bothered to fire the game up in a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.
Until its working in single player, its just dead in the water.

vpmedia 05-04-2012 06:08 AM

I support this game but it doesnt support my hardware so I'm waiting for the patch...it seems to me that more than a year...at some point I went back to 46 and DBW modpack...I even rebuilt myself a BoB map :)...but I'd really like to make skins for CoD

1946 is sweet to smooth the patch abstinence... Flew an online mission yesterday evening on Uk Dedicated 1 in a Ju-88 with torpedoes. After getting in under heavy aaa off the North African coast I got a good hit on a British battleship, on the way back I got badly shot up by a pair P-40:s but my trusty gunners amazingly managed to get both of them - but my plane really was in bad shape, leaking all kinds of fluids and one aileron shot off. My wife came in disturbing me right then so limping home to my "Sicily" airbase I realize the was another P-40 stalking my base! Arghh! In the confusion I had flown to Malta and the British base :) Doing a 180 turn towards my own base I have to reduce power as the overheating was bad, the only gunner alive is the belly gunner so I have to do some dolphin flying for him to get a number of bursts at the chasing P-40... He starts smoking after a while and just as I realized that my only gunner hero was out of ammo he stalls at low altitude and spins into the med. I gain some altitude as the gasoline has been leaking for 15 minutes and the engines die just as I pass the Sicily coast line... Manage a perfect three pointer and my smoking plane shrieks to a stop...

Does it get better than that?

I was going to get this while I wait, but I wanted to know what type of planes you fight against and are there ground targets? Can someone please answer this because I cannot find this information anywhere. Also, is this a beta and how much of it is complete percentage wise? Thankyou!!

And it has antialiasing too! Sound is awesome. I'll practice my dogfighting with this and check back in a year or two to see if CoD has caught up.
