I'm there definitely.

As a Friends of Duxford member I have some nice extras that day :)

There's going to be some squad members from Il2 1946 also, so should be a nice meet up.

Sternjaeger II 04-30-2012 01:32 PM

I haven't missed one since 2003, although there's a fair chance this year I might be on the other side of the fence

pupaxx 04-30-2012 01:49 PM

It is the airshow I would like to go the most. I miss since 2009, no chances to go this year, please shot some nice pics for those like me who rest at home!!cheers

Kupsised 04-30-2012 01:57 PM

Plan is to be down there on the Sunday at the moment. Should be good, though it's a shame it's on the same weekend as RIAT

fruitbat 04-30-2012 04:15 PM

Hi Kup,
Are you going from Gloucestershire? I'll be off with Wedge on the Saturday, stay the evening and meet up with some of the squadron for a night in Cambridge before going to the Sunday show next day. If you're doing that then we're up for a liftshare.

Plan at the moment is to drive up at early oclock Sunday morning and kip with family up that way Sunday evening after the show to avoid the rush home, we'll see if that sticks though. If it doesn't, we'll let you know!

JG52Uther 04-30-2012 04:53 PM

Not sure if I'm doing Sat or Sunday yet. Might hang around in the Classic Wings enclosure.

Classic wings? as in Air atlantique? do you have an association with them? I used to work for them.

JG52Uther 04-30-2012 05:02 PM

One of the Duxford groundcrew is in JG52, I have shared a few drunken evenings with them at Duxford...

danjama 04-30-2012 09:31 PM

I'm going! Biggest treats are Spit I P9374 and Snafu! Cannot wait. Will be with my girlfriend though.

mcler002 04-30-2012 10:29 PM

mcler002 04-30-2012 10:59 PM

O one more thing

Just out of interest, if i cant make both days

Is one day better than the other? or just about the same?

Cheers

There is a full flying display list somewhere. Sometimes each day might have an exclusive flight or two, but generally they are the same.

I've always preferred the Sunday though. Something about being there for the ending. Normally the weather is acceptable on both days but this can't be predicted obviously.

It would be an honour to share a pint with you sir.

It's been 40 years since I was last in England. (I was 18 then). I do miss a good pint at the local. Oddly enough I was in Cambridge, not that far from Duxford.

Seriously, why not an IL2 CoD meeting point anyway, cross squad. Would be fun :)

I remember meeting some of EAF a few years ago, they made it easy by all wearing squad T-shirts!

I normally join the audience, because most of my friends don't have the access I would and to avoid the unpleasant carousel of who to bring in with you (can do 1, not 6). Besides it became a sort of tradition, which is very good.

The guys I fly with aren't too keen on Flying Legends after a couple of hairy moments they had in the past during the Balbo (and particularly what happened last year to BBD), but I might have convinced them to fly in this year (albeit not taking part to the display), as u can imagine there's quite a difference between being at the airshow and being the airshow ;)

Flying participation announced for the 2012 Flying Legends Air Show

With only three weeks to go to this year’s Flying Legends Air Show on Saturday 30 June and Sunday 1 July, The Fighter Collection and IWM Duxford are delighted to announce some of the stunning aircraft that will be flying in this year’s extravaganza event.

Flying Legends sees the air show debut of The Fighter Collection’s Republic P-47G Thunderbolt 42-25068 ‘Snafu’, one of only two Curtiss-built examples left in the world. (See Editors Notes for a full aircraft biography).

The Sikorsky S-38 makes its UK debut at Flying Legends. An American twin-engine eight-seat amphibious aircraft, it was sometimes called ‘The Explorer’s Air Yacht’ and was Sikorsky’s first widelyproduced amphibious flying boat. In addition to serving with Pan American Airways and the United States Army, the Sikorsky S-38 was owned by numerous private individuals, including aviators Howard Hughes and Charles Lindbergh.

Making a welcome return following their debut UK air show appearance at Flying Legends last year is the Flying Bulls’ Lockheed P-38 Lighting and the Chance Vought F4U-4 Corsair. The Flying Bulls’ stunning aerial performances will no doubt wow the crowds at Flying Legends.

Flying Legends is famous for presenting a unique combination of remarkable aircraft in superb aerial displays and this year is no different.

Over fifty aircraft will be participating, including two Hispano Buchon; eight Spitfires covering various marques, including two Mark One variants; three Hawker Sea Furies; three Hawk variants including the Hawk 75, the P40B and the P40F; three marques of YAK fighters; a Fiesler Storch and a Lysander. Three First World War aircraft – the Nieuport 17, Fokker DR1 and Sopwith Triplane - will fly together for the first time. The ever-popular Breitling Wingwalkers will perform as a two-ship display. And of course, there will be displays by the famous IWM Duxford-based B-17 Flying Fortress, Sally B and the PBY Catalina Miss Pick Up.

The legendary Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Supermarine Spitfire, Avro Lancaster and Hawker Hurricane will display on Saturday 30 June only, while on Sunday 1 July only the Aerostars perform stunning aerobatics.

I am very jealous.

I'd love to see an early Hawk in flight.

Have a good time gents.

Osprey 06-23-2012 12:48 PM

Stars of the show for me this year will be the Thunderbolt :D

Hope our crappy weather doesn't screw it up - we're having yet another storm pass over us, about the 10th in the past 3 months :(

JG52Uther 06-23-2012 01:02 PM

Forecast is currently looking ok. Lets hope for some sun.

Osprey 06-25-2012 12:21 PM

I'm not so sure, this is worrying. This is Thursday......

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/d...ts/TimeStep/72

That's one mother of an occlusion just a day or 2 away, but I hope that blocking anticyclone over the Alps can hold it off.

EDIT: Nice one Met Office, they use the same image names so this is no longer the one I posted!

Ploughman 06-26-2012 10:14 AM

A worrying dose of rain late Friday, but the weekend looks pretty good at the moment. Hopefully the rain won't move forward, so Sunday looks like the best day at the moment. Enjoy yourselves. See you down there one year.

Its a shame the WWI stuff didn't fly. And I cannot believe they let the guy fly at Old Warden as the wind was so strong. If it was a wind-induced crash then it was crazy. Still tragic though.

Awesome picture. Tht's a scary closed formation for high powered piston's engines planes!

Thx for sharing. Although You shld add a copyright on that one imo.

Seems you are talking abt a crash, what happened ?

PS: yes the French speaker can be really annoying... even in French (he is covering much of the airshow on that side of the channel too since nearly the last 20 years !)
