Convergence unit of measurement?
I read somewhere that convergence is in meters while gunsights are in yards...is this true? Should I be making the unit conversion in my sights?
|
That's true, however with gunsight you should just set it to suit the wingspan of your target aircraft at a certain distance, then that distance when the reticle encompasses the enemy that is the distance for your convergence... uh I think..

As a rough estimate to convert from Yards to Metres add a third again and from Metres to yards subtract
|
Quote:
Range in game is in yards Wingspan in game is in feet For 150 yards, enter 136 / 136 in the convergence settings (136m = 150yards), then in game set your gunsight to 150 yards (range). Wingspan 32ft for 109 and adjust to whatever you will encounter. |

A third? A yard is over 90% of a metre, not 66% |
1 yd = 0.9144 m

I believe all measurements in the sim are in metres: Plane convergence settings, icon distance, dotrange etc.
The only time its different is in RAF aircraft where gunsights are set in yards (could also affect RAF bombsights, not sure). Decide on your preferred shooting range, say 200yds. This converts to 183 metres which is what you set in the Plane Gunsight convergence. In the Hurri or Spitfire cockpit set the gunsight range to 200yds. Don't forget to set the wingspan too, default is 30 feet (Me 109 is 32 feet - I think all wingspans are in the manual). EDIT: ooops I missed Robo's post. Same story. |

Is it possible that the German planes is in feet?...I don't think you can save a value below 100, whatever 100 is:confused:...you see I would like to set to 70M |

If you are setting range to 70m then just get right in close, fill the circle (Bf109), squeeze the trigger and close your eyes :) |
Sorry for this noob question , but where do you set your convergence and wing span ingame?
I figured out how to set the gun sight though... |
Convergence is in the plane setup menu, with gun belting.
Wingspan is a setting of the gunsight, you must do it while in the cockpit, by playing with the knobs below the reflector gunsight. Cheers, Ins |
Ok! Thanks Insuber

From early days I wrote down on a post it note the wingspan measurements of the enemy aircraft in COD and stuck it on my monitor.
It surprising how quickly you remember these measurements when looking at them everyday. But it was also reasuring having them there to act as an aid memoir. As regards convergence, whilst being interview a few years ago Pete Brothers from 32 Sqn said that he would have his convergence set at 50 yards which is an amazingly short distance. He said that he would make surprise attacks, get right up close and then blast away, having to do this to make up for the poor knock down power of the .303 rifle round that made up the Brit ammo in his Hurri. The Brit RAF command did not like this idea,in 1939 the std convergence was 400 yards, which obviously carried over into 1940.I think they allowed the aces to do as they pleased and would turn a blind eye to this practice. |
Initially it was a roughly rectangular pattern (I think about 4' x 4') at 400 yds to give 'the average pilot' a chance of hitting the target. It was later reduced to point harmonisation at 250yds.
I can't locate any official documents just now but this may help: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=v...rgence&f=false The ammo loadout is interesting but I know that changed quickly to include DeWilde incendiary when it became available. TBH my loadout does not include Ball, I use 4xAP, 2xTracer/Incendiary and 2xDeWilde and I imagine that may have been frowned on, possibly even due to cost. |
You can't set it lower than 100m in game anyway, so I set 136 and close the sight to 150yards.
|
Yeah.......you're right,I should have pointed this out,50 yards to us is pretty acedemic in COD.
|
Game restriction to 100m is not historically correct...bugtracker anyone:grin:
|
Agreed............surely it would'nt take much for the devs to correct this.
