My 1/24 Spitfire

No Patch..well here something that might interest some of you...

Well here's my 1/24 Scale Spitfire MkVb, the mount of Sergeant Edward Jaworski No 315 Polish Squadron AF, Northolt, October 1941, it has just arrived back from a difficult and 'sticky' sortie having sustained battle damage around the front cockpit area, and is under going some extensive service work on the guns.

Everything as normal has been airbrushed including all lettering and insignia....Enjoy...Hmmm ..what shall I make next..

Very nice mate..made a few models myself of a Spit n 109..they take great place on my mantel piece along side a poppy and an old coin from the era..

But they are not anything like yours..

~S~

Fjordmonkey 03-16-2012 05:44 PM

Very very nice! Like the weathering and the details on it.

How about a 1/24 109? :D I had an Airfix-set of those many years ago.

ATAG_Dutch 03-16-2012 05:47 PM

That's very nice mate.

Is it a Trumpeter Kit or Airfix? Much in the way of brass/resin additions?

BP_Tailspin 03-16-2012 05:55 PM

WOW

Fantastic!

Kupsised 03-16-2012 06:00 PM

Ahhh that looks spot on, brilliant work! That paint job is just perfect.

I love large scale myself, spend most of my time on 1:32 because of the limited selection of 1:24th, but me and my brother built up a 1:24th Mosquito last summer as a sort of nostalgia trip for when we used to do it as kids. It makes for a beast of a model, but it has yet to be painted since neither of us have the time.

EDIT: As asked before though, Trumpeter or Airfix? I've had half an eye on the airfix one for a while but have heard a fair few bad things about it. I'm not one for hacking and slashing too much so if it's too much work I'll wait until I'm a bit better at it I think

TomcatViP 03-16-2012 06:04 PM

Impressive work !

...but what octane grade in her tank?

Did post it on here but can't find it, here one I did earlier a 109E

ATAG thi is a Trumpeter model.

try to stay away from the 30 year old Airfix kit unless you want to wrestle with it.

This has been built out of the box with a couple of add ons, Resin seat and additional seat belts. (did not use decal sheet as everything has been airbrushed)

smink1701 03-16-2012 08:02 PM

You Sir are an arteest!!!

bw_wolverine 03-17-2012 12:13 AM

Very nice. I particularly like the cockpit and the straps. Beautiful work.

Katana1000S 03-17-2012 09:33 AM

Very nice indeed, thought it was the Trumpeter kit, did build the Airfix 1/24 Spit,109, Mustang, Hurricane, Stuka 190 and Harrier when they were released and now after recently returning to the hobby again have decided to concentrate on 1/32 for aircraft and have 3 or 4 under construction ... if you were wondering what 1/24 to build next how about the Airfix 1/24 Mosquito? this was released fairly recently and is apparently to a much higher standard than their original 1/24 super kits.

I'm hoping Tamiya's next 1/32 subject is the Mosquito, they already have merlin engines tooled for the recent Spitfire and Mustang and those were outstanding quality!

Bounder! 03-17-2012 11:11 AM

Very jealous of those models, really nice job on both, put my amateur efforts with 1:72 scale models to shame! If we don't already have a thread on the forum somewhere could we have one for discussing model aircraft posting pics etc? Would be p cool.

Why not make it this thread if the OP does not mind?

Nothing built to show yet, but here is a pic of my 1/32 (only) aircraft kit stash I've been building up the past year or so, have bought a good H & S airbrush and Sparmax compressor recently and have been practising my skills on an old Revell 1/32 Spitfire MK1, I've learned a lot on that old kit and am well into a 1/32 Trumpeter EE Lightning and 1/32 Revell Red Arrows Hawk that should be finished soon ...

My stash pics, all the Aircraft are 1/32 and there's probably about 2 grand or mores worth here, many have resin, photo etch, decals and other after market parts in the boxes ready to go for when I hit them.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...132stash-1.jpg

Some additions since that pic, this was my Christmas present to myself, an exception to my 1/32 Aircraft rule here, always wanted the Tamiya 1/350 aircraft carrier USS Enterprise ... amazing kit!

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...s/2011Xmas.jpg

Un pictured are a Trumpeter SU-27 and Trumpeter Swordfish both in 1/32 again and I've a Trumpeter 1/32 ME 262 on order, after that I wont be buying many more ... I need to get building and lord knows where I'll display them, many of them like the 1/32 HE 111 are massive.

:-P

Soooo many kits I want in amongst that lot. I love 1:32, I have a Revell Hunter on the go at the moment. It's the best kit I have ever built (and I've built the fabled 1:24 Mossie as well. The stories of a gapless fit were exaggerated, especially if you want to do it gear up), it falls together right out the box, so literally the only thing that lets it down is my clumsy paws :D I'd love to try the Trumpeter BAC Lightning though, and I've got my sights set on a Hawk as soon as I get back to the UK over the summer (I love Revell for 1:32, simply because they are ridiculously cheap for how good they are). Also, over where I am now there's a toy shop that's got the 1:32 Ju88 sat on a shelf. It's been there longer than I've been going there, the box is battered as hell (since it's a kids toy shop, who knows what they were thinking when they bought the Ju88 for that), and every time I go in there I just feel sorry for it. As soon as I have the cash I've told the missus I'm going to go and 'rescue' it, since I couldn't justify it any other way :P Still not sure she's convinced though :D

If I was that good at making scale models it would be the only thing I'd do on my spare time, beautiful just beautiful.

Go rescue that JU 88 :) Its a great kit and I've not had to buy many extra's for mine ... just canopy masks I think.

The recent Revell 1/32 kits are serious amazing value for money, I know I want their old 1/32 Hunter too now that you mention it ... damn you :) oh and they are bringing out a 1/32 Heinkel He 219 UHU this year too that I wont be able to resist!

Just went and snapped a couple of pics of my 1/32 in progress that I mentioned ... as you can see the Trumpeter 1/32 Lightning is big compared to a Hawk of the same scale and also of a Spitfire of the same scale too ... I like to stick to one scale for this reason ... to get an idea of scale of aircraft you would not normally see beside each other.

The Lightning is almost ready for primer now ... I've not sprayed over the canopy's, they are masked off, the Hawk is almost ready for primer too ... hate the red plastic to build with! Not too much filling or sanding on either of them compared to the spit. I also tried using silver foil on the nose of the Lightning for the first time too here.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w.../LightHawk.jpg

And last shot shows the old Revell Spitfire MK1 I mentioned, this is a really old and bad fitting kit and I wanted to practise on this with an airbrush and several other area's before starting my Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire master-kit ... the original decals were ruined, so just used some spares on this over Klear in ad hoc fasion ... I'll add a matt coat later and also try some more weathering effects, but my confidence is getting better with these big kits all the time.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w.../LightSpit.jpg

As you can see I build 1/12 Motorcycle kits too (hence my user name) and now 1/350 ships ... where will it end?

Happy Modelling

There's quite a few Hunters around on ebay from time to time (particularly the German ebay, if you can speak the language. I can't, but I can at least guess :P). I've got the FGR.9 at the moment, but I've really got my sights set on the F.6 they did some time ago, since I'd love to do one in the black arrows scheme (I'll probably do the Hawk all black too, it's a nice way to get around the red plastic, but it also looks extremely smart like that I think). One warning about the Hunter though if you find one, is you'll probably need an after-market pitot tube. Mine was snapped in half on the sprue in the box since it's extremely thin at the tip, but Hannants have a metal one that someone's done so I imagine it wasn't only me that had that problem.

Those kits look great though! Now I'm even more tempted to get that Lightning! (Although I will rescue the Ju88 first! :P) I agree with the old Revell point though. I got their old Typhoon (the Hawker kind, not the Eurofighter) and it's just naff in places. The undercarridge doors fall well short of covering the bays (although the fit is perfect, their just clearly not long enough by about an inch or so, though that's another one of my favourite things about Revell, that you can usually do them gear up without chopping away too much) and the plastic is terribly warped in places, particularly around the ailerons, probably because the mold was old when it was made. I only really got it to get used to painting the RAF Grey-Green in large scale though, so it's not a huge problem. Their newer kits are just awesome for the price though, nothing comes close really.

My madness goes into Motorcycles too in 1/12 and I've at least doubled this stash of to be built 1/12 Bike kits since that pic and started on at least two 1/6 scale Bike kits too :)

I'll go take a pic or two and be back shortly, cam batteries are low though.

Thanks for the tips mate, I know now more than ever I need a Revell 1/32 Hunter in my collection ... Tamiya or Trumpeter are not going to do it, might as well settle with the old but good Revell Kit.

Cheers.

I think even if they did, I think it still wouldn't be as good. Aside from the lack of an engine, everything is really spot on and the detailing on the outside is extremely crisp. Good luck finding one anyway, and happy modelling!

My more Motorcycling modelling stuff that I concentrate upon ... even over model Aircraft these days ... I'm a Biker at heart.

PS: Everytime I got this pic upright my end, Photobucket turned it round again ... if i put it sideways it would put it sideways 180 degrees

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...Bikessofar.jpg

And the two 1/6 scale Big Bike kits from Tamiya I recently bought ... I owned a real Suzuki Katana 1000/1100 in the early 80's in the prime of my life, raced it too ... hence my name.

Thank 'you' mate.. you've brought a nice bit of light to this forum..I don't think there is anyone who is into flight sims that doesn't appreciate model making..

I for one dont mind any type either..Bikes just happen to be my other hobby :)

I've got 3 or 4 Tamiya 1/12 Ducati kits in my latest stash with two built in the sideways pic I posted .... the Fogarty # 1 Duc Superbike in that pic is actually a Minichamps metal model I bought from Ebay because I wanted to see what they were like (they are expensive) but it is very nice indeed, would not mind a couple of other Minichamp die cast Bikes like the 86 GSXR750 that's coming out (owned a real one of those too) and Honda CBX1000 six, you cant get construction kits of certain bikes and Minichamps can fill the gap, they do nice F1 car stuff too apparently.

Nothing new to show scale model wise but have made good progress on my 1/6 Suzuki Katana and CB1100R kits lately, Hope to finish the 1/32 Hawk and Lightning soon too.

PS: Just wanted to say, building the two Tamiya 1/6 Bike kits side by side is a real pleasure, they are actually quite old kits and some of the newer Tamiya kits of all genres is absolutely stunning engineering, but these two bikes in 1/6 ... the real thing is just 6 times bigger are just a joy to build, they go together pretty much like the real thing did too construction and assembly wise for parts, once I finish these I'm going to get the Tamiya 1/6 Kawasaki Z1300 six too, nought else in the 1/6 Tamiya Motorcycle range takes my fancy ... I wish they would do another bike in this scale again with their newer hi finesse moulding style ... imagine a new tooled Tamiya 1/6 Rossi GP12 Ducati (yeh I know he's not doing too well on it) or Lorenzo/Spies M1 in this scale, or even some of the great street bikes we have now like a Ducati Diaval ... I can dream :)
