Friday Update, March 2, 2012

5 Attachment(s)
Morning everyone!

As everyone is worried about the development progress, a few words about that first.

You will see the beta graphics patch very shortly. I know you’ve been waiting for it forever. We’re working on it non-stop, and what can I say, it can only be ready when it’s ready. We’re not working on an externally set schedule, so we can sit down and do things right rather than rushing them out to meet a deadline.
I want to apologize to everybody for it taking so long. But I’d rather apologize for this than for releasing things quickly and for it to be of inferior quality.

Now with that out of the way, let’s continue looking at more project for the upcoming sequel. It’s the good old Il-2 we’ve already shown before, but you’ll get a quick glimpse at some progress with the still WIP fall landscape.
The colors, trees and grass is precisely what we’re working on this very second, and it’s just as obvious to us as well as you that this version is not yet perfect.

Have a good weekend!

Tree_UK 03-02-2012 07:53 AM

Thank you for the update Blacksix, I was rather hoping for some questions answered though rather than these pics. I would imagine that the team would know by now if the CTD (memory leak) as been fixed and would be grateful if you could get Luthier to confirm this, it's currently the one thing that is stopping many of us being able to use your product one year after release.

The part is red is condescending drivel (nonsense) - you know better. Everyone knows what you are doing.

Richie 03-02-2012 07:54 AM

Nice flowers

Who parked the il2 in image 5?

_RAAF_Smouch 03-02-2012 07:56 AM

Prevyet and ~S~

Thanks for the update mate,

Have it ready when it's ready I say.

The screenies look great!!

Strike 03-02-2012 07:57 AM

Thank you very much for update! Looks good!

Very excited about the upcoming patch and future expansion.

I should also let you know that I agree with Tree about the memory leak launcher.exe crash. I would be playing the game a lot more often (speaking for at least 3-4 of my friends too) if I wasn't kicked out to desktop every so often. It's quite frequent but mostly in MP. Very rare SP crash.

Either way, looks like the future is brighter and brighter!

Carry on :)

335th_GRAthos 03-02-2012 07:57 AM

Thank you for the acknowlegement that 1C is aware that our patience has limits BlackSix.

Looking forward to see some deliverables, sooner than later.

Next month we close one year since the release of the game I think. It is about time you delivered something that is worthy of its predecessor (IL2).

Nice week end,

~S~

moilami 03-02-2012 07:59 AM

Man...that flying zetor is just too awesome :)

Think I'll convert to IL-2 pilot. I want to take-off from a potato field :D

Tree_UK 03-02-2012 08:02 AM

Hi BlackSix, just in case you missed it here is a link to some of the questions we would like Luthier to answer.

http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=30111

41Sqn_Banks 03-02-2012 08:03 AM

The graphics patch will solve this memory leak. Luthier mentioned some month ago that the reworked graphic engine doesn't suffer from it.

Of course there patch could introduce a new memory leak ;)

Brainless 03-02-2012 08:05 AM

I think that memory leak is related to old(current) graphics engine. It will not be presented in the new engine, at least will not be the same.
Even there is memory leaks in the new graphics engine, it will be easier to catch them, as the engine is better coded.

Well, thanks for the update B6, I really appreciate it...still *sigh*. Nice screens of the IL-2, looking forward to some cockpit screens later on.

Appreciate the update B6. I have a good feeling about this ...

Osprey 03-02-2012 08:16 AM

I agree with Tree, although it is the question ask I don't agree with.

Great news regarding the upcomming patch!

A comment regarding the autumn landscape. I think the colour of the trees should vary much more. In a real autumn forest trees differ quite a lot i colour. Such change would make the landscape more live.

B6 Update

Thanks B6, look forward to your weekly update. The il-2 and the updated ground vehicle work should make the next release a real hoot!

carguy_ 03-02-2012 08:42 AM

Thank you for the update, Black Six. I understand you may not have much to give us today, but maybe we can get our prise ina few days, huh? Nonetheless, it is always appreciated.

Yes, go ahead and take your time. Rushing thinga will just make it worse. But maybe you can give us the beta so we can help you on the bug report?

Perhaps this is the last update with screenshots from the sequel.
We need to leave something on the announcement of a new project and updates thereafter.

Yes, we'll give the beta when it is ready and you can help us in finding errors.

No145_Bunny 03-02-2012 09:00 AM

Just goes to show how resigned some of us are, when all we can discuss in a development update thread (for a world renowned combat flight sim title) is how good / bad the flowers and the trees are!

God im so depressed :(

In fact I cant really be bothered posting any more so Im not going to.

nearly a year of waiting...................

RCAF_FB_Orville 03-02-2012 09:13 AM

Thanks for update. BlackSix, I'll agree with Osprey that it would be great if you could please give further info on these questions originally posted by Furbs, specifically in relation to Cliffs of Dover. :)

1) Will the patch fix the CTD(MEM leak) *EDIT: *Ok, noted that Luthier said the problem is no longer present in new graphics engine.*

2) What changes in the FM will we see in the patch?

3) What improvements can we expect in the AI?

4) Have the radio commands been worked on and fixed?

6) Distant LoD model visibility fixed for aircraft and ground objects?

7) How close are the server docs and SDK away from release?

8 ) Has Luthier looked again at the issue of COOPs?

9) Will the FPS boost allow FSAA to be addressed and improved?[/I]

Seeing WIP's of a sequel is nice, and thanks kindly. I think most people however probably come to the 'Cliffs of Dover' forum for info specifically related to 'Cliffs of Dover' itself. This might include things like progress made on FM revisions both blue and red, correct performance data, correct ceilings and systems bugs ironed out etc. Could we please have some info about progress or changes made on this? Thanks.

I realise that development of the sequel will of course have an effect upon CoD itself if one buys it and it is merged (dynamic weather and whatever else) and this is duly noted and understood. Its just that many people like myself are more concerned about CoD specifically.....regardless of whether we buy the sequel or not.

In particular, you mentioned a while back that Luthier was 'taking a look at' the issue of 100 octane fuel in RAF aircraft (of which there is an avalanche of primary source, corroborated evidence proving that it was indeed in widespread use by the RAF in the Battle of Britain.) Could you tell us if this is to be included in the sim? An option for fuel type would be great too....Ideally in the future.

My questions are of course related to CoD because this is obviously all I and others have on our computers at present, and this is the Cliffs of Dover forum, but the screenshots of the IL-2 are appreciated. I will certainly consider buying it once CoD's problems are resolved (which I'm confident 1c are hard at work on), and would love to hear about progress to this end.

Thanks very much. :)

Thanks for the update and let's hope no new bugs or features stall release of the beta patch. Have a nice weekend.

And i like the words "shortly".

I don't know about that man, remember last weeks video when they showed the new potential feature that may or may not make it in to the game(s)? It said "coming soon" right at the end of that clip. If "coming soon" means it's gonna be in the BoM expansion then "shortly" would probably mean the patch will be out in a few months or something.:)

ChrisDNT 03-02-2012 09:31 AM

As the sequel will happen in Russia, I DO HOPE that the landscape in the sim, including the colors, will look like Russia.

furbs 03-02-2012 09:39 AM

Slighty worried about the wording "beta graphics patch" i hope that doesnt mean there will be no other fixes?

As far as I understood B6's post, it means only graphic/performance in the beta but other fixes/features in later beta/final patch(es). I get that they are trying to prioritize the most pressing issues, which are CTD and performance.

furbs 03-02-2012 09:47 AM

Hope your right addman.

Thanks B6, good to know.

Do those pictures look anti-aliased to anyone else?

Nice update, pity it seems like a bit of a fob-off in that no questions were answered and it says pretty much exactly what the others said. Only difference is that "We're working on it and it will be ready in a few weeks" has now changed to "very shortly", which, as we all know could be another "few weeks" :P

Thanks for taking the time though, looking forward to playing CloD with friends again :)

Well, the man is around, we can ask him instead of guessing among ourselves ;)
That's the way i understood it as well, but it doesn't harm to ask B6 for clarification.

Just to get things straight now that the thread is on its first pages:
If i see the usual tit-for-tat arguments, troll-bait and unrelated, off-topic stuff that usually goes on for 40 pages, the thread will be temporarily locked for clean up and infractions issued, no matter if the offending posters are supporters or detractors of the sim.

What we do in this thread:
1) Ask questions to BlackSix about the sequel

2) Ask questions to Blacksix about the upcoming patch: new graphics, sounds, the kind of bugs fixed.

3) Answer questions of other members IF we are sure we know the answer. Links are not mandatory but they are good to have, otherwise just say "i'm not sure, but i remember reading that...", etc etc.

What we don't do in this thread:
1) Assume we know the answers to questions when we don't, and post them to further our own agenda (eg "i'm sure they will fix the sim" or "i'm sure they can't fix the sim", or "this is what happened during development and it's that person's fault").

2) Ask unrelated questions or argue about other subjects that don't concern the expansion or the patch (eg, asking about 100 octane is fine, getting into a debate about it is not). This includes the current message. For separate topics users can and should start separate threads, plus we will help them to keep them on topic if they request our help.

3) Get obsessed about proving each other wrong, getting in a forum fight and insulting each other (no examples needed really, we're all too familiar with it already).

In general it's a question and answer thread, not a guess and speculation thread or a bait and switch, point and laugh thread. Let's stick to the topic please.

Thank you.

Ibis 03-02-2012 10:22 AM

Accept the crumbs so thoughtfully brushed from the table.
It's of no consequence that I bought three copies of his sermon a year ago and still can't play because of ctds.
I'll continue to sit quietly at the feet of the messier until the smoke arises from the chimney proclaiming that his work is done. Then and only then will I be able to rise into the heavens and smite the evil doers.
Hallelujah, I see the light a coming.

Thanks BlackSix!

I understand the impatience of those but I'm confident that Luthier & his team are doing the bestthat they can and are making headway all the time.

I'm starting to "fly" the sim again, after putting it aside for a few months, and I must say, I'm totally amazed at what we have already - the graphics, the cockpits etc etc - this is a masterpiece in the making!!

OK...after being told about a lot of fixes on the way with the new patch, sound, FM, AI...now it is being described as a graphics patch??? Please elaborate on what will be included.

Mod Edit: All fine up to this point, it's a valid question. The rest is edited for speculation and trolling.

BlackSix, you tease...:)....why do the announcements usually leave me more frustrated for information and detail than before I was told? So there will be a new project of some kind - a pre-sequel new project or a post-sequel new project? Assuming it won't be another theatre - not that kind of project? SDK?

Think I've definitely done it there with the 'speculation' thing BlackDog :-|, but sorry, can't help it. Info is so cryptic at times that the only response is a whole bag of new questions.

i don't care of il-2 plane...
ok dev come from russia, it's legits to make russian plane...
but for memory : Cliffsofdover bought from russia : 7$
cliffsofdover european collector : 70$

if you aim russian customer, good luck...
but european customer whose bought the collector ( as myself ) want a cliffsofdover playable and without bug or feature desactivated...

i prefere seeing a log of bug corrected than a yellow tree
and some patch-fix of FM like wheelbreak of Ju-87B-2
some feature like leaving cockpit when you sea-landing
and all the bug who exist since the release...

Mod Edit: Please keep on topic (questions about the next patch and the sequel). If you want to discuss something else you can start a new thread. Thank you.

"[QUOTE=BlackSix;395812]Morning everyone!

But I’d rather apologize for this than for releasing things quickly and for it to be of inferior quality."

Not working on a schedule?...well you lucky as so many of us do!!!... so we can earn some money! You have had some of them and not delivered! One year after release you cannot issue even a readme so we can see what are your objectives! Ready when is ready is not good enough, you have had allready plenty of time to fix this game so far!

ATAG_Doc 03-02-2012 01:02 PM

Thanks BlackSix. You are doing a great job. It's always better to explain the price once than have to explain the quality over and over. Keep up the good work and have a great weekend.

"Very shortly."

Almost as promising as this sim.

Thanks for the pictures. I look forward to being able to play this very promising sim, have radio commands that work, accurate FMs and handling, etc., before we embark on the road to Moscow.

Couldnt care less about your sequel. Fiks Battle of britain. Personally I don't even like the il2 plane, looks ugly and its heavy and slow. Give me a Spitfire and I will be a happy man

Not working on an external schedule- i.e not working to ubisofts timetable, which is why the sim was released in the state it was.

They will have internal deadlines, within the studio. That was probably for this friday, something came up so rather than push out a buggy patch they have postponed it a few days. Or so I should have thought.

Mod Edit: Please stay on topic and refrain from following tangents started by other users. Thank you.

il_corleone 03-02-2012 01:34 PM

Thanks for the update but, thanks what? ok its hard work to do the il2, but, i will thanked more a update focused on the upcoming engine, rather on an expansion we need to buy, my opinion but, devs, can you listen to the people on the forums? we will be more nervous if you dont answer important questions for all of us, i know its a hard work, but we paid for you to listen to us and playing your fantastic game, we need deep info for the next engine, becose its the most importat thing for most of us, later the ai and other implements but now the engine, the houses starts on the floor, not the roof ,Manu

Mod Edit: Please read the information again and you will see that what you need is answered. The next patch will have at least one beta part: first comes the graphics beta, then the rest will either be released on the final patch or they will have their own beta versions. The sequel is a different thing completely.

kestrel79 03-02-2012 01:35 PM

Well looks like I'll be the only one asking a question about the actual update. What is Fall in Russia like? Do they only have mainly 1 type of tree that produces yellow/gold leaves? I know it's WIP but I'm used to seeing yellow, orange, red, and even green leaves in Autumn here in Wisconsin. Just wanting to know if it's different in Russia.

Looks ugly??? P-51 looks ugly, but two seats il2 looks ideal powerful war machine, as to my opinion. If you like only fighters you should not say a bad review about what you do not understand.

melasuda 03-02-2012 01:56 PM

Thanks by the update.

just saying that many pilots no buy it and no play it by the launcher errors.

If you solvent error, a lot of people buy the sim.

sorry for my englis

BlackSix, one question on the IL2, will the planes continue to have the same interactivity in the cockpits, I love switches and levers :)

So now you gonna tell me what I think looks ugly? Are you stupid?
I never say I only like fighters, I said that I think the Il2 plane looks ugly. By design that is, as the same I think the Hurricane looks ugly. The spitfire I think look beautiful by design and sound.
Got a problem with that?

Mod Edit: Keep your aggressiveness down, or it's you who's going to have a problem. You posted your opinion, he posted his opinion and now you are trying to tell him that he can't do it and call names on top of that? Plus both of you are off topic. Be serious and adjust your attitude to something more respectful of the other forum members, otherwise i'm going to "adjust" your posting privileges. Enough said.

Thank you.

It's a Q&A thread. People ask and answer questions about the update content (next patch and sequel).

On the next thread clean-up the off-topic posts will simply be deleted without warning. Next round is issuing warnings and final round is infractions for off topic posting. Let's not go there.

Please everyone, maintain the original scope of the thread by your own powers, or i'll have to do it with the power of the forum tools. Thanks for your cooperation, at least those of you that cooperate.

So MG should do all modifications of spitfire now, because you think that it's most beautiful plane?
I said what i think about p-51, because i dont understand why you talk about your opinion if it might offend other people.

Mod Edit: If another user attacks you, report his post and we'll take care of it. Don't keep doing the same thing and dragging the entire thread off topic. Thank you.

What about new graphic? It's related "only" to the FPS improvement or also to the water, sky, clouds, landscape ecc. ecc..?

Thank for your time and the update.

secretone 03-02-2012 02:38 PM

I appreciate the update very much.

I like the screenshots of the IL-2. I am looking forward to seeing more of it.

I recently looked at photos from a trip my father did on the trans-Siberian railway and was surprised that it was the same landscape for days with the same birch trees, with the same color of their autumn leaves. Looked like a railroad miniature landscape... Maybe they are not that off, even though I agree it's a lot more varied here in southern Sweden...

Great stuff for the First Aniversary or so!
I really am looking forward to the long awaited patch & will buy the Battle of Moscow ( or whatever it will be called ) in a drop-dead second!

Thanks for the nice pics blacksix, looking forward to the sequel.

Great to hear the patch is near. Keep up the good work.

First - Thank you very much for developing and continuing to work on what will soon be the best WW2 Flight simulation. I very much APPRECIATE it! :)

Question - So this patch will fix the beta release clod and we will no longer ctd ect when flying in formations in multiplayer? Is it more of a server code issue or was it all a graphics memory leak issue? Everyone I have talked to experiences this we all reboot before flying and one by one everyone ctd's at some point, I think there is one lucky fellow out of 6-8 that does not. It doesnt matter what graphics settings are used it only helps in that it takes a little longer to ctd with the graphics turned way down.

Note I am not at all being negative, if this is resolved you will have a very large amount of happy people.

I will Preorder your expansion the second this is resolved.

And to the naysayers, stop.

Sutts 03-02-2012 03:27 PM

I have a question regarding future CEM improvements please.....

Would you please ask Luthier if the team are planning to implement a more realistic engine temperature model where operating temperature is dependent on:

altitude (colder air at altitude = cooler)
airspeed (more air through radiator = cooler)
radiator obstructions (like lowered landing gear leg on spit)
mixture (richer mixture = cooler)
boost (lower boost = cooler)
rpm (lower rpm = cooler) WE HAVE THIS ONE

Also radiator flap setting should affect speed and yaw.

Some interesting notes from Spit II manual:

The coolant temperature is controlled by a thermostatic control (automatic) and a radiator flap which regulates the flow of air through the radiator, but which cannot be fully closed. The position of the radiator flap affects the lateral trim of the aircraft (the radiator being under the starboard wing) and can usually be kept in the closed position during cruising flight.

ACTIONS AFTER TAKE-OFF
Close the radiator shutter (unless a high power climb is done, when the lever should be a little forward).

Thank you

What on earth are you talking about?
First, this thread is called IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of dover. So when they come with their usual Friday update, I expect to hear only of that and not hear about their sequel. They should make or post it in their sequel thread, if they have not such a thread they should make one.
I never said anything about MG doing all modifications of the spitfire, that is your words, so don't put what is flying inside your head and make it sound like I said it.
So what if you think the P-51 is ugly?`I couldnt care less what you like or not, and the same should you. Personal opinions are....yeah; Personal!
If my opinion OFFENDS someone, well let them be offended! Why should I care if my opinion offends someone? Let them be offended then. There is no crime being offended.

Core blimey, is that what CloD looks like with all the "bells and whistles" turned on. With my PC settings it looks like a case of, "Should have gone to Specsavers". I must have missed the memory leak bit from Luthier. I take it that the memory leak bit is the Launcher exe problem? Never the less, onward and upwards Moriarty, maybe I'll get a bonus present for my birthday next week!!!
