The virtual cockpit thread
Go on then, lets see your virtual 'pit!
I'll start it off, with my new (pre owned) CH yoke, together with a Saitek throttle quad, and TiR3 vector, and off camera CH pedals and CH Fighterstick, and a 32" LED TV. The JU88 is fantastic with a yoke! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Uther/yoke.jpg |

Seriously impressive mate, but my wife would kill me lol
|
I have long used a yoke to play IL2 with bombers, creates a very good experience and more realistic
for lack of space in my room I made a specific table, where it enters all I need x52 saitek yoke saitek cuadrant saitek Pedals saitek switch panel saitek trackir5 dolby 5.1 simulation RC & grij com box by aty2 ( and a communications box speak3 team, created by me, for me and my friends grij ) http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/8965/dscf1133h.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AsxhacKZl0 |

Good Thread!
Especially the idea of bolox with the longer stick would be perfect for my x45 as it`s always hell of work in long dogfights (ok, my "dogfights" are not soooo long atm ;-)) to move it! http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/attachm...1&d=1330180565 Hope it works with the picture.... |
How do you manage to fly with two control units? (yoke and joystik)
Can you configure it in a way, that you can use your stick for fighters and the yoke for bombers? Or do you have to unplug the one you dont want to use right now? What about the axis controls in the game?! Im so confused   |

ideally you'd need a 180+degree display of some kind |
Very very cool, looking at all those wires you had to deal with on the KG13/Warthog adaptation I am glad I decided on a different route.
Good job :D |

Simple Set Up - Stand Alone Flight Chair
3 Attachment(s)
I do not use a desk so I needed a solution to have everything at a chair 7 feet from the 52" screen. The Warthog throttle is heavy so The (MOBO) pads for the HOTAS are beefed up with brackets at the hinges (pads are designed to fold back) and custom aluminum braces for the main pad. I removed the base plate from the Joystick and mounted it directly to the MOBO pad which is thick ABS plastic. Added additional brackets to the MOBO mounting at the arms for Stability. It is solid.
I plug the Stick and Throttle into the two USBs on the Merc Stealth Keyboard. So there is only one wire running to the chair for the keyboard. TrackIR is wireless. The headphones and mouse are also wireless. The Mouse pad swivels 270 degrees and was rescued from a recycle bin. The MOBO comes with a keyboard tray. I rest it on the arms of the second chair, so it is just to my left and easy reach from the throttle. With clickable cockpits and the TM Warthog, you don't need the keyboard much. The XZIPIT chair was on sale so I got two for one. The power cord at the chair base powers the chair which has two speakers and a subwoofer. It also vibrates with Bass. The chair receives it's sound wirelessly. This Chair is not really as comfortable as it looks, So I added a nice butt pad cushion. The Headroll comes in handy after hours of Flying and you still have a few hours to go. This is definitely not a chair for anyone over 5' 11". |

My first project
5 Attachment(s)
Here is my first little project, done with electronics of game-pad. Has this was to offer some friend of mine i didnt bother to mutch (the guy is only paying the new stuff i purchased). Yes, i know Leo Bodnar boards, but, as i wasnt be payed for the board i got this one of a game pad. The set looks a little flatt, and i think i abused a little on the LED`s. Throttle as a limit 100-110, made of a door locker of a closet(2 spheres 2mm apart), very usefull for IL2. Thanks for any coments.
Both buttons on the throttle handle are working fine, the wires were soldered to a tape of wires from a printer machine(those that look like a piece of paper). Both lever axis have Hall efect sensors, the other two have potentiometers). |
So, almost a month and not a single coment? Is the thing so much crapp? At least a coment with the faults and defects!!

That guys 109 homepit is quite something! he's got the angle of the front windscreen rake slightly wrong though I think
BTW: was just surfing on Ebay UK and someone is selling a Saitek AV8R-01 modded to a Spitfire spade grip, looks like he's used a motorcycle clutch lever as the brake lever I think. might be fun for someone interested here? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Spitfire-S...item3f17311e21 Check it out. EDIT: this auction runs out in just over 3 hours at time of typing, so if you want it be quick, and no I'm not the seller, was thinking of bidding for it too for the novelty value though. |
My Home Cockpit
This is my black home cockpit, all controls are ergonomic in use. The leather seat is from IKEA and ideal for simming, because it has no rollers and it`s tubular steel frame ensures perfect feedback for the mounted "Buttkicker Gamer"-Clamp. My cockpit installation is designed for nighttime-use, even map navigation at night without screen reflections is possible.
http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/319...ightdesign.jpg The "cockpit" is tight as a real warbirds one. In this picture you can see my modified combat pedals: http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/1848/homepit.jpg Some more detail photos: http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/1...pitdetails.jpg http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/1...itdetails2.jpg http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/8...igationmap.jpg |

Thats very impressive, might look for that seat on Ikea I'm in need of a new one and own a Buttkicker too.
Here's my gear, added a Saitek trim wheel since these pics and took delivery of a Trackir 5 with trackclip pro yesterday ... awesome, don't know why I left it so long. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...os/GPSSim1.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...okenpanels.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w.../VRIGPS5_1.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...TMHOGdesk1.jpg |
There's some very impressive stuff here...I think I may stay single forever if I attempted to make one for myself before finding the right person but I'm impressed nonetheless ;)
I've just started getting into the DCS A-10C sim...and that has made me want a proper replica...I'm getting ideas way above my station there...but I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment and too much imagination and 0 skill! lol. I did however have a bit of a play on a simpit at the Helicopter museum near Bristol a couple of weeks ago. It had a wrap around screen and custom made helicopter controls, which were for sale. It was very impressive, I felt quite dizzy when I got off it but if I had the space and the money I'd buy a version for IL2! Who's with me on a Post Office smash and grab? ;) |

I replaced the hall effect sensors on the X & Y axii with pots. The are the two red knobs. The blue knob s the Z opt removed from it's spring loaded casing. See picture below for wiring. What a great thread!
Hats off to the talented people here. The BF 109 cockpit especially was jaw-dropping. |

Hi all,
just one more detail: the modified ol'cyborg EVO Joystick. I put a double CD on the throttle-axis, here it is, a realy good working trimwheel. This JS allows also to handle other functions e.g. lowering undercarriage, emergency-system... One of the realy good things to say about Clod is the functionality and compatibilit of the yinterface to hardware-envirement, the only ingame thing which has never given problems to me. Thx to all here in the thread, mindblowing stuff in here! |

A great LITTLE Keyboard
My home sim pales in comparison to the creative masterpieces in this thread, but I have solved my big bulky keyboard problem. I wanted to Velcro my big keyboard to the base of my Dell 30" monitor, but it required the monitor to be 2" farther away from my face due to "between the knees" control stick interference. This of course, causes a reduced apparent screen size. Like all things, closer looks bigger. I use reading glasses to sharpen the focus.
The keyboard is a Rosewill RIKB-11001 X-Slim Keyboard with Low Profile Chiclet Keycap Design, available for $9.99 (US) at a popular online merchant. This thing is a full size USB 104 key board mounted in he smallest conceivable package. It velcro's perfectly on the base of my Dell U3011 monitor and except for no internal key lighting is perfect for flight sim management. My big, wireless keyboard continues to work at the same time so no convenience is lost. It's a real win-win combination. |
My virtual cockpit
Here is my cockpit. I decided on a more universal approach as I play space combat sims like Freespace 2 Open and soon to be Star Citizen as well as some racing. I used a button template overlay system to change labels quickly between sims. It is a work in progress but almost finished.
