A great way to make an ugly plane out of a beautiful one, as has already been shown here in some cases, is to stick radar in the nose, or to make it two seater. I could post many two-seaters here (Sea Fury, Spitfire and Hunter to name but a few) that are still quite pretty, but no where near as pretty as their single seater originals.

Its and XP-47H
http://www.vectorsite.net/avp47_07.png

Which had a Chrysler XI-2220-11 water-cooled inline 16-cylinder inverted vee engine

The follow up being the XP-72 aka Super Thunderbolt
http://www.vectorsite.net/avp47_09.png

Which had a air cooled PW R-4360 that had 28 cylinders

I guess simplicity wasn't priority when designing that abomination, does for a great laundry hanger though.

2.3 meter (7 ft 7 in) at the thickest point. The plan was to place passenger seating within the wings.

The prototype flew 6 or 7 times before crashing. Their were later claims of sabotage but the more likely cause was structural failure due to an unresolved issue with harmonic vibration in the tail booms.

Wouldn't it be too noisy for the passengers to sit inside the wings? Or did the designers want to stuff the wings with isolation material? ;)
