Just reinstalled: WOW!
I removed CoD from my PC a few months back. It didn't look great or run great and I needed the HDD space.
I just reinstalled today to see how the patches were coming along..... And all I can say is WOW!! The landscape. The sounds. It looks and sounds so much better the change is incredible! I still have performance issues.... But I think they're more down to my PC now than anything in the sim (old PC, running Win XP 32-bit. Can't afford to upgrade). Although I still can't fly over London (lack of RAM on the part of my PC I'd guess..... FPS will suddenly drop then CoD freezes and crashes), I can now tweak the GFX setting so that flying anywhere else is smooth as silk. It looks better. It sounds better.... And most of all it "feels" better than it did. Ilya and the team have dome great things so far with CoD. Compared to what it was at release it's a whole new game!! Very happy (...... You may have noticed!! :) ) Edit: Meant to ask: One minor thing that is a little bothersone is that the area under my plane (square in shape) is outlined with a thin black border. I'm guessing it may be the boundary where LOD levels change since the square gets smaller the higher I climb. I'm running an nVidia GTX260 768MB GFX card with up to date drivers (as far as I know!). Has anyone else had this problem and if so have they found a cure for it? |
welcome back!

Heya Jester.
Hook me up on Steam friends... been a while. I fly pretty regularily with a few other guys on ATAG so if you want to hook up in MP keep a look out for me. d0o0m |

Thanks Ataros, I'll look into that.
Hey d0o0m. Nice to see you mate!! I won't be online most likely. My back still keeps me from being able to sit infront of the PC for long enough for an online session..... Still need that offline pause function I'm afraid! If I do get online at some stage though, I'll give you a shout (time zones permitting!!) |
I reinstalled aswell, yestarday . still a slideshow for me . lucky to get 1 frame a second at times :( But i wont moan i only paid £8 ,so ill try again in a couple of months .... The reason is mainly my fault . i will only play the game if it looks better than modded il2 so refuse to play low graphics . So back to IL2 for me
Edit ::: I know its my GPU before anybody tells me .;) |
tanker 21, looking at the system specs in your sig, I'm not sure why it's so bad for you. To compare my rig is as follows:
AMD x2 240 @2.8GHz nVidia GTX260 896MB 2GB Corsair DDR RAM On board sound (AC97) Windows XP Pro 32-Bit Whilst I am running at medium/low settings and can't go near London (Freeze then crash most likely due to lack of RAM) I get very smooth gameplay over any other area of the map. |

Setting up a custom profile in radeon pro helps quite a bit. |

Look for me on steam and I'd be happy to fly with you for a quick sortie. |
I just disabled the intro movie and its a lot better , still only running on 1 gpu though.
But asOverclokers have some 7970 due in next week, verry small amount and could be nearly £500 . And i havnt brought a new card in years i am going to bite the bullit and get one . then hopfully just max everything and fogett ... |
S!
Tanker, make sure to give the 12.1 preview drivers a run, they work for me very nicely. |
Sounds good, tanker. I'd love to upgrade (and install Windows 7) but it's simply not an option for me now (or in the foreseeable future). Hope the upgrade goes well.

Still getting what appear to be tile borderlines on the ground or water (see screenshots below). I've tried all performance settings (High quality down to high performance) and the lines remain no matter what. Anyone got any ideas about what may be causing them and (if possible) how to get rid of them? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...217_115923.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...217_120308.jpg |
i have these sqare lines only if i have set land detail to medium or low...with high they should disappear.
|
Thanks for the reply. I'll give that a try and see what happens.
If that is the cause, I'll just have to live with them.... Land detail on high nearly kills my poor old PC!! EDIT: Just tried setting land detail to high and the lines remain, I'm afraid. Can anyone suggest any other potential causes? |
mh interesting...then maybe set the textures to high...if that still doesnt work, im afraid i cant help you any further.
|
Thanks for your help on this David. Unfortunately I've tried various GFX setting combinations (within the limits of my PC specs!) and the lines are still there.
I guess I'll have to wait for a newer nVidia driver to be replaced and hope that sorts it out. |
im sorry that this didnt work for you...but for performance reasons, i have to play with medium textures as well, and after some time, you'll somehow get used to the ugly lines.
|
I've max settings, but I get those ugly lines in white. The funny thing is that they appear only when banking the plane.
Cheers, Ins |
Just remember to clear the cache after each graphics change.

EDIT: Further to Robtek's advice I have emptied the cache (again!) and the ugly lines ARE GONE! Thank you Robtek! |
Are you referring to the cache folder in c:\My Doc\1c Softclub\....... ?
Do you empty out the entire folder or just the shaders folder? |
empty both or delete/trash the cache folder along with the shaders folder and just create a new folder - name it 'cache' and then create a new empty folder inside it and name it 'shaders'. Launch CloD - exit then re-launch.
|
I'll give that a try a little later. Thanks again SEE.
|
Just cleared out the cache as you suggested, SEE.
No joy I'm afraid. Those lines were still there. Gotta be a problem in either my install or my driver set up since others either don't see this or can get rid of them. Not sure what to try next. Would it be worth re-installing again? Or does it look more like a driver issue? |
I see those same lines, even though they are not as visible as in the pictures, just barely. I made a 1st install from Steam, so I don't think clearing cache should matter. So I'm using the latest official version, not beta.
|
The white lines issue is known to the devs. Its common certainly with Nvidia cards.
|
Sorry, Ivan: Just to confirm.... Are the black lines I'm seeing the same (or related to) the white lines the devs are aware of?
(I'm running an nVidia GTX260 895MB GFX card) |

btw I think 9800gtx is more powerful than the 260 and they are selling for $20-$30 with rebate so... |
Upgrading is not an option I have now (or for the foreseeable future). Not everyone has spare money you know.
As it is this "word processor" graphics dard runs medium high settings in every other game and sim I own and so it's not a major worry for me. If that's the cause of the lines, then I'll just have to learn to live with them. Apart from those, CoD looks fine and runs fine on medium settings. |
whats your steam ID jester?
|
159th_Jester.
I'm not too imaginative when it comes to usernames!!! :) |
