CloD is great!

Bought the game few days ago and gave it a try. At the current state and after installing a pair of performances mods, I have to say I absolutely LOVE the game. It runs pretty fine for me, but even just taking-off is amazing! I have 190hrs of play on Il-2 1946 but this game just gave me a completelely new feeling for WW2 sims. It's not perfect, sure, and I can't even imagine how bad it was 9 months ago. Though, the little details they carved into this product, the amount of new features, the engine management, the clickable cockpit, the antropomorphic control, the exploding tires, the damage model, the flight model, the ballistics (I find much harder bringing down planes now, but when I do I feel so satisfied) are at a completely new level. If really 1c will get out a 50% improvement on performances, this game, plus the mods that will come out, will be as legendary as its predecessor IMHO.

Indeed sir!

capt vertigo 11-10-2011 01:55 AM

Yep.

smink1701 11-10-2011 02:17 AM

When it's all sorted out it will be the new benchmark of flight sims.

Chivas 11-10-2011 02:56 AM

The sim definitely needs more positive posts like yours. I'm sure most of the silent majority have supported the sim by buying a copy, otherwise the development would have ended soon after the European release. The software is still in development and is a great base to build the next benchmark in WW2 aircombat simming.

SIDWULF 11-10-2011 04:08 AM

It sure is when you see the sim in its entirety because going back to IL2 1946 feels like an arcade classic. Never in the life of me would I think the flight model in IL2 1946 would feel so lacking and basic. But here i am thinking just that.

He111 11-10-2011 04:57 AM

minor bugs and limited aircraft but overall a beatiful game to play, loving the detail.

My wallet is aching for an update .. keeps moaning and groaning, hope there's some relief soon? ... LOL!

Upthair 11-10-2011 05:02 AM

Yes, of course it is.

another fanboy's thread... bleah.... disgusted

MadTommy 11-10-2011 07:07 AM

I agree OP, main thing it needs now is more people playing.

Can't say i agree with you... maybe a benchmark for a WWII sim, but its got a lot to do to even get close to RoF or the DCS series IMO, it is still a mile off the level these have set.

I just lately have figured out the meaning of fanboy.

It dosen't count in this case, look at the posts in this thread and other similar threads, people realizing just how good the game is.

It seems the community is generally happy with this game since the patches, the obvious comments and posts in other "Fanboy" threads are testament. Mabye it's because i joined after the patches. Who knows and who cares anymore I think COD is awesome!

Gourmand 11-10-2011 07:45 AM

it's great but not finish ;)
but you need to test more than few day ;)

you can create runway... but only the host see it !
you can put cow... but only the host see it !
you can make script, but trigger were disabled...
and a lot of bug/feature desactivate...

but yes it's great, just don't exagerate ;)
they are a lot of work and communication for dev ;)

robtek 11-10-2011 07:49 AM

Of course this is a "Fanboy" thread for some people.

The so called "Fanboys" always had envisioned the actual state, or better, for this sim.

I, for my part, had never closed my senses to the flaws and bugs that are still there now and i don't believe the other "Fanboys" have.

But, i know it is a great sim already now, and getting better with every patch.

addman 11-10-2011 08:04 AM

I'm a fanboy, this means I appreciate the game for what it is but also point out flaws until they are corrected. Since we don't get any specific feedback from luthier regularly I'll keep on reminding the developer of the things needed to be fixed. Sometimes I joke about it because, after all it's a game we are discussing, not the second coming of christ.

What performance mods did you use?

HT off, Ramdisk (no effect on me), game booster 3, tweaking settings in CCC (all performance settings On / all quality settings Off) and lowering in game settings to 2005 standards.

It worked for me in terms of acceptable fps... Of course I'm still suffering from CTD'S, stutters and massive RAM drains.

Regards.

CloD is great, well, more like it has great potentials. I'm sure that it will develop into a milestone of flight simulations. There's still some way to go, but it looks promising.

Let's see what I like about Clod:

Lighing effects are brilliant, be it plane reflections or a sunset over the channel.

I love how kills work - shouldershooting and kill stealing isn't a problem anymore because we have shared victories!

I love CEM and the complexity of the models.

I love the grass, the fact that we have short and long grass, I enjoy belly landing on a field :)

The new sounds are also very good. At realease sounds were the worst part of CloD but now they're awesome. If only they could be improved with some startup / shutdown sounds. Good job, devs!

I love how you can dress up your own pilot. I used to play the THPS series, and setting up my own skater was one of my favorite features - no I'm not gay :D - too bad that I still can't select the iconic Irvin jacket because it goes through the fuselage of the Spit.

Damage models - jaw dropping!

Built in weathering - brilliant idea, a pity that it doesn't work yet (/anymore :) )

Gun belting - would be an excellent feature if it worked properly.

...and the list goes on. There's a lot to love about this sim! Just keep up the hard work and everyone will be happy ;)

I've reported Albx last post.
His first post was only the usual trolling but this one is offensive.

Name calling is troll

Name calling is troll, personal attack... It will get you 2 week ban on this forums.

Civil discussion never requires name calling. When you resort to name calling it just means you have nothing worthwhile to contribute.

When any conversation or debate reaches a point where you want to name call that should be your warning to shut up and move on.

I'll leave this thread as is, for all to read. (as example)
Those who have name called must edit your postings.
If you leave them up or persist to name call you may not he happy with 2 week holiday from fourms.

robtek, i don't care what you do, he started to call names, for me his post is offensive like mine. You guys write here only to troll, who started this was MadTommy. When somebody is starting a thread about CoD problems or asking for an update then we are called whiners, do you get offended when we call you fanboys? Are those threads constructive or are made only to to start flames?

Was his post contributing calling me names? ACE OF... this show that you are here only to troll and start flamings

MadTommy 11-10-2011 02:28 PM

Yeah apologies nearmiss, as i said earlier I should have refrained. But it was a moronic post that drew my ill advised comment. I'll happily take the slap on the wrist for it.
I mean heaven forbid a newcomer to the game actually has the cheek to make a post saying that he is enjoying the game on the said game's forum. Disgusting

EDIT:
albx.. does the saying kettle calling the pot black mean anything to you?

You seem to blowing this well out of proportion albx. The Op simply said he was enjoying the game.. and you post saying that it was disgusting, surly you can see that that was uncalled for. Are people not allowed to say they enjoy the game on these forums?

Sorry i have not 'continued with name calling'. I was in fact trying to understand your point of view and explain mine.

If you think the 'kettle call the pot black' is 'name calling', its not. I was trying to point out how hypocritical you are seemingly being. You talk about people starting flame wars such like, but that is all you have done in this thread. You have not explained your comments or conversed in any kind of mature discussion and in fact have contributed nothing to this thread. You seem to expect people to act in one way and yet you do not follow your own 'code'.

Well see you in a couple of weeks, as i wont be editing my post anytime soon.

Nope!

The question I put to you, and you are avoiding, is..

What kind of response did you expect when you felt the need to chime in with your negative reply to a group of people who where talking about all the things they like about CoD.

So let me see if I understand you correctly.. Me asking you what kind of response you expected is 'trolling'.. But your initial contribution to this thread is 'not trolling'?

Interesting point of view to say the least..

But it does shed some light on how you and yours find the most interesting ways to justify their actions in this forum

But seriously i am sorry for contributing to derailing this thread.. but on a plus side it has given me a giggle and hopefully others have shrived to find it amusing too.

Some good, some bad but not great yet.

Positive: Will be a great WW2 sim if they ever fix the major problems. Its getting there.

Negative: It is taking a long time to fix it. Understandable, there is a lot of major stuff to fix.

I try it each patch and will continue to shelve it until it is as good as the other sims I fly. One day sooner rather than later, I hope.
