A challenge to all open minded whiners
 

I keep seeing whiners making references to 'all' the promisees made that were never fulfilled in one thread after another..

As if to imply there is a huge laundry list of 'items' that were advertised (promised) to us but not actually included in the initial release of CoD.

As I read their posts I realized that most if not all of these whiners never actually mention any one item on the list by name.. They only make references to the list.

Me being a reasonable man I asked myself why? As in why don't they ever mention a specific item on the list that has them so upset?

Could it be a case of they themselves don't even know what is on this list, but they have seen so many whiners making so many references to the list that they just assume there is a list?

Well based on all the posts I have read thus far I think the chances are very good that there is no list, or at best a very short list portrayed as a long list.

I mean think about it, if there was this huge laundry list than it would be a simple mater for any of the whiners to post a dozen or so from the list in each of their post... Right? Yet most if not all never do.

Why is that?

Well I think it has a lot to do with the glom on, jump on the band wagon, snow ball aspect of human nature. Where it only takes a few (king whiners) to float the 'idea' (huge laundry list) and once the 'idea' is out there it is not long before other (lemming whiners) pick up the ball and run with it repeating it as fact, never stopping to ask if they could see the list, they just take the king whiners word for it that there is one.

Hence the challenge to all open minded whiners

I say open minded whiners because they are the types that once 'shown' the error in their ways they are adult enough to admit they were wrong and change their ways. That is to say I give them the benefit of the doubt that they just got caught up in the king whiners snow ball of lies, but, when faced with the facts will be able to jump off the wagon and join the rest of us on the side of reason.

So here is the challenge put out to all open minded whiners.

Take some time, pick an 'item' you belive you were promised but did not receive and see if you can find the source of the promise. Than reply to this post where I will review your source, if valid, Ill edit this point and add it to the list (see bottom of this post). I honestly belive that if make the effort you will quickly release that there are very few if any 'items' you were promised that you did not receive. At which point you will be able to look at CoD from a clearer perspective and join the rest of us on the side of reason.

Note I said I would review your source! I will only add valid 'items' to the list, and by valid I mean you can provide a 'reference', be it something printed in the users manual or side of the box or an official UBI or 1C web site. Another acceptable 'reference' would be something an official representative of UBI or 1C said in a forum. For example if you can find a quote where Oleg said the initial CoD release would have XXX. Not to be confused with Oleg saying the new game engine is capable or expandable to add XXX. That is to say over the past 5+ years of CoD development Oleg and other 1C representatives have been nice enough to post updates where they gave us 'status' on CoD development. During that time many things were 'mentioned' that could potentially be in the game when released, but just talking about what the new CoD engine is capable of does not equate to a promise that it will be included with the initial release of CoD.

Now I know the king whiners will not take up the challenge!

Why?

Because they love to whine and taking up this task would take that joy away from them

So this challenge really goes out to the open minded whiners that just got caught up in the frenzy that is whining, but are willing to step back from the edge to see the truth and adult enough to admit they made a mistake

With that said below is the list I will update each time someone reply to this thread with a valid 'item'

LIST OF ITEMS WE WERE PROMISED BUT DID NOT RECEIVE

1) Dynamic Weather: Oleg stated in 2009-04 that the CoD maps would have dynamic weather, as far as I can tell the only dynamic part of the maps is time of day (TOD) which I think we can all agree does not count as dynamic weather. item provided by Tacoma74

NO. Lets talk about the CLOD being released in alpha state. The sim wasnt playable on mid-to high end systems. Even today most of the folks have serious performance issues (one example is drastic drop of FPS when the dust is near or some other effect, or when more planes are in doghfight low over land). Then, the fact that ingame AA is not working properly. The fact that we got old il2 external engine sounds in release (only in last patch we got "quality" sounds). So here you go. Facts. I dont want to jabber about some features never brought to light. Luthier himself acknowledged (confessed) that the game has serious problem with optimisation of the actual graphic engine.
BTW what is your motivation which drives you in this "defending crusade"? Why you call ppl whiners? They are bigger fans than you....I have more hours than you in CLOD....you funny guy...the reason (most of us) are complaining (and reporting bugs, mind you) is to make this game better (visaully, performance wise, features etc). Theres no secret whiners club which wants Luthier fail. Quite the opposite. Grow up.

To the open minded whiners, above is a classic example of a king whiner. Note the total lack of any references let alone facts. He is missing the whole point of the thread, that being the list of 'items' we were promised and did not receive. He is either confused, or trying to 'float' the idea that CoD is the first game ever release that had a 'bug' in it. Which most reasonable people would agree is just not the case. Again, this thread is not about the 'bugs' in CoD, in that as most reasonable people know most if not all games have 'bugs' in them. This thread is about the so called promised 'items' that some think we did not receive

I think you and Tvrdi are confused.. You both seem to be under the impression that most if not all game are releaed with no bugs.. That is not the case! Read the post again and I think upon your 2nd read you will realise this thread is about 'items' some people think they were promised and did not recive.. That is to say this is not a bug list thread, there are plenty of those.

at least the game was "announced" as a top notch WW2 combatflightsim before release.

if you count what we have today as failed promisses or as bugs - its everyones own point of view i guess.

I would think that the fact they delivered an alpha with placeholder sounds, they completely reworked the colours, there's not all the planes they've been working on (Su-26? Cierva Autogyro?), they gave erratic updates for a long time, they're keeping quiet on further development, they generally show little respect for the customer (an apology would have been warmly appreciated), and last but not least the game is now sold for peanuts, is enough to make me feel a bit peeved about it all.

I personally decided to uninstall it and wait for better updates, because the whole experience is starting to get frustrating.

Uh and AOA, I really really think you should re-think your strategies, you're really not doing yourself any favour in terms of sympathy..

2) Fully working AA (MG told us that the screenshots was without AA due to hardware limitations in the computer used to render the scenes);

3) Working radio comms (obvious in any combat flight sim with friendlyAI aircraft and working radio comms menu);

I have noticed that when things calm down here, somebody starts a thread like this purely to stir things up again.
Its as bad as, and probably worse than the 'whine' threads, because its done to cause trouble, and is all a bit pathetic really.

I realize there will be some subjective points where one mans trash is another mans treasure, and that is a big part of this exercise.

In that if a king whiner were to post a link to where it says 'top notch' and try and 'float' the idea that is proof of something we were promised and did not receive, the open minded whiners would read that and realize that it is not proof as much as it is the king whiners opinion..

And after seeing a few of those weak attempts the open minded whiners would quickly realize how silly most of the so called promises are

Please re-read the inital post.. Just posting the item is not enough, you have to provide the reference from where it came. For example did you get this from the users guide? side of the box? or a website?

However I just installed Cliffs of Dover ($12.49 I couldn’t resist any longer) and I’m looking forward to getting airborne soon.

You REALLY need to discuss number 3? It's a FUNDAMENTAL item missing... And the working AA was a LIE told to customers during development... Dynamic weather was advertised even in early days of development, but just before release at least we was informed that we will not see this until fully optimised. Now DCS: Black Shark 2 has dynamic weather and decent cloud layers... it's time...

What I like about Cliffs of Dover is I am able to hold my poop longer since the channel map is huge and flight times are much longer. Also I have reduced my smoking a bit also since I do not smoke indoors and I cannot pause the mission on a full real server such as ATAG - I have to stay seated for the entire duration so this means I have to make sure I went to the potty before taking off AND having my smoke break before I take off.

So all in all I am very happy with Cliffs of Dover and so is my doctor.

I think LoBiSoMeM's list was on the right track. But unless you want to dig around through old dev updates from long ago, then you're not going to get the "references" you're looking for. We simply didn't get everything because it's not finished. But priority should be to get the game running smooth first. I'm sick of CTD's halfway through every flight because of the memory leaks... it gets so frustrating I have a hard time even wanting to reboot it. I can live with the FM's and no AA.

it doesn't necessarily say it would be part of the release, way I see it if all these things end up in the game eventually then no promises were ever broken......or is that just too obvious?

I think it should be noted however in the first posting that all of these "promised but not recieved" items could be reimplemented in an upcoming patch. Otherwise this whole thread just seems to have a negative feeling against the game to me. Newcomers could be drawn away by thinking that these things will never happen, and that is most certainly not 100% true.

I see from the OP's join date he probably missed all the weekly updates and promises we used to get, and he is too stupid / lazy / ignorant / whatever to use the search function. ;)

As for why a lot of paying customers (lets call a spade a spade eh ;) ) are not replying, they probably have him on 'ignore'...

Still, points for the good troll OP, you got a quick 6 pages of dross out of it, and probably scared a few new customers away...

TBH the whole fanboi/whiner thing is getting old. All we have here is an example of how different people deal with disappointment.


Personally, I've spent more money on much worse games than Cliffs of Dover, plenty of times. £50 quid for a console game that you can finish in a day, now that p's me off.

£30 for a game that has depth, potential, awesome subject matter, tight community (you know all the stuff thats good about Combat Flight Sims) isn't a lot. Of course it's flawed, but I can't judge CLoD to the same standard as CoD.. I'm happy to wait this out, give the developers some more time (we waited 6 years, what's another 2?) and hope that it get's better.

For now, I'm kind of just happy it exists... Somebody at some point will fix it.

I agree with bongodriver on that.. No promise of it being in the inital release, as a mater of fact Oleg pointed out that it still required alot of testing.. So I don't see that one being added to the list, unless you can expand on it more to convice me otherwise

Actully this was covered a few weeks back

CoD does have DX10 and DX11 API support.

The very difinition of DX11 API support is the ability to sellect different 'feature levels' as in DX9, DX10 and DX11.

On that note, you can set CoD to use the DX11 featrue levels, which I have done, but I would not recomend it, in that when I used the DX11 feature level the grass looked pretty bad IMHO, but try it you might like it. You can change it to DX11 via the conf.ini

Are you saying you can not make use of DX11 features? Or are you saying you dont know how to edit your conf.ini to make CoD use DX11 featrues? Keep in mind you have to have a DX11 capable video card to use DX11 features!!

Its a fact, 9 out of 10 Doctors recommend Cliffs of Dover! :mrgreen:

I actually agree with you about the whole "I was lied to!" thing.

As I said before, I'm just happy that somebody made a WW2 flight sim and I know that in the end it will get fixed.

Your not missing much IMHO.. The DX11 features are not all the great yet anyways.. Not sure where the problem is really.. Could be the way CoD is making use of them or an NVIDIA or ATI thing. The good news is CoD has allready made the move to DX11 API support! Which means you can pick what feature levels you want to use.. For example, CoD is advertised as a DX10 game, but, because CoD is supporting the DX11 API, you can choose between DX9, DX9.1, DX10, DX10.1, or even DX11. For me DX10 seems to work best, which is probally why CoD is advertised as a DX10 game. But because CoD is allready supporting the DX11 API standard, it will be easy for them to support new features as they come out in the future.

If you're happy to buy something that is sold as complete, but it obviously isn't, and by a great measure, then while you hopefully wait for it to be fixed you also see it being sold for $5 (while you paid more for it) and the devs don't even bother to say "sorry about that, we kinda screwed up big time", then you definitely are the Ace of Asses..

Fancy words to be sure.. but now take pause and note that we are six pages deep into this thread and the closed minded types have only been able to produce '1' valid item.. I am not sure about you, but where I come from, '1' does not equate to 'by a great measure'
