What GPU...if money is no object?
Please only comment if you have something of high spec or have been testing something of high spec!
|
I would go for Nvidia GTX580 single GPU card. It stays quite cool, idle 45-48c and under 70c under load and i have no graphical or performance problems in any game running on maximum in 1920x1080.

Atm, considering all the dual GPU problems in all sort of games, the highest overclocked GTX 580 and/or with 3 GB VRAM should be the best buy for 1920x1080.
For lower resolutions, like my 1680x1050, a 560 TI superoverclocked is enough for anything (as a 580 would have roughly the same performance at this resolution). |

Just remember that these cards require a minimum 750w PSU with 42A on the +12v rail or you will probably face freezes, BSODS and reboots. I know some sites, including Nvidia, claims minimum 600w but i really recommend 750w if you don't want headaches. Second, if you do need a new PSU, DON'T go for a cheap one. Buy a known and good brand. You won't regret it. |

If money is no problem, then patience is a vitrue!
There is nothing to buy today to make this game run very well. Wait for the next generation of NV GPUs with the new core. These will make the game run better. Now the bad news, they decided to postpone the introduction of the new GPUs from end-2011 to 2012 :( So, very sad Xmas it will be! GTX580 3Gb is a good card to get you fixed for a few months while waiting. ~S~ |
I have had a GTX580 1.5gb since feburary, bloody great card, best I've had, if I were buying now I would get the same but the 3gb version no question mate!

3 GB GTX 580 is worse than normal/overclocked GTX 580, as the clock of the graphic/shader processor is lower.
You'll have to chose between them considering other factors, mainly the resolution at which you'll run the games: - if you plan to use normal resolution (like 1980x1080), and most of/the most important of the game you're playing won't exceed 1.5 GB of VRAM (and I don't know of any atm) -> it's better to go with normal/overclocked 580s. For 1680x and lower ones, even a 560 Ti [super][overclocked] or a 570 would be enough - if you plan to play on surround resolutions (3x1, etc) then you'll need as much of extra VRAM as you can get -> it's better to go with 3GB 580s And of course the performance of a videocard is greatly depending on how your system can provide and make use of it: - processor - motherboard - PSU - drivers - RAM - OS |
3 times gtx 580 they did say money is no problem did they not? :-)

You might wanna throw in another harddisc or two someday or other components drawing extra power, even USB units. There is really no point running a system on the edge. Personally i'm using the Corsair HX850 Modular unit. |
ASUS Mars II
I am wondering, why this little peace of "reasonably priced" hardware is not on the list...
http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/N...RS_II2DIS3GD5/ http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphic...cs-Card-Review Price in Europe is around 1.300€ |
because that card is dual GPU, which is same as a SLI on the same card, and therefore has the same problems as the SLI setup.

The GTX580 is excellent |
Wait till Q1 of 2012. Nvidia and ATI are coming out with next-gen stuff then. For Nvidia, It's to be a BIG increase in performance(well we'll see). I want a new card bad too but there's nothing worst than buyers remorse.

S!
As above..waiting for 2012 and the new cards from both brands. Also this gives precious time for CoD to mature a bit more. |
Love my EVGA GTX580sc, only 1.5gb but find the game VERY well. Averages above 50fps at all times.

Just finished a budget upgrade. Went from e6600@3.4 ghz to i2500k at stock for now and from 8800gts to a regular gtx570. If money was no object I would've gone for a GTX580 3gb.

GTX580 all day. The only reason I decided to go with my GTX560 Ti 2Gb was because I was on a budget. I've got it OC'd up to 977 core clock, 1954 shader clock, and 2205 memory clock. Runs the game very well, only dipping down to about 27-28 fps minimum over land with around 20-25 planes in the sky. A very good buy considering it's almost half the price of the 580. But never-the-less I would very much like to get my hands on one. :)
Also, I went with a SilverStone 750w PSU. Extremely good quality, 100% modular, and was only $20 more than the standard Corsair 750w at $130 USD. Highly recommended. |
Guys thank you so much for your thoughts, I have now decided and ordered a 580 3gb. It is a Gigabyte card, not the fastest around in the class but better priced at £420...if i do not get any betterment over my 480 it is all your fault...
