And yet you covered up probably the most appealing aspect of the 109, the sound of its turbocharger, with crappy mood music. Shame on you.

ATAG_Snapper 09-30-2011 11:59 PM

Great vintage footage and stills. From any angle the 109 looks lethal and beautiful -- and I'm a Spitfire-fanatic saying this!

ATAG_Dutch 10-01-2011 12:47 AM

Bleh.

ElAurens 10-01-2011 01:27 AM

Given teh choice between flying a 109 and and a 190 and I'll take the 109 every time.

However, given the choice between flying a 109 and a Gloster Gladiator and I'll take the Gladiator every time.

But you boys just carry on with your Luftwhining, it's always entertaining.

You're lucky I'm not a Death Rocker.

Flanker35M 10-01-2011 06:22 AM

S!

Bf109 is one helluva good looking plane with Fw190. ElAurens, keep your Gladiator we have the only airworthy Gloster Gauntlet here :D

Ze-Jamz 10-01-2011 07:08 AM

Don't know what's more scary, the 109 or the music :)

Exactly. That's why I picked it. It's from "Return To Castle Wolfenstein". Never played it but used the soundtrack quite a few times. That one's called "Ravaged Town".

You guys had all the cool planes!

A really mean that. I think the FAF was by far the most interesting air force operating during WW2, with the Nationalist Chinese a close second.

You did so much with so little.

FFCW_Urizen 10-01-2011 02:34 PM

i don´t know why, but 109´s sound of the turbocharger always sends a shiver down my spine, that´s just nasty.

Praising the glorious 109, yet the only gunsight camera footage you posted was taken by the 190. That was some impressive beating those four cannons could deliver. I understand. It's ok to be jealous and show it as Bf-109 footage. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

The 109 was the Spitfire of the Germans. Posing for photo ops, while the Focke Wulf, like the Hurricane/Typhoon for the brits, did the hard work.:-P

thats what i meant actually

LoBiSoMeM 10-01-2011 03:51 PM

I like Hurricanes... It's a sexual perversion?

SEE 10-01-2011 04:15 PM

I stick with Spits but saw the ME109's in flight at Duxford, they were stunning and up close even more so. I would never argue which is the better because much depends on the pilot.

GOA_Potenz 10-01-2011 05:14 PM

109 sexiest than the spit, in performance is up to the pilot
i always will pic a 109 when there's no 190 in the hangar

Easy mistake to make, with the centrifugal compressor it sounds much more like a turbo charger than a typical mechanical blower. What a loverly noise!

I have to admit that I'm flying the Spit mostly in Clod, but once the Friedrich comes along, you'll need a crowbar to pry me out of the cockpit.

From a German newsreel so there's really no way of knowing. Looking at that 9 minute guncam movie you're right though. I'm sure a 109 with one 30 mm could do the same thing.
