X52 users ?
 

Thought i'd post this over here too :)

I got an X52 and i've had it for a week now, i like it alot! The twistystick is done well, lots of resistance is needed so you won't apply rudder accidently (like my previous stick) However it's quite difficult to use rudder, elevator and aileron at the same time with only 1 hand.

That "luftwaffe flying" constantly applying rudder to fly straight is very hard. Most of the time when the elevator is trimmed right the ball is centered anyway, but somestimes not...
how do you do this without pedals?

Another question, i read the X52 Pro has 'stops' in the throttle at 20 and 80% I have the regular X52 and mine has these 'stops' too, is that something new? i thought the X52 didn't have them...
no biggie, just wondering if they changed it.

I set mine up like this.
stick:
upper rotary: up and down = prop pitch & left and right = mixture
lower rotary: up and down = FOV zoom in and out & left and right = normal view and gunsight
trigger 1 & 2 = MGs and Both
C = cannon only
B = Shift F1 center gunsight
FIRE = bombs
A = rockets
pinkie + FIRE = Eject

throttle:
Big rotary = rudder trim
small rotary = elevator trim
Hat up and down = flaps
D = map

Land and take off mode
scroll wheel = press = gear, up & down = manual gear up & down
Hat = up and down = flaps, left right = lock tailwheel and chocks
E = engines
D = wheel brakes

stick:
A = left engines
B = right engines
FIRE = all engines

in IL2 joycontrol i have throttle aileron and elevator at all 100s
rudder is 0-100 in linear pattern
elevator trim is 0-60 in curved pattern
rudder trim is 0-100 in curved pattern

Please share how some of your key settings ?

Is there a way to make the software automatically load your profile?

Yes, there is a way to automatically load your profile.
When you use the actual Drivers you can right-click on the symbol in your task-bar and then right-click on the profile you want to use to set it as standard profile. voila, set.
I hope i´ve remembered it exactly because i don´t have my Game-PC available right now.

If I got that question correctly, he's asking if there is a way that the preset loads automatically. That is a feature some sticks support, but not the X52 AFAIK and it's not that common any longer. If you only use some basic layouts, you can map the Direct-X-buttons to the functions ingame, though. That would safe you from loading your setup before the game, but it will also limit your number of functions and possibilities to map different operations to just one button.

You don't have to go into the loading menue, though. The X52 is the only stick I know that can load a preset from the stick itself: There is a button in the rotary on the throttle that is marked with an " i " in a circle. If you hold that and push the lower coolie-hat on the stick up and down, you can select profiles stored in your Saitek-folder. If you got the right one, you can push the coolie-hat to the right and that will automatically load the selected preset into your stick. You can also push the coolie-hat to the left, which will send you to the parent-folder. You can now select different folders with the same functionality.

For the rudder-problem: Most aircraft have trims. You can trim rudder, ailerons and elevators, so you don't have to constantly hold the stick in a position to counter the planes movement. You can also map these trims to the rotaries. IIRC most German planes have no aileron- and rudder-trim, tough. :(

May I humbly suggest you change this? Past experience (mine & many others) shows that you will eventually hit the silk by accident, probably at just the wrong moment, if you have the eject button on your stick set-up.

Also, most X52 users have found it best to set the ingame curve for pitch and roll to all 100%.

I mapped drop-tank-release and bomb-release on the "Launch"-button with the safety-thing on the stick. Pressing Pinkie and the "Launch"-button is my bailout.

when i start my pc the profile for my x52 is automatically loaded so i can see it on the display of the throttle.

the bad thing is that you have to write a new profile as the new sw can´t use the old profiles.

No planes but russian and japanese flies straight

Isn't there somewhere a guide for how to set up the X52 so most planes fly straight with that stick? I've noticed that all (well, at least the ones I've tested, about 20 or so) planes but most the russian and the japanese do not fly straight. I.e. the aileron always needs to be trimmed - quite a lot - since the planes just dip their right wing... That sounds pretty weird to me, but that's my experience. And many planes just react very slightly upon trimming, if at all...

As I use my Saitek Av8r stick instead with e.g. Gladiator or Corsair, the planes go straight ahead without a fuzz...

Question: If you use the rudder on the twiststick how do you have it set up?

I have it at all 100s now but when i add rudder input the plane swings hard to that side, it's very difficult to aim precisely with it and i end up not using rudder at all when shooting.

If your question was directed to me (?), the answer is that I do not use the stick for the rudders. I use pedals.

Regarding my previous post, I did not express myself quite clear: What I meant was that all the Russian and Japanese planes fly straight, regarding aileron, but not most of the other ones (e.g. Corsair and Gladiator).

Yes i have noticed that too, but i don't think it's the stick. I had the same thing happen before with another stick.

OK, then it maybe is something for the IL-2 devs to answer then...? Although, as I wrote previously, my other Saitek Av8er stick does not behave like this...

hmm really? that's odd!

When I was using the twist for rudder I had a gentle curve on the input and also added some filtering to prevent the wobble when the twist snapped back to center. Worked a treat.

Okay i just tested this in a 190. I flew straight and trimmed for level flight, the ball was centered and yet the right wing drops slowly. Have to hold the stick slightly to the left to keep flying straight. This is really weird, i was perfectly trimmed and it still dropped!



I put linear pattern 50-100 and 10 filtering. Made it easier to keep the ball centered during flight!

190s, like a lot of german planes, have no aeleron trim. They are set to keep wings level at a certain cruise speed only, beyond that things go out of balance and you have to babysit it with the stick.

Same goes for japanese planes.

okay that sounds good, but he said it didn't happen with his new stick, maybe he remembered wrong
