Cpt_Farrels skinthread MkII
Since it's three months since my last post I thought I'd start a new thread for my latest stuff. I've posted my first Bf109E-4's today. There's four of them and all four depicts Helmut Wicks aircraft and the way the markings evolved during the autumn of 1940.
First there's the "Yellow 2" version from Septbember 5:th, 1940: http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1109...5Sept_1940.jpg On September 28:th Wick had been promoted to Gruppenkommandeur and a Yellow cowling and spinner had been added. The aircraft also wore yellow wingtips and off course the double chevron of a Gruppenkommandeur. http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1109...8Sept_1940.jpg About a week later the rudder had got some yellow paint and the yellow wingtips were gone without a trace, very strange but the photos confirms this... The spinner backplate had been painted white as well. http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1109...05Oct_1940.jpg On November 10:th Wick was the Geschwaderkommodore of JG2 and had had the markings changed to reflect that. After a couple of days a Geschwaderkommodore the groundcrew had repainted the rudder with a more clean and organized "scoreboard" http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1109...10Nov_1940.jpg That's it for now! There's more coming! |
Great CPT,
downloading them. Waited for a long time. Thanks PS: Cant download first skin |
Superb as usual, what a fantastic collection of Wick E-4's,thanks Cpt,top job mate;)
|
Thank you for your good work.
|
Awesome work, very cool.
|
Fixed the download link for Yellow 2! Thanks for the encouragement!
|
I really, really REALLY don't like you......................
Loverly work mate |
How nice of you to say so! You gonna hate me now then
Today I've uploaded two Bf109E-3's and three E-4's... The Grey one I've done in RLM 74/75. Adolf Galland once claimed that the colors they mixed in 1940 to try and come up with suitable greys were later used as RLM74 and RLM75. I don't know about that but judging from a colorphoto of Gallands Emils it seems plausible. Besides, if the colors were done using RLM65 with various greens it makes sense that the lighter grey is more blueish while the darker is more greenish as the 65 would have had less effect on the dark color. http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1109...ewski_JG54.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1109...ite-7_JG51.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1109...orten_JG26.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1109...chmann_JG3.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1109...ow-11_JG52.jpg |
Beutiful,fanbloodytastic mate.
Thanks Cheese |
I was actually dribbling when looking at these, lovely job.
Any chance of these being done at some point? http://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Bf-109E/B...2.6-(Y3+).html http://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Bf-109E/B...-Bischoff.html |
Your skins are really great and I would download them if they came without the swastika (forbidden in my country)
|
Not sure about yellow 3 but White 9 will be released sooner or later - in fact I'm working on the E-1 template now - just fixing up the panellines that are different due to the MG's fitted in the wings.
|
Awesome news thanks Farrel.
|
Again, fantastic skins! Thank you very much!!!

Hi Anders, I'm 'elephant'...
you know, I'm one of the most dedicated fans of your work and a collector of your skins for years. I just recently bought COD and installed all of your skins immediately! As you said above, some very interesting blanks are included and I'm in the process of replacing the default skins with yours...;) I bumped on some photo's that show a mistake on your Munchenberg skin from your first bunch of skins for the E-3. It seems that this plane had the "Schlageter" emblem on. Also it had a later "squared" canopy and windshield. (I know that when it was made the E-4 was not available yet; should it be used on the E-4 now?)... http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...henbergBoB.jpg http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/w...enbergBoB2.jpg |
Thanks for the heads-up regarding the schlageter emblem! As for the canopy, it's true that the skin was released back when there was no Bf109E-4 in the game but the thing is that this aircraft was actually an E-3 retrofitted with a later style canopy. It will fit the E-4 off course so it's all up to the user how to use it.
Cheers! / Anders |
Finally had some time to finish something... Two new Bf109E-1's uploaded today, both seems to have originally worn the early war camoscheme which then has been modified at unit level to more resemble the newer scheme called for in the summer of 1940. There's more coming but when is hard to tell.
BTW I also fixed my donate button that has been out of action for quite some time. Just saying... :) http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1111...Red-7_JG54.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1111...ow-11_JG53.jpg |
Fantastic stuff... your officially my hero Cpt :D

Thank you!

Congrats on Farrel Jnr.
|
Yeah,congrats Capt
|
These are seriously nice, Captain!

New one uploaded today - the Bf109E-1 flown by Rudolf Rothenfelder of 9./JG2. Always depicted with yellow number but I'm convinced that 9./JG2 used brown at the time. Several photos, including the photos of Rothefelders aircraft show numerals way darker than the yellow of the fuel triangle. Brown was used instead of yellow by some staffeln so it's nothing strange about it.

Superb Cpt,just love your mottling boyo;)
|
Help please extracting
Capt Farrel..cant seem to get these or the Wicks to work..I download from the IL/FB site...and extract the bmp files to the appropriate COD paintschemes/planes folders.and they all come out looking rather strange.Im using the latest patch of CLoD....I just cant figure out what Im doing wrong..all the other paint schems..that work.appear to be extracted as jpg files and not bmp files...am I missing something? Please help.these skins look FANTASTIC!!!
|
Sounds like you've downloaded sk
ins for the old game, Il-2 Sturmovik, not Cliffs of Dover. Make sure you click on "skins for cliffs of dover" at the top window and then chose the appropriate sub-section in the left hand menu. |
Awesome will have to check this one out tonight, thanks Farrel.

Beautiful skin yet again! Thank you Cpt!

Two new Bf109E-4's up today. I think most of you have seen the filmclip of Detlev Rohwers "Chevron Circle" as it's often featured in documentaries. Günther Lützows Chevron Triangle is quite wellknown too. I even tried to somewhat match the screenshots with actual photos, just for the fun of it...
http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1112...Lutzow_JG3.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1112...Rohwer_JG3.jpg |
Once again, this is masterful work!
|
I'm on fire now! Three more today, all E-1's from JG52. All heavily mottled.
First up is Paul Boche's White 2 that crashlanded in England on October 8:th. http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1112...Boche_JG52.jpg Next is another 4./JG52 "White 2" flown by Erich Mummert who crashed in England on September 30:th. Despite the short time between crashes both the numeral style and enginecowling is different. http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1112...mmert_JG52.jpg Finally, a 6./JG52 aircraft with an unknown pilot, with equally heavy mottling. All three of these schemes are often given as RLM 70/71 due to their dark appearance but looking at small visible parts of the wings and elevators it seems that they were regular 02/71 schemes with the sides very densly mottled in 70 and 71. http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1112...ow-2t_JG52.jpg |
And long may you be "on fire!!!" lovely mate :)
Cheese |
Fantastic stuff Cpt Farrel as usual.
Btw how's the young'un enjoying his first winter ;) |
Thanks! I've got some nice JG53 custom schemes coming next... My little girl has yet to see her first snow, nothing around these parts of Sweden yet. Last two winters have been great with lots of snow and great weather but this year it's back to the usual rain and fog of the west coast of Sweden. :(

Beautiful work. Absolutely love it. These number-two's certainly don't stink.
 |
Two more before the end of the year! (Mölders will have to wait...)
These are JG53, a unit which never dissapoints when it comes to innovative paintschemes. The III./JG53 aircraft flown by Erich Scmidt is from the period when they flew without the swastika so I haven't forgot it, it's supposed to look like that. http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1112...sflog_JG53.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1112...hmidt_JG53.jpg |
Awesome, if only we could use them online :(
P.S. you have put JG54 rather than JG52 on your website? |
Happy New Year! Here's two more Bf109E-4's. The first one was flown by Harro Harder of III./JG53 in July 1940. Harro was killed on August 11:th 1940 but evidently in another aircraft as this one became Erich Schmidt's regular aircraft in November - and included in my previous post.
Second aircraft is the aircraft of the famous JG51 Kommodore Werner Mölders. http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1201...arder_JG53.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1201...lders_JG51.jpg |
Typically beautiful work and an appreciated welcome to the new year.
|
Wanted to post to say a big thankyou for your skins. Have just downloaded your latest. Great stuff.
|
I got all your skins for COD. I am going to start the Cpt Farrel's fan club dude.
Seriously, Thank You for all you do. Your art is much apreciated and it is of the highest quality. |
Superb skins, as always
|
Uploaded a couple of new skins today and also added the JG26 shield to the Bf109E-3's of Blume and Muncheberg.
First one is a Bf109E-1 of 7./JG27. It was actually retrofitted with the later style square canopy but it looks allright like this too... http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1202...scher_JG27.jpg Then there's Yellow 9 of 3./JG3, I still love the Tatzelwurm marking! http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1202...llow-9_JG3.jpg |
Stunning, that 1st one is great mate, detail is brilliant.
Thanks Cheese |
brilliant!
. |
Un grand merci a vous pour ces magnifique skins vraiement du jolie travail .;)
|
Three more JG26 Emils uploaded! Regarding the colors, it's known that JG26 experimented with different grey colors, III./JG26 aircraft can be seen in colorphotos having been painted in various greys. It's off course impossible to tell exactly which aircraft were repainted in greys and which were not so the 8./JG26 aircraft might have both been grey or both been green... I've gone with a hunch, looking at contrasts between colors and so on so while I'm happy with my choice it's far from certain to be correct.
BTW, 8./JG26 was known as the "Adamson staffel" after the cartoon they used for their staffelmarking - a unit that should appeal to the Simpsons fans among us as it looks like Homer Simpsons fore-runner! :) http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1202...prick_JG26.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1202...ack-9_JG26.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1202...ingel_JG26.jpg |
Thanks,as usual there lovely :)
Cheese |
Sweet, man!

CPT Farrel
Is it Christmas? Wow so many skins again. Thank you. They are superb. As you are skinnig JG 26, is there a possibilty to see A. Gallands E-4 with kill marks?:-P S! LC |
Very cool what's with the flags on the last skin?
|
I might do Gallands 109 if I feel that I can bring something new, a little more accuracy or details overlooked by others. As It's been done so many times before I feel that It's important to think about it that way... Just like I did with Helmut Wicks E-4...

Today I uploaded three Bf109E-4's flown by Adolf Galland. The first is Wrk.Nr 5819 which was his main aircraft from September 1940 and into 1941. This is the same aircraft that Wotan posted a couple of days ago but my version is from a later date when the wingroot camopattern had been fixed.
The other two are variations of the same aircraft which is almost as much photographed as 5819 although I can't figure out the Wrk.Nr for this one although several are known... EDIT: Just re-upped 5819 as I realised that by the time the wingroot had been fixed, the rudder had been repainted along with the victorytally. It's fixed now... There might be changes coming to the other two as I just had a brainwave smile EDIT 2: I've been trying to identify the aicraft in the second and third shot below. It's been photographed enough to make me certain that it must have been Gallands main aircraft for quite some time so it's hard to understand how it's Wrk.Nr wouldn't be known. I then realised that the shots confirmed to show 5819 were all taken in late November 1940 or later although Galland is known to have flown it since September 7:th. It's also interesting to note that in early November Galland flew other aircraft for more than a week and I now believe that during that time, 5819 was taken away for an overhaul and given the new paintscheme as part of the process. So all those other photos show 5819 although in the scheme it wore during its early career. At least that's my theory! http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1202..._JG26_5819.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1202...JG26_Early.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1202...lland_JG26.jpg |
thank you .

Great skins Cpt.
Very nice. Now I have nearly all skins i wanted.:-P 3 skins of A. G. I thought we will get one but 3 of them. Really nice surprice!!!! Thanks its fantastic. One important pilot wich remains is Franz von Werra. Cheers BTW i like those informations giving on any pilot and his aircraft. |
There's more coming for Galland... :)
I said I'd do some Galland skins if I could find out a little more than the usual and I sure did that... As for von Werra, I can't figure out how to get the spinner quite right as it's mapped in thirds while Werras is divided in fourths... |
Another three Galland aircraft! It's amazing what you can learn when you sit down and study old well known material with a little patience and structure. The first skin depicts a quite unknown aircraft flown by Galland when he was first made Geschwaderkommodore in August 1940. This aircraft I learned about on the Luftwaffe Experten Message Boards so big thanks to the guys over there!
The second and third skin is Gallands Bf109E-7 that he flew in November 1940, a reserve aircraft used for a couple of weeks in November instead of his usual aircraft. Although documents only shows that he used it for a few weeks it seems that the engine-cowling had at least one re-paint and the aircraft was propably kept as his reserve for a longer period of time. http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1202..._JG26_5398.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1202..._JG26_5966.jpg http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/1202..._5966_Late.jpg |
Hi Cpt farrel,

|

Its fantastic to have such very nice skins. They are all beautiful. Thank you for your hard work and sharing these birds.:-P |
This IS a preview... :) Just to show I got the spinner sorted!
http://www.cptfarrels.com/Prevs/WIP/vonwerra.jpg |
Dude, that stuff is amazing!
I sincerely hope you're still into making such great skins, by the time we get "Friedrichs", "Gustavs" and maybe even "Kurfürsten" for Cliffs of Dover! Not to mention Focke Wulf 190's! |
Cpt,
may i say you are crazy...... good man. von Werra and look at that spinner nice buddy. Thanks. |
