sli malfunctioning
Any suggestion??
Luthier? |
They won't fix it because they don't believe its broken.
Seriously the whole FSAA and SLI/Crossfire thing makes me want to scream. |
It works very often but you have to set it up properly. Some help here:
1) http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=23087 2) http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=23199 Developers of another great flightsim do not recommend SLI systems either and it took them 2 years to fix it after release. This technology just is not reliable enough. Avoid it. |

Search other sims forums for SLI and X-fire issues. They never work from beginning in niche projects like sims and often are broken with new game patches. Thus devs do not recommend them but you may have your own no-BS opinion. It is your choice and your responsibility, GL! |

One card is still better than a sli on cod, because SLI NEVER WORKED PROPERLY since the release date. |

This is the only Sim, the only game I have that SLI don't work and that's not a opinion its a fact. |

Is it an issue that needs fixing? Yes it is.
Does it work flawlessly in niche games made by small development studios that lack direct 24/7 access to AMD/nVidia? Almost never from the start. It took RoF 2 years to sort it out and yet they are still advising against dual GPU setups. That's not being an apologist, it's simply not closing your eyes to the world around you just because your personal wishes conflict with what happens out there. I have no doubt it will work eventually. How long will that be? Let's just say that i don't plan on going dual GPU any time soon for as long as my main interest is sims and other niche gaming genres :-P I think a lot of the complaints come from the fact that many simmers lately tend to adopt a mentality usually found in other gaming genres. "Why wait for reviews and performance reports? I'll just preorder the collector's edition and dump $2000 on a monster PC and everything should run fine". That works fine for other gaming genres, it rarely works ok for sims though due to the complexity involved. Some games rely more on CPU, some need a lot of RAM, some prefer faster GPUs...simulators need a bit of everything and in a way that one component doesn't bottleneck the rest, not to mention architecture choices. Most notable example is FSX and that's a microsoft product we're talking about, with whatever that means in terms of available cash to fund the project: they just made a false assumption that clock speeds would keep rising and coded most the game around that with minimal multicore support, it took years before people could fly FSX maxed out and even on a previous generation i5/i7 with a DX10 GPU it's still not possible to run full graphics. Mind you, that's a game made by a multi-million dollar company that doesn't have 50 aircraft maneuvering within the same piece of sky simultaneously and if it does due to some third party AI traffic add-on, it's just a case of pretty models following predetermined waypoints: no complex AI needed to simulate airliners and procedural flying, plus no damage model. Let's keep things in perspective, shall we? |
Well there is something about Simulation and graphics .. Developers usually think of graphics very poorly compare to other genres of gaming.. i will say that the graphics concepts on simulation is quite poor and a huge portion of the staff is used for coding.. In many occasions the codes is a little bit old or not optimized .
The graphics start early on the concept of a sim but the goodies come at the end alas.. Oleg did the same .. with multicores and multi GPU use.. I wish they could develop with Graphics performance in mind as much as coding physics and mecanics... from start.. |
I think the devs would be wasting their limited resources trying to fix sli and FSAA at this point. The game is evolving too much at this stage . We just got a major graphics overhaul in this patch. If they had spent time and money trying to fix sli and AA last month and then the patch changed it all and these features stopped working again it would have been in vane. I think they will wait till the graphics code has settled on a more permanent version before they worry about polishing up final details like SLI and AA.
I use in game x8 AA with "FXAA by some dude" and it looks great except for the wire aerials. SLI is strange. I have two gtx460's and they graph 100% card 1 and 15% card two @ 50-60fps. If I disable card 2 at driver level the frame rate drops 10-15fps. I can't explain this. Alternate frame rendering is not working but the second card is making a difference to fps... I have previously posted screen shots about this as I don't understand what is happening. The game run great for me anyway... |
I can tell you just because AA doesn't work well that many wont play it.. SLI or Xfire doesn't work same thing ..
For me Crossfire and AA doesn't work i do not bother to even fly the sim anymore.. It feels better to spend time on DCS and RoF .. It is in fact corrections of graphics performance is a very important priority if not the "most" at that stage. All the gliches and performances ( SLI and Xfire )... All those unfixed problems make the Sim just "botched" .. |
I would just like to know what devs are thinking to do about that.
It seems to me that they're hiding the head in the sand... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCE0z...eature=related |
...and seems to me that some moderators helps devs to hide their head in the sand
