Would you want HELICOPTERS in future expansions?

I would love being able to fly and shoot down helicopters also in this sim. How wonderful it would be to integrate helicopters models in this game it would be. A dream come true if you will. Helicopters could have all sorts of missions for air to ground combat, carrying useful payloads over respectable ranges, or bunches of other different types of mission and just blowing a Heli out the sky would feel real satisfying! Just need a Expansion set in the perfect year when some of the first combat helicopters were starting to be used. And plus I love flying a Helicopter.. Requires so much more mind power and would love to feel how real it could feel in this SIM.

The French Army was one of the first military forces to modify and use helicopters in combat in a ground attack role during the Algerian War of 1954-62. In 1955, French field commanders placed infantry machine gunners in the stretcher panniers of their Bell 47 (Sioux H-13) casualty evacuation helicopters.

In 1956, the French Air Force experimented with arming the Sikorsky S-55, then being superseded in service by the more capable Piasecki H-21 and Sikorsky CH-34 helicopters.

The H-19 was originally fitted with two rocket launchers and an ex-Luftwaffe MG151/20 20-mm cannon, both mounted axially on the outside of the aircraft.

And of course Vietnam. First the U.S. Army modified UH-1B 'Huey' helicopters, mounting machine guns and Folding Fin Aerial Rockets (FFAR) on struts parallel with the fuselage.

During the 1960s, the Soviet Union, saw the same need for an armed helicopter and equipped Mil Mi-8 helicopters with rocket pods. This armed helicopter was eventually developed into the Mil Mi-24, which saw extensive action in Afghanistan during the 80s.

OMG, of course not.

hiro 09-05-2011 11:47 AM

only in korea;

i know there are helos in ww2, but maybe for a 1946 scenario

burlaff 09-05-2011 11:49 AM

actually... in one of the earlier dev updates didn't they mention something about an autogyro being included in the game? I have no idea what happened to it though.
Something like this: http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/mileston...0-AvroRota.jpg

Yes you are correct. They did mention that.

Voted yes, but only if it's a Vietnam expansion and I can re-enact the scene from 'Apocalypse Now' with the Hueys and listen to 'ride of the valkyries'.;)

Hehe, that would be so cool. Da dada dada Da dada dada.... (kill the rabbit:grin:)

Bewolf 09-05-2011 12:55 PM

Why not? There have been quite a few helictopters been active during WW2 already.

just a few examples and all of them saw active service during WW2 (not in active combat roles, though).

same
but for me this team is belong to WWII classic aircraft era
no modern aircraft or something....

Trooper117 09-05-2011 01:35 PM

Absolutely not.. well, not until they have covered all theatres with all main aircraft types included.
But, we will never see that because we will all have passed away by the time they get around to it.. lol!

Actually the Hoverfly did fly in combat, it rescued some folks in Burma where it was deployed, and because of it's size (could only bring back a couple guys at a time) had to spend the night on the ground in the combat area before flying out with the last men the next morning.

I do not know if I would call SaR operations actually active combat. That's what german choppers did, too, foremost in alpine environments. Also with a bit of recce thrown in.
Actually, the Drache was planned to be used in the special operation to free Mussolini, which would have made it the first SpecOps choppers. Only technical difficulties prevented it from doing so.

EZ1 09-05-2011 01:58 PM

UP 3 already has some helos in it.

Blackdog_kt 09-05-2011 03:59 PM

Voted yes, as long as it's in the proper theater in a future expansion (Korea, Vietnam, etc).

capt vertigo 09-05-2011 04:33 PM

Ooooh yeah!

Helicopters would be great!

And submarines and race cars too!!! Lol

Sven 09-05-2011 04:54 PM

I love helicopters ( flying them RC :)), if historical correct for the time frame I say:

BRING IT ON!

+1

ARM505 09-05-2011 05:44 PM

Helicopters involve even more complex flight models and AI than we have now. If it's taken this long to get what we have (which couldn't be called complete in any case), you're living in fantasy land if you think that all the time and effort for a couple of SAR birds (at best) is going to be worthwhile and profitable. My 2c...much though it 'would be nice to have', it just isn't going to happen.

This :D

wildone_106 09-06-2011 02:46 PM

If you want choppers I believe there is a simulation called DCS:BlackShark. Probably the best chopper sim you can get, it will satisfy your need completely!!!

pupo162 09-06-2011 02:51 PM

NO. helos didnt do anything considerable in WW2. I would tolerate it by the same standards i accept the Lerche in 1946, after i have 200+ planes in game

Rattlehead 09-06-2011 02:53 PM

I'm not against the idea, provided it fits the campaign. DCS Black Shark was good fun, if completely disorientating at first.

Ze-Jamz 09-06-2011 03:03 PM

Bring it on, would look good shooting the whirly birds down :)

Would have to be Korea though and as already stated they were not up to much and were pretty much still being developed

jamesdietz 09-06-2011 03:18 PM

I'd just like the planes we've got not to behave like helicopters!

Jaws2002 09-06-2011 03:50 PM

Maybe in five years from now.

esmiol 09-06-2011 04:12 PM

why not a autogear...but no helicopter...we are in WW2 god!

Sven 09-06-2011 04:18 PM

Do you have trouble reading the topic title Esmiol?
