no word regarding anything IL2CoD related.

JG27CaptStubing 08-09-2011 03:13 PM

Since they are working on a new Graphics Engine I wouldn't count on anything just yet. I'm sure both SLI and Crossfire will be supported.

Cataplasma 08-09-2011 03:19 PM

bad news...the same old story, sli not working!

mcler002 08-09-2011 04:06 PM

Boring stuttering with my 2xgtx470s sli.
With 2Gb the game should run at 1920x1080 with everything on...
"sli compatibility" was written on specs...and so I preordered the game...

SLI is definitely working now. There are finally no flickering rivers, textures, shadows etc. and a huge performance increase.

I'm sure someone that knows about nvidia inspector could actually set up a correct profile to get even more performance, but I simply turned it on globally (so it's always on) and the results are astonishing.

This is me running the black death track at all GFX settings on MAX including SSAO. I averaged around 50 FPS. Pretty good for a benchmark track. A couple setting adjustments and I can get 80-100 FPS online at all times now.

I captured the last screen shot right before the black death track ended to show the results I got throughout.

Bliss, nothing you adjust in Nvidia CP changes anything in COD.

Not saying your Sli doesnt work though, just saying the other stuff doesnt.

Force alternate frame rendering. The reason I showed those nvidia settings was to show that particular piece of information. With AFR enabled 1 card does the odd frames while the other does the even (every other) Prior to this driver, with AFR on you'd have a flickery mess. Now you don't.

The game needs a driver to support SLI fully, I agree, but it is scaling much better than what your tests are showing. I'm almost getting an 70-80% increase in performance across the board (FPS wise). I turn off AFR, and it's as if I'm running on one card.

Try it and report back.

Edit: just logged with MSI found that with AFR1 enabled both cards stay around 70%. So there is some gain there, but obviously not scaling like it should.

The only way to play without stuttering is disable sli...with or without afr1.
Still stuttering with your settings, Bliss...or with a proper nvidia Inspector profile.
The game with 280 driver is faster but still stuttering with sli enabled...

Nvidia knows about that:

patch needed!

I don't have any stuttering with SLI enabled. That's the only way I've been playing since I put the second card in. But now that I can use AFR without flickering, I get a huge boost in FPS as well.

I lose an average of 10 FPS in the black death track going from SLI AFR 1 to no SLI

Not saying your Sli doesnt work though, just saying the other stuff doesnt.

It certainly does for me, made a profile for "Launcher" and whatever I change in the cp has the desired effect in game/in flight.

100 fps with 2x580GTXs is quite sad, don't you think?
I think we don't need a gtx680 quad-sli...I think we all need a little graphic patch ;-)

Oh I agree with you :)

I'm just glad that with this driver release, I can finally have some sort of performance increase in SLI without a flickery mess. A patch is most definitely needed!

I don't think it is sad at all... Remember SLI only gives you real increases in performance at high resolution, somewhat at 1920x1080 but major at 2600x whatever...

This game is very hard on the gpu, 100 fps is very very good, crysis (the original) still doesn't run at 100 fps on any equipment and it is 5 years old.

Here are some benchmarks, the numbers are in frames per second http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2...iast,2668.html

pick your card out of the list and see where you stand in today's tech. Everytime I upgrade the first thing I do is see where the cards fall...

Stefem 08-09-2011 11:50 PM

I'm using the 280.28 available for developers, manly add OpenGL 4.2 support (it was out the same day Kronos released OGL 4.2 spec!) but I don't know if "regular" user can download it too.
It seems there's not yet an official SLI profile

Heliocon 08-09-2011 11:52 PM

Well SLI split screen doesnt work for COD I believe, the alternative and what ROF uses is the AFR but they have had problems with it due to calculating light passing through clouds or smoke and it can lead to choppyness while playing apparently. That being said they are running a dx9 engine which sucks for SLI (most sli use/optimization is from the last 3-5 years while dx9 foundation is alot older).

Wonder if the new COD engine will work better with it? I hope they just completely cut dx9 altogether because no one is on those cards anyway.

hahaha..I just rolled back because my results were pretty good and was enjoying the hell out of flying over London without my mirror at 40fps.

I tried AFR/ComBits with the last driver and it was stuttering...I guess I should have tried it with this new driver...I just figured shits broke.(it is) Maybe if I get bored. Im sure a fix will be out soon anyway. If there not one within a week, Ill go back and try it

EDIT: No I wont.

" "IL2:Cliffs of Dover" requires a Patch that enables SLI without Errors. I have managed it under DX10 and SLI, but unfortunately only with Flickering and that is useless. The Game needs Adjustments and I think therefore exists no Driver SLI Profile."

No problems at 1680x1200; at 1920x1080px the game is smooth and playable with sli disabled, faster and stuttering with sli enabled on my oc 470gtx dual-sli (still perfectly running).
Yes, maybe today's tech is the problem, maybe the next year we'll have an optimized sim for the pixar studios' animation farm.
They're working on a "dramatic revision" of the graphic engine, maybe the answer is there...;-)

I didn't notice a huge difference, but I am so happy with the way the game runs for me already that I could really care less if it gets any better from here. Of course I also spent 800 "green backs" on video hardware, so some other's may not feel that way.

My only complaint is those nasty skins that make the server studder. It would be nice if they were slowly loaded up even if that meant somebody's aircraft was metal colored for 5 - 10 seconds.

I spent a day trying different SLI profiles with evga last week, nothing was perfect. I'm afraid only the developer can fix this, its frustrating.

That's funny, Crysis runs smooth as silk at 2650 x 1600 16x AA on my machine and CloD does not do that even at 1920 x 1600 and AA off. I get micro stuttering -quite annoying. And don't tell me CloD should run slower than Crysis because that is BS. This game should be much easier to run than Crysis as is DCS A-10 a much more demanding and complex sim than this will ever be.

Amazing internet...

Here my internet browser make my VGA work at 1/4 of GPU clock with great performance! CloD must achieve the same!!!

Compares different games is logical.
Compares softwares with completely different architecture is unlogical.
IMO the architecture of COD's graphic engine is quite dated...this is the main problem with the newer graphic cards, an optimization problem.
COD is ideally quite easy for the calculation power of a new graphic card but "speaks a different older language".
I think that now at maddox are working at an adaptation to the newer architectures.
Anyway COD will be a great sim, I trust in Oleg...
Good work and long life to Maddox games!

Your quote is certainly an incoherent bag of nonsense. just a hyper fanby nonsense comment. What is wrong with people who go nuts over criticsm of this game? They are completely one sided and in total denial.

Creating a profile for launcher.exe works for me (up to a point). Forcing AFR 1 & 2 defintely have an effect.. I can get 100% gpu utilisation on both cards, and a reported 60 fps but unfortunately the stuttering is so bad the actual fps looks more like 5.

What doesn't seem to work is the AA settings, I would be happy to be able to switch off in-game AA and use the other card for AA..

what a drag...the answer is up there...
Develop a game or a cg animation is a very long and complex process, and a lot of things concur in a good result: kind of meshes and number of triangles, texture quality, physics, lights and environment complexity, scripts accuracy, hardware and software compatibility...and so on.
Then everything have to be optimized for a good flow and incredible realtime rendering fps in our always different computers: a real mess.
Compare a game isn't relevant but ideally a good way to determinate the accuracy of a complex cg work.
I think that we have to respect and pay developers' work as they have to respect and pay our well-founded criticism...
over and out

Blackdog_kt 08-10-2011 05:17 PM

Comparisons are valid, as long as the scale is similar.

Sure, if CoD was properly optimized they wouldn't be redoing their graphics engine (and it's a good thing they are), but don't expect a game that tracks 300-500 parameters for your aircraft alone (damageable components and the CEM module) over a huge map (map is loaded in segments, but object positional data is tracked for all segments and not just the one the player is in) to run at the same visual quality and maintain similar frame rates to a shooter that uses a few square kms of terrain at best.

I think it was Bliss who said that the mission running on the Syndicate server has about 15000 objects and 5000 of those are AA guns (which come with extra processing load, they have to take aim, fire and can cause extra effects on aircraft). The map is loaded in grids of 10x10km or so according to Luthier, but the state and position of all those objects is tracked all the time regardless of grid.

And before someone says that a lot of it is just the server crunching the numbers and passing the data on to the clients, it's completely doable to have missions with a similar load run in single player mode as well. There's a guy over on the simHQ forums who was building a map template. He has populated both sides of the channel except for London with anything you can think of (road blocks, static convoys, flak, pubs, the whole lot).

His stated aim is to have it so that wherever you fly you'll either find something of interest to look at in terms of immersion, something to shoot at or something that shoots at you (in other words, there's flak guns of all calibers covering almost the entire coast on both sides of the channel).

When asked about how it performs, he said that apart from the increased loading times, once in the mission he can fly with identical performance to someone who flies on an empty map. That's not a small feat to achieve and i think i don't even have to point out how important it is for the future when we'll be having online wars and dynamic campaigns.

On the other hand, if Crysis2 is anything like the first one it probably has less than a couple thousand items to track at any one time and i'm being way generous here, most probably it uses either a "bubble around the player" method, a set of predetermined spawn points for hostiles or a combination of the two to populate its map.

I'm not dissing it, i'm just stating the obvious: the scales are different, so the load on the PC increases appropriately.

Either way you look at it, CloD is not the most amazing and complex game ever written. BTW, I used A-10 as well as an example (a fairer comparison) which is far more complex and far more realistic and far nicer graphics than CloD. CloD is not that amazing, that it should need the fastest computer money can buy to run it on full. It could be the best WW2 sim ever if it gets fixed. Everyone knows its unfinished and it should run better. The fact that people can run every other more technically challenging sims/games full out and not this one is a HUGE red flag. Sorry the truth is not pretty sometimes, but if it gets fixed, it might be very pretty.

Yes CoD seems to have performance dependent more on the GPU than CPU, but it shouldn't be forgotten that Crysis is just another dumb FPS, while CoD is a sim requiring far more complex interactions between a more highly-loaded CPU and GPU etc.

justme262 08-11-2011 09:09 AM

Yes SLI definitely works with 280.26 drivers
BUT...
SLI in AFR1= 59-60fps and constant stutters
SLI disabled =45fps when low enough to see grass, 59-60 fps the rest of the time.

http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/846/codsli.jpg

justme262 08-11-2011 09:41 AM

This is strange ...
I just disabled SLI in Nvidia control panel and ran the last quick mission.
It ran like dog shit. 35fps with micro stutter flying low over the ground.

Enabled SLI in CP ...BUT left the launcher 3d options SLI rendering mode set on "Nvidia recommended"
Ran the same mission and it ran perfectly 45-60 fps no stutter.
The 1 card was 100% and 2 card was 10% but both cards have core, shader clocks and memory graphing high.
http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/8162/clodwtf.jpg
For some reason it runs better with SLI generically turned on but then "launcher" set to Nvidia recommended.

A-10 Warthog is not a dumb fps game and it is more complex than CloD. It looks great and runs great. No more excuses for broken CloD please. BTW, when A-10 was in beta it ran like CloD but was a better sim with less broken.

That is strange. BTW SLI does not use the memory from both cards, only one so it would show 100% of one card. So what you are seeing is one card being used the other 10% or not being used. In effect, no SLI.

Not making excuses for CloD, just saying that Crysis isn't necessarily a great basis for comparison, but your example of A-10 definitely is.

Yep, I use the same exact settings here. SLI enabled w/280.19 and I'm getting similar quality results. But it is showing that its not really working to its potential. I show around 10% as well using msi afterburner to monitor.

For me, 280.26 increased this number, but made the game unplayable with stutters.

For now, I'm happy with how the game is playing with 280.19, SLI "enabled" with second card at ~10%....cant wait to see what it runs like when they fix it!

Ok, apologies via pm or on forum please Havoc,

Below you can clearly see that Luthier thinks SLI is fixed, he claims we are waiting for an Nvidia driver, but this was back in May. As anyone with a bit of knowledge knows you dont need to have a profile in an Nvidia driver you can make your own, but like the guys here who have tried it have been saying it still doesn't work.

Il-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs Of Dover Retail Patch v 1.01.14550
Finally! It should be available in a few hours via a regular steam update.

Patch readme below:

The latest patch continues to improve on overall performance and multiplayer functionality, as well as adding new gameplay options such as new Quick missions.

NOTE: This patch is incompatible with previous game versions when playing online.

The current patch contains the following changes:

GRAPHICS
* Added ATI Crossfire support. NVidia SLI support will become available when a profile for the game is added in an upcoming official driver release;
* Reworked the lighting system in the game to improve the visual experience;
* Added True full-screen mode. The game was previously playing in a stretched window; that mode is also still available. Switch between windowed, pseudo (stretched window) and true full screen modes in the Video Options. NOTE: If you are running an ATI video card and you notice reduced performance in True full-screen mode, please switch back to Pseudo to improve framerate;
* Greatly improved performance over large cities, especially with Buildings Detail settings set below Very High. NOTE: if you do experience stutters over cities with Building Detail set to Very High, please consider turning it down. Even setting this to Medium will have almost no noticeable effect on visual quality of the game;
* Introduced background landscape loading that slowly creates landscape under the player's camera. You can now quickly switch from England to France with virtually no slow-downs. Performance gain is most noticeable on CPUs with four+

DCS-A10C runs perfectly on my oldish system (see my sig). When I purchased it as a pre-retail beta it was far, far worse than CoD's first pre-patch offering. Beta A-10 would crash repeatedly on me when I was in setup options trying to assign keys to my HOTAS. When I flew A-10 it would be fine for about 5 minutes, then abruptly it would ignore my control inputs and ultimately careen out-of-control into the ground. I duly reported these glitches at the SimHQ forum and subsequent patches/updates cured it all by the time it went full retail.

Certainly A-10 is a generation (or two or three) ahead of CoD in a number of areas - instrumentation, weapons systems, Comms, etc. etc. etc. (long list). What I'd be curious to know is the relative complexities of the damage modelling. At first blush the A-10 aircraft has far more electronic systems to be disrupted, obviously. But is the incursion of individual bullets & shrapnel bits modelled in A-10 as intricately as CoD or is it done more as a series of close-grouped damage bubbles within the A-10 aircraft fuselage & wing structures?

I never had any of your problems with A-10 and it ran WAY better than CloD even in early beta. They warned purchasers of its early state and optimized it in a later beta and it ran even better. It did not crash, it did have full AA and it did have better terrain, better manual, better sound, better comms......etc. etc. It had minor bugs in beta compared to the multiple major problems CloD has to date. CloD was released way too early and was not released as an unfinished product.

PC Pilot magazine uses words like "jaw-dropping" "the new bar for combat flight simulation" "blew our socks off" to describe A-10 in their Platinum Award assessment of A-10. Didn't hear that type of thing in their very kind assessment of CloD. As for damage modelling in A-10. Superb. Every bullet hole etc.
Its a joke to excuse all that is wrong with CloD as a result of its amazingness, when clearly a superior sim like A-10 did not do so. This might be a great WW2 sim that is a lot of fun if they finish it, and I sincerely hope they do. It is not and will not be the greatest sim ever, but who cares. Right now its a botch up and I look forward to the finished product in all its glory.

Go here, lowest score is 9.0 http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/dc...g/user-reviews

Agreed. I bought it pre-alpha/beta and couldn't even get all my controls set before a constant crashing to desktop. Once it was finally playable I spent a good 4-5 hours learning how to take off and another 4-5 on the weapons. After that, the game became boring so I stopped playing it. Take off, shoot at tank/truck, go back home. They promised dedicated server support and still have yet to deliver on it as well.

I keep seeing a trend from new people joining these forums to troll talking about other games. I'm assuming it's because the games they like have noone playing them?

And back on topic: The drivers do work great if you do what I said.

ATAG_Snapper 08-11-2011 05:41 PM

So Connie, do you LIKE A-10? LOL

It's really too bad that Ubisoft/1C: Maddox Games didn't follow Eagle Dynamic's formula of doing an early paid-for beta release. With all the troubles my system was having at onset, I wasn't angered - just concerned. After all, EA was very upfront about it being a beta release AND they would be continuing work on optimizing. Communication is key, and EA held up their end and delivered. As I mentioned. A-10 eventually did (and still does) run very well on my system. You don't have to sell me on it! ;)

However, as with many in this CoD forum, WW2 sims are my thing; especially Battle of Britain. Most of the superlative sophisticated features of A-10 are lost on me, so at a gut having-fun level CoD will, hopefully, become THE best sim for me.

skouras 08-11-2011 06:05 PM

this drivers is no go for me.more stutters and some fps drop
i reinstall the 275.33
everything good now
dunno why though

Blackdog_kt 08-11-2011 06:05 PM

Just a friendly heads-up. Comparisons, argumentation and tangential discussions are ok as long as:

1) The original thread is not dragged off-topic
2) It's not done to gain leverage in "point-scoring" matches
3) People remain open to different opinions and don't try to pass theirs as absolute fact over everyone else's

To cut a long story short, if this is pulled off-topic and turns into a slagging match i'll be moving the relevant posts to the arguments and speculation megathread, along with any posts that quote or answer them directly in order to completely prune the inflammatory material off the thread.

Argue your point, but remain respectful of the OP's intention in creating the thread (ie, he wanted to discuss the new driver's use in relation to CoD), take some time to use proper language and try not to bait, provoke, or offend other posters.

If one is offended by different opinions and interpretations of known facts to the point that one feels compelled to answer back in a provocative or otherwise non-constructive manner, then open internet forums are not a good place for one to frequent.

My job is to ensure everyone can have their say, as long as their say is not out of tune with the scope and purposes of this community and forum and not attacking the opinions of others or limiting their ability to express their opinion, in which case i'm forced to intervene. And i will.

Doesn't make SLI work on my SLI machine. At this point, CloD works better on my single card machine. Monitoring shows only one core working and of course 100% video memory. SLI uses only one cards memory anyway, so SLI is a detriment at this point for CloD, because it uses so much video memory. A single card with 1.5GB is better than 2 in SLI with 1.0 GB each.

ATAG_Bliss 08-11-2011 10:32 PM

Then you're not doing something right. AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering) means that one card will draw even frames while one card will draw odd frame. Some games do this by splitting the screen in 1/2, others by drawing certain aspects while the other card handles the rest. Obviously, without a real profile for IL2COD it's not scaling to it's full potential. It is indeed scaling though, and I get a 10FPS average increase on the black death track on max gfx settings with this setup. I've also gone from 50ish with one card to 80-100 FPS online with SLI on. If AFR is enabled you will never have a situation where one card is doing 100% and another 10%. With AFR enabled both cards should output almost equally. Mine stay around 70% usage.

It's only when I use Nvidia's recommended SLI settings (not the settings I said to use) that one card does 100% and the other 10%.

Oh, they don't. They just don't live in here 24/7 and there's only three of us.

Thread cleanup performed, relevant posts moved to the arguments and speculations megathread in the pilot's lounge section.

The following apply to all, not just you:

Don't act like one person's version of the story somehow carries more weight than the rest. CoD ran fine for me after the first patch and does so for many people, others still have problems. Same with A-10, some people had issues during the beta and some had less of them. Not everyone had the same experience as you did and it's statistically impossible for all of them to be liars on a "fanboy" mission, just like it's statistically impossible for everyone who faces problems with CoD to be a liar on a "whiner" mission.

Same applies for facts, different interpretations of the same one can exist: depending on what aspect of gameplay is more important to each person, they might be more, less or completely not annoyed with certain issues, depending on their general mentality their speculation on why the release was handled such and such or how/if/when the sim gets adequately patched will also differ.

Let's not be narrow-minded here and strive for the impossibility of absolute uniformity, shall we?

There are a lot of valid and useful ways to express criticism and propose changes. Venting is not one of them and drags other posters down into similar behavior.

And then i take my bulldozers and shovels and move all the rubble here: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=25051
so that the people who are actually interested in the original topic of the thread can have a civil discussion like normal people talking about a hobby, without having their eyes bleed in the process due to reading the same things taking place among the same people over and over again.
;)

Thanks Bliss. What cards are you using?

ATAG_Bliss 08-11-2011 10:38 PM

I've got 2 580's (3gb versions)

skouras 08-11-2011 10:56 PM

hey guys i'got a problem
when i start to install the new drivers

1st attempt I checked "yes" to install Nivida Update, which caused all items to fail.

2nd attmept I did not check or choose to install Nividia Update & all other components installed correctly.
anybody had this

ATAG_Bliss 08-11-2011 11:02 PM

Every time I install new drivers I get a blue screen. So I always do it with safe mode and it's worked every time since then. Maybe try installing them in safe mode?

+1. And I never install the updater or any of the other rubbish, just the video driver.

skouras 08-11-2011 11:12 PM

no blue screen for me
but i can't get to install the updater
everything else install great
anyway to tell you the truth i don't need it
because i install the new drivers manually and not via updater

Not me. I never get a blue screen, you must be doing something wrong.

Let me know how it works for you skouras. Remember, don't use a game profile. Do all your settings globally.

=FI=Scott 08-12-2011 02:30 AM

I always do the following istalling new drivers and it seems to work well for me.

1. Uninstall the old driver via Control Panel/Uninstall Program.
2.Restart PC in safe mode without internet connection.
3.Run a driver cleaner-I use driversweeper and clear out old Nvidia display drivers.
4.Re-start normally (but without internet connection) and run the driver install.
5. Restart with Internet connection and re-do settings etc.

This has always worked for me. As to the Nvidia update thing I don't use it. Nvidia bundles up a load of useless rubbish with their drivers and this is another example. If you want to update your drivers better to do it yourself.

Back on the subject of SLI, what concerns me is when Luthier makes statements like this, the clouds didn't make the last patch because they conflict with SLI.

Quote:

Unfortunately two major things we cut out of the beta version of the patch did not make it into this release. Distant 2D clouds continue to conflict with NVidia SLI.
I would like to know how Luthier knows that the clouds conflict with SLI when SLI doesn't work, how did he test that?? What driver did he use to get SLI working? What profile did he use to test this?
Its these kind of crazy excuses that set my alarm bells ringing. During development Luthier claimed that SLI was working but couldn't show it working because he didn't have an SLI rig, so unless he has recently purchased am SLI setup any information he gives us about SLI is going to be pure guesswork on his part.

furbs 08-12-2011 08:13 AM

Since most people cant get SLI to work or dont have 2 cards, why cant we have the 2D clouds anyway?

maybe they are to be released "shortly" again...

SLI has not worked correctly since day 1, I think that the clouds conflict with SLI is just a smoke screen although I could be wrong, but if I am wrong I would like to know which driver Luthier is using to get SLI working and how he has set is SLI profile up. To be honest I am not expecting an answer from him on this.

Is the new driver defenitley better than 275.33?

Personally I can't see any noticable improvements in either CoD or RoF.

He said they broke SLI support just before the initial release, presumably that's how they know as it was once working. What drivers were working is irrelevant because they broke it and it doesn't work. (Probably with that Epilepsy filter)

Since then they claim to have fixed SLI, read previous posts.

LcSummers 08-12-2011 05:41 PM

So i wil wait and not install the new driver. Thought its been a little bit faster.

Thanks for some hints.

skouras 08-13-2011 11:06 PM

i roll back to 275.33 drivers
the new ones is crappy for me..[the BFBC2 had worst performance]

No issues for me with IL2 or BFBC2 for that matter, of course I do not install the 3D crap anymore anytime they update their drivers...

skouras 08-14-2011 01:14 PM

what the 3d has to do with the performance:confused:
i've always install them and never had any issue..

Yeah I had the same problem with these drivers, BFBC2 seemed very notchy, so also rolled back.

Funny as always Tree_UK , people talk about things they know nothing about, oh well, this certainly is not new...

Maybe Luthier as more important things to do so I will answer to your question, devs can rename the executable to invoke a specific profile to force AFR mode and make the driver skip any form of inter-GPU synchronizations as well as common form of CPU-GPU synchronization.
This will lead to maximum expected scaling in that system, but may introduce rendering artifacts since the driver is no longer performing all the operations required to guarantee correctness in AFR mode.

I dunno, it was recommended to uninstall them somewhere in these forums and it helped when I did, so I haven't been installing them anymore, and really, I dont use them so why bother.

skouras 08-14-2011 06:08 PM

thanks
for the info mate:rolleyes:
