iCockpit: IL2 cockpit on iPad/iPhone

Hi,
I'm currently working on an app for iOS which allows you to view the cockpit instruments on your iPhone/iPad. There is still a lot of work left but I give you here a little preview to get your opinion.

Here are some screenshots

EDIT: May 6th: beta version screens

If necessary, I'll port it also to Android.

cheers,
Tex ;)

Don't laugh. They are doing some great things with the iPad and the DCS: A-10C Warthog sim. Check out the thread here:

cool idea- been waiting to see how long before someone did this:grin:

as a confirmed udpspeed addict:rolleyes:- how easy is it to change graphics? (and maybe needle behaviour to suit?)

good luck with this project

If you mean use custom graphics in my app, I don't plan to allow that in the 1st version. Maybe in the future ;)

looking good mate

BMCha 08-02-2011 12:04 AM

I'm not entirely sure how the backend of this works (or what capabilities are there), but are you reading the variometer from the sim or are you calculating it based off of the altimeter? I ask because it seems to be pointing to the exact vertical speed, while the actual instrument has a bit of a lag time to the display.

AndyJWest 08-02-2011 01:53 AM

From my experiments with DeviceLink, I think that the variometer readings it gives are 'instantaneous', or at least change more rapidly then the cockpit ones - the latter are probably based on a weighted average, which would be more realistic - the actual instrument probably won't respond very rapidly..

Right. The values that I'm getting from the game are "more precise" as the values displayed in the games. They are instantaneous as Andy said. I might want to add kind of filter to make it more realistic.

Tex-Twil 08-08-2011 06:53 PM

some little progress ;)

And another "yes please" from me. Would it work with a twin engine aircraft, or does it need more work to add dual engine gauges?

Regards, a P-38 nut. :)

good to hear that.

I'm currently very busy at work so I have almost no time for the development of this project that's why I haven't posted any updates recently. As soon as I have more time I will continue working on this.

I'm busy with other projects so I kind of stopped working on this one. I will though continue as soon as I have more time. A beta version is a good idea so that you people can test it. I will try to organize this in January.

Good to hear. I'd love to see an android one!

Great! Thanks for the update...

Tex-Twil 01-17-2012 08:10 PM

Soo .. I'm working in this app again and I'm now focusing on the map view. You'll be able to see the map as it is in the game on the device.

The map gets updated live so all what is moving in the game is moving on the iPad. Objectives and waypoints are also displayed there ;) I will respect the game's difficulty meaning that if the games does not show the icons and paths on the map I will not show it neither.

Btw, if you are interested, I will post more minor development updates on my Twitter.

Hi,
I could use some beta testers with iPads. If you are interested PM me your email address and your iPad version.

Howdy Tex

As you know, I'm into using my iPhone, iPad and USB mini LCDs for
Both FalconBMS and DCS-A10c. I have used a glass cockpit gauges
To display instruments for LoMac and Il2 to second video port and
Monitor too.

I'm looking forward to testing your iOS apps for Il2....

Do you plan to make this work for both Il2-1946 and COD?

After you get the first release out, may I suggest gauge packs
For the different airforces?

Like a set for the IJN, Luftwaffe, RAF, Soviets

CoD would be great of course but I think it's not easy to get the instruments readings from the game there. I'll look into it. Currently I have only generic RAF gauges and I'm almost ready with generic German ones. I will try to make it possible for people (moders) to use their own graphics in the app .. but only if I see pple are actually using the app :)

Noticed on your twitter site that icockpit is back being worked on. Please keep posting here on your progress. Looking forward to testing out the program (mainly the map) on my Ipod touch...

Yep I'm working on it again on evenings. I'm looking forward for a 1st release too :)

Tex-Twil 05-02-2012 05:20 AM

Should the map be fullscreen or just a popup ?

Aracno 05-02-2012 08:45 AM

Full screen!

mrburns 05-02-2012 02:17 PM

Choosible...
If it can't be a choice, I'd vote for full screen

Tex-Twil 05-02-2012 02:21 PM

it will actually be a configurable ;)

mrburns 05-09-2012 02:21 PM

If you need a beta tester, I have an IPOD Touch and run IL2-HSFX5.0

yes. I'm facing a bit of a problem. This app needs an IL2 mod that I've made but I cannot find an easy-to-use mod enabler so that people can enable my mod easily. I could release the app without using the mod but then the map would not be available.

mrburns 06-27-2012 11:16 PM

Can't they just put it in a mods folder as they do with any non-jsgme mod?

That's what I'm wondering too. I'd bet everybody has one mod pack or Another. Make it to just drop in the mods folder. I can test if you want. I have iPad 1 and 3. I've got UP, HSFX and DBW installs plus stock 411.

SV_MadisonV44 07-08-2012 09:27 AM

Awesome !

Can you detail the mini-map features ?

Is it a complete one including planes and front position (like the Mds for example) or just a duplicated version of the map image where we can navigate (which would be very helpfull anyway...) ?

mrburns 07-16-2012 07:43 PM

Is it available yet? :-)

Achileus 08-14-2012 12:54 PM

any progress ? news ?
