Dark Tree mod v1 by AliFish.

http://i.imgur.com/jiAkx.jpg

nothing to see here

Enjoy. Points to note:

close tree models blend with far tree representations. Which is why you should use this mod as opposed to the other. I have tried to maintain some variations via darkening indivisual trees however the look wasnt very convincing so i went with the overall colour look.

Do not use online and then blame me for any problems! :)

ok ive included the necessary kegety files, the .dll and the launcher.exe config and an backup launcher.exe config file.

put all files in the rar into your il2COD route folder (except the read me file) overwriting the existing launcher.exe.config you had in there.

add "-mod=DarkTreesv1AF" in the launch options. via right clicking IL2 in steam library.

thats right click IL2 goto properties then launch options and add the afore mentioned command line. load game as normal.

Removal:
if you want to remove the mod and the kegety files simply delete "DarkTreesv1AF folder" the "Kegety.dll" & the "Launcher.exe.config" then rename "backup_Launcher.exe.config" to "Launcher.exe.config". also remove the command line from the
"set launch options".

Nice, thanks a lot :)

David198502 07-08-2011 04:31 PM

thx ali!now its working

Ali Fish 07-08-2011 04:50 PM

cool now show me your screenshots with nice pictures and buggy pictures if there is any. also ive darkened the forrest carpets ( i think lol ). when using low trees obviously trees are more sparse but how does the carpet look. good or bad. ???

David198502 07-08-2011 05:13 PM

hey ali!sorry but i cannot make screenshots anymore since one or two patches ago.i dont know where the pics go if i hit my "make a screenshot" button.
this mod looks way better than the other darkertrees mod!i dont know exactly, but i think you used a different colour, and the trees look better in distance than with the other mod.

yes you darkend the ground under the trees as well.
it looks good!less lime green on the map!i especially like this effect in cities where those really bright green spaces showed up between the buildings. now they look like dark summer grass.much better!thx!

btw: please dont give up your ground texture mod!i have faith in you!

BigPickle 07-08-2011 07:29 PM

Stunning mate, yet again a community modder does what 1C fail to do. My hats off to you Mr Fish :)

JG1_Luckystrike 07-08-2011 07:45 PM

amazing

Bewolf 07-08-2011 08:47 PM

Hmm, I think the far side of the trees in the shadows are perfect now. Shadow sides in summer really are that dark when looking from a distance. The sides facing the sun however, are too dark. A tree really isn't much darker in color then the grass surrounding it.

Very nice work Ali,thanks very much for this superb mod.

there is no specular level shader for the trees and no self shadowing and no shadowing of nearby adjacent trees. This is why we have to darken the trees in the first place. in theory the trees are correctly designed for when standing proud on there own. but not in forrest groups. shadows hit the ground not the surrounding trees. if the trees had that probable pc crippling effect, Then the trees would look dark anyway without my help.

without shadowing at the very least this can not be. sorry. but please take this request as an example of how far we can go to far with attention to detail. we can never expect that extra detail in fact. much like alot of the requests to have better scenery. its a flightsim, its as good as it'll get for the near future. see the 10 threads about it on the forum lol.

what the tree system requires is strategic placement of varying coloured trees not variation and randomisation accross the whole country. dark trees for forrests, lighter trees for sole standing and slightly darker for small clumps.

*nods* I suppose one has to compromise in this. Maybe this all makes more sense once the ground textures are adjusted a bit as well?
Anyways, always had a huge respect for those taking the effort to improve games for others, so honest respect for the work you do

JumpingHubert 07-09-2011 11:44 AM

funny to see, how a couple of modders show the developers what to do..

hanuristi 07-09-2011 01:48 PM

Good job with the mod, but you might want to include the original readme for the dll and mention who made it instead of claiming it your own work.

adonys 07-09-2011 02:19 PM

calm down, mate, he hasn't claimed anything. kegetys' dll was only introduced as there were still people not knowing how to use a mod, to help them.

If you take time out to read all the posts Ali mentions the original author of the dll in post 5.;)

Ali Fish 07-09-2011 09:56 PM

your probally correct as i did include it. There was no maliciousness on my part by through not including it and i certainly dont claim kegety's files to be work of mine. Anyway the sooner we no longer need kegety's the better. i just felt instead of answering questions id chuck it in there. And just incase i get blamed for a potential ban. Dont use it online.

Jatta Raso 07-31-2011 02:28 AM

i was trying to do a video showing off Jaffa's and this mod combined, but the tracks' sound recording keeps letting me down, so what the hell, at least you can see Ali's part in it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvMQI-gb-GU
btw Jaffa's sound is much better than the vanilla, love the spit's MG. well done you both. ;)

this looks so much better than the vanilla version it is amazing. Is the sea colour the out of the box sim or is that a mod too? the trees really do look great and the landscape looks better than vanilla as well.

just tree changes, but that simple change brings alot into a realism context that wasnt in context before.

ATAG_Snapper 08-24-2011 06:31 PM

Works very well on my system. I simply copied the relevant files and piggy-backed (pasted) 'em into Jafa's MODS directory exactly as I did for Das Attorney's excellent Spitfire_Cannon mods.

Ali Fish 09-07-2011 05:31 PM

the mod still does its magic with the recent beta patch update. i believe it does the new beta patch even more justice.

pre computed atmospheric scattering is what has shown our scenery in a new light, pardon the pun !

i did exactly as before popped the folder the dll, and the launcher config into il2COD folders, applied the stat command -mod=blahblahblah and it works same as before.

the new patch contains a new launcher.exe.config (to load the new FMOD sound dlls), so you'll have to re-add kegetys' dll next to those too.

Ali Fish 09-09-2011 12:48 PM

hi adonys, got a link to that new launcher.cfg ?

the reason i ask is because..... i didnt see any new additions to that config when i checked it against the old one.

Jumo211 09-09-2011 01:30 PM

Previous old entry :

<value>parts\core\steam_api.dll</value>

New launcher entry with new patch :

<value>parts\core\steam_api.dll;parts\core\fmodex. dll;parts\core\fmod_event.dll</value>

Look for older shorter entry line inside launcher.cfg and replace with this latest longer one :)

Just a quick Q, seeing as JSGME works with clod (I am using it with the beta patch) is it possible to run this... through that?

Just because this whole shortcut thing is bringing back suppressed arma2 memories (I ran out of room in the shortcut line due to running so many mods).

probally will work yeah,

eventually we will have the SDK so i suspect in the future our mode will be run from inside a container and selectable via ingame menu's. not to mention the necessity to harness steam VAC into the equation so no need to worry.

fireflyerz 09-10-2011 08:10 PM

Anyone been able to open up the new sound files...?

Ali Fish 10-10-2011 01:13 PM

anyone tried the dark tree mod with latest beta ? is it ok still or needs a fix ?(not got CLOD installed)

adonys 10-10-2011 01:58 PM

I think it's still ok, I'm flying with it activated all the time, and haven't noticed anything unusual with the trees yet.

God I miss the colours and lighting from this patch. This looks beautiful.

ingsoc84 12-21-2011 02:26 AM

If I can download it I'll try it ;) What could it possibly hurt?

ingsoc84 12-21-2011 04:49 AM

Hmmmm used Jgsme all the time for SH5..very easy to use.this though looks to me a bit harder..I'll wait for an easier way ;:)

Ali Fish 12-22-2011 04:47 PM

JSGME in this instance i think makes things possibly more complicated unless your using other mods of course.

RickRuski 12-22-2011 06:40 PM

Yep, mine works fine. Installed in JSGME works great. Can't get some of the other mods to work though just yours,Jafa sound and the reticle mod.

Merry Xmas

Rick

Foofighter 05-21-2012 03:04 PM

Forgive my ignorance, but it this a pure pretty mod or does it help with performance also with trees enabled?

JG52Krupi 05-21-2012 03:37 PM

It's only a visual mod, I am not sure if it works or not with the current alpha though.

SQB 06-20-2012 04:12 AM

Is this still working with the latest version of the game?
