Ju-88 joyride through the Vallée de la Risle to Le Havre - youtube video by me

More Luftwaffe flying this time...

I never went up in the Junkers Ju-88 before, so it was quite a daunting prospect. I still haven't learnt about bombing, but I thought a little joyride could be nice. The landscapes around the Seine are so beautiful, so why not give them a low-level visit? I also like Le Havre: it is really cool to see a big city draped over hills like that.

The Ju-88 is a pleasure to fly. Very powerful, but you still feel a lot of heft and inertia in the flight model. The downwards view from the pilots position is a total joy, but I can imagine it would feel rather exposed in real life! - I am not keen at all on the stiff sitting next to me: strange choice by the modelling team I must say!

If anybody make a nice bombing mission with the Ju-88 I'd be happy to try it out!

Anyway, enjoy. Comments always very welcome!

1.If you were going sight seeing why take the bombs. You might be able to use less runway if you lose the bombs before takeoff.

2.Do the clouds popup in real time or is it part of the jerky video capture?

Walshy 07-06-2011 04:44 PM

I actually enjoy your videos mate great veiwing, thanks for this one as well!! :) :-D

I like the challenge of taking off heavy!

If you see pop up then it cannot be blamed on the video capture for sure... :)

Oh, btw, and I think the exterior bombs look cool!

Troll2k 07-06-2011 06:40 PM

With the bombs loaded you scare all the guys down at the pub.

Hello Freycinet,

great video, now i want to try the JU 88 too. Till now didnt tried it so now i will.

I realized that the tail wheel of "Albert" s bird was not retracted. Its weired or not? Normally it was retracted. Maybe a hydraulics failure.

Anyway, do you make those missions in the mission builder?

I have another question on the Stuka. I cant load the 50Kg boms on the wing, any suggestions or is it broken. Making a ferry flight from England to France i couldnt load it.

Thanks for this video, i am hungry to test the JU 88.

Cheers

Lovely video of great game. I too enjoy many 'pleasure flights'.

It's hard to believe there is a war on sometimes ;)

Well spotted re: the tail wheel! - Yeah, that is weird, because on my Ju-88 it retracted fine.

Yes, in the FMB.

Sorry, cannot help you on the Stuka... - Someone else?

Excellent video. Passed my lunch break nicely. :-)

The guy next to you seemed to be a bit worried. Maybe he's heard stories about you flying.

Good job mate.

still the best and most reliable way to choose a bombload is to save and name the specific bombloads for every plane in the FMB. dont forget to ckeck the fuzes there also !

as example if you choose the levelbombing fuze for a BF109 SC250 bombload , you might get proplems in a dive attack ;)

Freycinet 07-07-2011 05:30 PM

Thx for that info... - I'll be looking more into bombing at some point for the vids!

pehy 07-08-2011 10:34 PM

The next nice vid, thanks! First laughting was about the trip to terra incognita. Nice idea, to show the border between map and the nirvana! The stiffy crewmen are an real showstopper for bomber-missions. I'll hope, 1c will find a way, to animate them for more authentic gameplay!

A very simple animation that randomly runs every few minutes of a head moving and scratching an arm perhaps and the gunner who is laying on his stomach perhaps re-shifting in his lying position and perhaps moving an arm to stretch it??????

Thanks for helping me JG53. ;)

Lets try it out.

PS: This was in a quick mission when starting at the ground with the Blenheim. There i have chosen the JU 87 but no 50 Kg bombs.

S!

Didn't Luthier say they had ' a shelf full of crew animations ready to go into the sim once fps issues were all sorted'? So lets hope that's soon.

Anyway, nice video, I saw areas of the map
I'd yet to discover, the industrial areas looked great I thought, great quality vid :cool:8-)

addman 07-09-2011 11:03 AM

Even B-17 II had randomly moving crew and that was some time ago.:) But that was a game, CloD is a sim and therefore excused from such mundane details.;)

Freycinet 07-10-2011 01:08 AM

Wauw, I now have more than 100 youtube subscribers and in a few hours I should be up to 40,000 views for my movies! - I'm pretty amazed by that :)

Thx for your kind words, that's why I keep making these!

Yeah, an animated crewmember would be great. I actually think it might be best just to cut him out, but well...

Zappatime, it is a huge map and I suspect there are quite a few Easter eggs in it. For sure there are some beautiful areas. It is actually an enormous piece of modelling and I'm quite sad that the map gets so much grief, since I think it is a monumental undertaking that has mostly turned out superb. It does look quite bad at noon, though, so I always set the time to either morning or afternoon, for those lush, rich colours.

ATAG_Doc 07-10-2011 04:54 AM

Very good job! It's like I was really there.

Freycinet 07-10-2011 07:54 PM

Ah, were you that morose fellow sitting next to me? - The modellers really did an own goal with that guy... :)

hiro 07-10-2011 10:48 PM

good as always, I'm saving up for a pc, to play this game . . .

nice nice nice!

every time you post a video I hear this kid screaming and pointing, "See! It works! I toldja so! It works!"

dflion 07-11-2011 06:57 AM

Another great vid Freycinet

My main rig was sadly 'heavily spiked' in the weekend with a power surge, so I am going through 'major withrawal symptoms' while I claim insurance.
Luckily, I am still in touch in the forum with my laptop.

Even though this was a 'Junkers joyflight' it showed you how much potential COD has. The Ju88 looks like it is a delight to fly (even with a load of external bombs)? You certainly have got a lot of members interested in flying the aircraft with this vid.

I am now looking at a 'Ju88 mini campaign' - see what you have done!

The very sad feature of the vid was the poor engine sounds, which hopefully will be fixed-up very soon. Can't you imagine the proper 'throaty roar' of a Junkers engine, inside and outside the cockpit?

DFLion

Freycinet 07-11-2011 10:48 PM

Well, the sound engine is being overhauled, so with all the grief the developers have been getting I hope they'll get it right this time! Jumo growl on the way, hopefully... :)

Thanks for your kind words.
