Tracers move too fast

The tracers and puffs of smoke when you hit a plane look like it's in fast forward. Is there a way to slow this down in a setting someplace? When you slow motion it down one click using the keyboard button it looks much better. This has bugged me from the start.

Here is a tracer firefight in real life , they move alot slower.

www.liveleak.com/view?i=8f4_1309570638

tried posting a video. Along with everything in the game , the forums seem broken too. What a surprise.....

JG5_emil 07-03-2011 08:12 PM

That is airsoft with gunfire dubbed lol.

:D

kristorf 07-03-2011 09:08 PM

Outgoing trace are fast, incoming seem slower until they get close

kedrednael 07-03-2011 09:44 PM

Seriously, how could a person be standing there inside the incomming line of tracer fire. Almost everyone there would die I think, if this were real guns. So Emil is right.

winny 07-03-2011 10:25 PM

It's Airsoft

Here's the original full video.

LMAO!

Enough said guys! Let's wrap this one up and call it a night shall we!?

My oh my, how many times have we faceplanted down this dead ended road...

The road ends where a sign says "Dude, you know there's a search function?"

Sorry this one really cracked me up! Airsoft! LOL! I'm glad we have national service here so most people know what tracers look like and won't fall for a youtube airsoft movie :D

CWMV 07-03-2011 10:48 PM

Sweet jesus...
Ya tracers look really pretty from the sending end or a distance. Hell watch some of the footage from the taking of Baghdad and you'll see all these pretty tracers floating up into the sky...
Until your on the receiving end. If anything the tracers do not move fast enough in game. In real life they look like they are moving at the speed of light.
Its really a sickening feeling when you get lit up for the first time.

Sternjaeger 07-03-2011 11:18 PM

one thing needs to be said though, tracers' trajectory, esp with the heavier calibres, didn't correspond to the actual bullets trajectory, as they would have a different weight/muzzle speed.

123-Wulf-123 07-04-2011 12:18 AM

I guess all credibility has been destroyed by posting that link of "AIRSOFT" tracer.

Here's an idea.... go and watch real gunfire and real tracer before you make posts as an "expert".

You obviously have NO IDEA what real tracer fire looks like, and has been said before, slow going out and insanely fast coming in, coupled with the sound.

Who cares what the video is. Tthe footage is real yes? Fact is , ingame you fire 303's and they are going at light speed. It's complete crap.

We care. You are comparing in game .303 with that video, in which projectiles are 5-6 tmes slower than real .303 and weight way less,so loose speed very quickly.

now that's a valid explanation, supported by adequate evidence, isn't it?

Ze-Jamz 07-04-2011 10:23 AM

That video doest and can't carry any weight in this thread...

However on a side note I'd like to see the tracers re worked slightly and not so straight looking

Oh the footage is real, but it is of a bunch of virgins out playing soldiers with expensive 'toys', I have only just managed to supress the tears from laughing....every time I heard the mouth breather say 'viper 6 going into position' on RT I just creased up, but I digress, 6mm glow in the dark plastic balls have no similarity to .303 or 7.9mm MG ammunition, given that tracer rounds are loaded intermittently in a belt...say every 5th round is tracer, the 6mm bb's were all glowing......maybe they might look more akin to a stream of rounds from a high RoF weapon like a gatling, but of course those bb's were flying across distances that were litterally within stone throwing range, check the shilouetted figures on the horizon.

Yes they know that they are too thick and can't seem to be able to change that but perhaps if they were made a bit more tear drop shaped then that would look better (and before someone jumps on me I do know that water droplets are spherical  ).

Getting fed up with these kids who slate the game but haven't got a clue what they're on about. Would love to see him pinned down by a real 30 cal. Think he'd soon change his mind then.

Original gun cams ran at least at half speed and airsoft comparisons are meaningless.

A .303 AP round does over 2400 feet per second. An airsoft pellet even the fastest ones, dont get over 600 feet per second.

The reason they look so fast in CoD is because of the fps.

If you're running at 50 fps the tracer will have gone about 50 ft for every frame.

The tracer can't be 50 ft long so the devs draw normal size tracer and have big gaps between frames.

So there's a big difference between frames which makes it hard to follow individual rounds.

The higher the fps the more realistic the tracers will look. It's hard to animate something that fast when your frame rate is so (relativley) small.

To sum up. If you are 200 yards (600 feet) away from your target the round will take about .25 of a second to get there. If you are getting 30 fps then thats around 7-8 frames.
The result is that the animation is jerky and you can't follow individual tracers. It looks more like a series of flashing lights than tracer (like you say) and you lose any sense of speed. There's nothing that can be done about it though.

Way to be a douche. It's actually pretty funny that a guy who hangs around on a gaming forum all day actually talks XXXX about people who DO get outside every once in a while.

Was going to say the same thing myself...I for one do Airsoft but havent been for a while due to funds but will say it's massively entertaining, Bongo you make fun of people who are doing something they love...your on here playing with an expensive 'toy' are you not?..I go with regular army guys who can actualy do something close to Rl fighting without using blanks or killing someone, I myself was in army cadets then TA and doing Airsoft all day is alot better than running around woods firing blanks all day..same thunderflash, same smoke grenades and using exact replica firearms like a M4 qmb 'Troy' for instance with Acog sight...beats the he'll out of a joystick and keyboard.

You've obviously not ever tried it but if you did giving the fact that you like gaming you'd like paintball/Airsoft too unless your sone fat f*ck who can't get out of his comp chair..

Get over yerself

Ok fair enough, didn't mean to upset anybody, I don't play airsoft it's true, I just did that kind of thing when I was a kid in the army cadets, I nearly joined the military but my late brother who was serving told me not to (he seemed to believe I could do better) I became a commercial pilot, so my 'outside' has been varied, but I will agree I spend far too much time on this forum.

Sounds a bit like me...only my Dad promised me a Moped (Vison i think it was) if i didnt join regulars so i took him up on his offer...only thing is he never got me said Moped so basically i was 'had'..went into Tigers instead (Portsmouth TA)

Airsoft is good, all walks of life and keeps yer fit too..have to agree that some do go O.T.T with radios and headsets but each to their own as i said before..they like it so thats all what matters

Much better than Paintball because of the guns...yes you can get cheap plastic crap but the full metal ones which as i say are replicas and are the way forward £250-1500.

No problem.....but I had to delete a post sharpish when I saw you posted this, nothing bad.

My Bro was a regular in the Queens and subsequently the POWRR (tigers) and was in the freefall team through the transition from the dragons to the tigers.

Not an airline pilot, I used to fly SAR/surveillance for the Coastguard (fixed wing yes it did exist), now I fly private jets.

once again, for the sake of science, in the movie "Idi I Smotri" there is a scene where they used a real German MG with real live ammunition, it was recorded on film, so what you see is what it looks like in REAL LIFE. Hope this helps a bit in the never ending debate of what tracers actually look like..

"The 2006 UK DVD sleeve states that the guns in the film were often loaded with live ammunition as opposed to blanks, for realism. Aleksei Kravchenko mentions in interviews that bullets sometimes passed just 4 inches (10 centimeters) above his head (such as in the cow scene)."

It's more likely to have blood spray from pistol rounds, spitzer ammunition like the one of MGs and assault rifles does a neat entrance hole, but the exit one is bloody and messy. Many soldiers in ww2 reported that sometimes in the heat of the battle it was hard to tell whether a friend was wounded or not, cos bullets left little signs on their entrance.

The cow in the movie was actually shot and died on the set, slowly and painfully, poor thing :(

hiro 07-04-2011 06:17 PM

lol . . .

airsoft . . .

But any case I wish they would curve / straighten the tracers as they get close to you . . . after they fix all the bugs first. Spoke with nam vet that talked about that over night runs over the ho chi minh trail.

All they have to do is read the stories of combat pilots . . . to get an idea of tracers

hey i have a question a faster than sound bullet doesnt break the sound barrier making a huge sound?

it was in the first il2 really cool dopler effect, why was it removed?

Anything that moves faster than sound breaks the sound barrier....therefore it makes either a boom or a crack depending on size of the object, when a whip 'cracks' it is the tip breaking the sound barrier that makes the noise, the proppeller tips on a T-6 break the sound barrier giving it it's distinctive sound.

I'm with ya on this.
Although your statement made me recall my first time pinned. We got ambushed and the tank company QRF that came out to assist us misinterpreted our instructions and lit up our position with his coax (m240b, 7.62x51)...At least I can smile and laugh about it now!

Wow, man, just wow.
These "tracers" are moving a lot slower because, as already said, this is an airsoft movie with machine gun sounds dubbed over.
This is another classic example of knowing what tracers look like based on an internet movie.

ElAurens 07-05-2011 08:57 PM

machoo, what you don't understand is that the "weapons" in the video are toys. They shoot little plastic balls. It isn't real.
