It's perfect, almost overkilling. Go for it. Furthermore, it overclocks as a charm.

But not for CloD. :-P

I agree that socket LGA1155 is the best option price/performance. And I really like the fact that it's suited with a lithography of 32 nm.

Btw Insuber, hows that PSU hanging with your overclock and you graphic card? Have you done any stress tests to your system?

regards.

jayrc 06-11-2011 02:35 PM

Thanks, how hard is it to overclock, never done it before

mc,

I did the Prime95 "torture test". No issue at all. But the toughest test was CloD itself ... LOL!

Cheers,
Insuber

PS: the PSU wattage recommendations in forums et alike are normally grossly overestimated. The online PSU sizing tools are run by PSU manufacturers, that should tell it all. You shouldn't save in quality, that's still true, but my 2 years old VX550 runs without an issue with my vid card and overclock.

The easy way are the utilities like Asus' or Gigabyte's ones, running under Windows. They apply a preset of BIOS parameters which safely do the thing.
The purists will tell you to tweak directly the BIOS parameters. At any rate you can find gazillions of websites that tell you how to do it.

Snap that puppy up!

That chip will easily go above 4 GHz. I've some up to 5 GHz. You can spend more money on the 2600K - but you won't see any better performance.

Perfect price/performance spot.

Do it! ;) I have mine running at 4.5 ghz probably the easiest cpu I have ever had to overclock. All you have to do is add a little extra voltage and change the multiplier (ok it can be a bit more complicated but that is the general idea). Mine is at 1.3 volts, 4.5ghz and reaching about 50 deg in games.

With power supplies, pay attention to the amps on the rail not just the wattage. The newer graphics cards have pretty high requirements.

Conte Zero 06-11-2011 04:12 PM

so you think basing a new pc on a 2500k and a SSD drive for th OS and the Game is a good move? thank you

jayrc 06-11-2011 04:55 PM

thanks everyone, on my way to build my new pc, some people say to wait for dozer or ivy but there's no way I can wait another year or what ever the time frame is. Graphics card is another story, might get 570, would love the 580 3 gb version but it's over 500 bucks, 6970 would be my first option but it's got those 3 blue lines there still trying to work out I hope, Any thoughts?

Doc_uk 06-11-2011 06:22 PM

She's a blast to overclock, got mine running at 4.5 as well:grin:

BRIGGBOY 06-11-2011 07:21 PM

hey guys if i've take one of those CPU do i have to upgrade for a new momo as well:confused:
i've got an ASUS P6T

ytareh 06-11-2011 08:13 PM

I had an E8600 which I painstakingly overclocked to 4.5GHz...the 2500K does that straight out of the box (with good cooler/ram/and motherboard obviously )THING IS I havent tried THAT hard but I reckon this baby aint gonna go much higher.I think I read that Intel state that only 1% of them will do 5GHz.At STOCK speed the E8600 was faster at SPi 1M benchmark around 10.5 vs 11secs but the 2500k does 8.5 secs Overclocked !STILL isnt running ClOD anyway fast though ....just gettin by...

I'm afraid you do. Sandy bridge CPU's use a different socket (LGA 1155).

Yeah, most people can achieve acceptable OC's with the default cooler.

Are you running any OC in your system?

skouras 06-12-2011 07:57 PM

no...
