OT: For the scale modelers out there ...
|

I still have a 1/48th scale Tamiya Swordfish on the shelf that was close to that price when released ten years ago. Not that I've done any modelling for a while, too busy flight simming! I might do a bit now though, while we're waiting for various bits of CoD to be fixed!;) |
Should be good to see if the perennial debate on the nose profile gets up with this one :)
a lot of rivet marks in the first 1/3rd of the wing leading edge ! |
Interesting to note the welcome return of the 'in flight' stand!
One of the things that annoys me about UK aircraft modelling is that they're all modelled on the ground. If you tried to enter a competition with a model on a stand, you'd get laughed at. One of those stupid unwritten rules. Bloody IPMS! :) |
Just ordered it, now I'm going to have to hunt through Amazon. Can anyone recommend a good book for photo references? This is my first P-51 ;)

Don't get me wrong they’re a great bunch of guys and wealth of info, but the meetings were too much about the decline of the brick's and mortar retailers, competition rules and how much someone had spent on after market detail kits. Very little was actually about building techniques and ideas. To me it is an elitist club. |
Bloody hell, that was fast. There was a very big gap between the Zero and the Spit. I did the Zero, the Spit is in progress (stalled actually). Think I'll give the Mustang a miss, but a 109 or 190 will be snapped up so fast they'll smoke.

My lack of patience and steady hands don't make me much of a model builder, but I sure would like scale ww2 planes to toy around with. Do you know if there's any manufacturer that sells high detail planes as they do cars for example with a metal finish etc.
My son once got a plastic P-38 with three propellers which made me want to sue the toy company. :) |
Well Hobby Link Japan have just announced a Luftwaffe Sale, heaps of Luftwaffe kits going cheap.
I can't help myself :P just bought: 1/48 Dornier Do335A w/Kettenkraftrad Luftwaffe Interceptor Set 1/48 Heinkel He219 A-7 Uhu $10,000 yen ~ $115 AUS delivered Still trying to hunt down a 1/48 Me-140 |

I got 2 of these as a gift: http://www.flyingmule.com/products/IX-DDIJ023 21st century toys make cool displays too. I got a 1/18th FW-190 D-9 from a friend, but they have quite varied subjects. All you have to do is attach the wings: http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/pr..._21c_tbf.shtml But you should seriously try your hand at modeling. :-) Even if the result isn't "award-winning" it is fun to do. 1/72 is my favorite scale because I can display many on a shelf, and I don't have to worry too much about detail (In fact, I find panel lines are too large for the scale, so I fill them in or scrape them off). This was my last project, but I'm working on others: http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...N/100_4607.jpg That kit cost me less than $10, for a few weeks of fun. Good return on the investment  This one's a little bigger, in 1/48th http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...1/100_3024.jpg Maybe my favorite kit. Less than $13, mixed all colors by hand using primary colors, first time using sand-paper, scratch-building a landing light and cockpit, masking canopy frames (one by one), and other techniques. I had tons of fun with this and I would do it ten times again. http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...7/100_2196.jpg So get out there and build some models! |
Excellent models Valalo :)
Did you use a matt top coat on the 109? |

Lovely looking models chaps, and you're starting to get me interested again.
There's an unbuilt 1/48th Eduard Sturmovik with etched fret flaps and bomb bays sitting on a shelf that's starting to speak to me from afar.......................:) |
The Tamyia top coat gives the best overall look of painted metal IMO.
A little suggestion, before applying decals and the top coat, lightly and I mean LIGHTLY sand the whole plane with a 1600 grit sand paper or polishing paper, it takes away the roughness of the matt paint and makes the paint smooth, then apply the decals and top coat. http://www.sisweb.com/micromesh/ Great Me-110 by the way!!! Oh that's it, I'm hooked again, this weekend I'm finishing off my Fw-190D |
I am Modeller des of for many years, I have some posts work at the site of SAS and in AAS, here I leave a link to my PHOTOBUCKET so they can see my work

Great models Guys ... I'll be grabbing the Tamiya 1/32 Mustang once its out, Revell will shortly have a 1/32 HE-111 out that is very reasonably priced when you consider the size it will be, have their 1/32 JU-88 and the quality although not quite up to Tamiya standard is still excellent.
Here is a test one built up http://www.hyperscale.com/2011/galle...11p132dw_1.htm And sprue test shots ... http://www.ipmsdeutschland.de/FirstL...P_32_TS_2.html |
WOW...Thats a great 190. Which kit is that? Fantastic detail in the cockpit!
|
Some quality jobs there guys. I especially like the Fw. :)
Cockpit of the Zero I did some years ago, Tamiya 1/32nd. I'm more into armor these days. http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/r...zero/kok01.jpg http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/r...zero/kok02.jpg |

The only bad thinga about 1/32 models is YOU NEED MUCH SPACE but i love them.
Cool pix. Just go on.:-P |

You only have to attach the wings with a screw provided (let's face it, planes are not as compact as cars). No gluing, building, or painting required. http://smalljoes.com/images_gen/XD10...0063_large.jpg http://smalljoes.com/images_gen/XD10...0063_large.jpg In addition to the above, this model has opening gun bays, moving ailerons, and slats. For all that under $80, it would make a great gift/toy I think. |
