Luthier - please consider using Jafa's sound mods

they're brilliant!

FlyingShark 05-28-2011 07:52 AM

I second that. It has been said before that the current sound is only a placeholder and listening to Jafa sounds, users as well as devs can only benefit from it. Devs don't have to create sounds themselves anymore and users get the best sound ever in their sim.

People, start to think!!!!
No company can afford to use something which isn't 100% free of foreign ownership!
I am pretty shure that Jafa can't and won't guarantee that the rights of his sounds aren't ownned by someone else!
We all remember the Grumman - thing, aren't we?

furbs 05-28-2011 07:59 AM

What we need is a way for Luthier to allow certain MODS to used without worrying about getting banned online. A allowed mods list would be good.

As soon as the SDK is out and mods enabled you can use as sound what you want. Even to make your Merlin sound like a Lawn-mower if you like. I don't see the need of the dev team to implement what somebody modded and which likely does not fit to the sound engine as implemented in the program.

I for my part rather like the sounds from the cockpit and they are not that bad except that there's no wind sounds. In reality a Merlin when one sits in the cockpit did not sound like what you hear on videos.

The outside sounds are definitely placeholders and will be replaced by sounds that will fit to the sound engine for default. You will be able to change this as soon as mods are allowed.

Waiting for some official "revork", if we'll never have it, actually the modding solution is the best one.

It's a shame that a modder, in a few weeks, is able to do better than the official team in six years, but it's ok for us.

However nice sounds. Well done.

RocketDog 05-28-2011 08:04 AM

Why should we think there will ever be an SDK? My guess is that they haven't even started working on one and they have so many other things to fix first that I can't see it being a priority.

Why not? Jafa may have created the sounds himself. We should ask the dude.

And for the record - the current sounds suck. who ever heard of a merlin sounding like a two stroke lawnmower?

Seeker 05-28-2011 09:19 AM

Agreed.

Jaffa's sounds are much better.

"Few weeks"? As far as i know Jaffa have been tweaking these sounds for at least a couple of years.

So, no, no "few weeks", not even close.

And personally, there are a few good sounds, and a few that "suck" even worse than original, thinking of the fly by sounds imo.

Everything is relative.

ATAG_Doc 05-28-2011 09:27 AM

Indeed these sounds are spot on.

smink1701 05-28-2011 05:21 PM

It's amazing that Luthier has never commented on the sound. Many, many posts and not a peep.

41Sqn_Stormcrow 05-28-2011 05:31 PM

Why should he?

To me it is not amazing at all. What amazes me is that people keep ignoring the fact that the current sound is not final so there will be a new sound coming from the developpers anyhow, that in the future players will be able to mod their game so using any fancy sound files will be possible without passing by the devs and that very likely the sounds developped by somebody who is no expert of the game engine and has not the slightest insight into it and despite his competences may just be not good for a game feature with the dev stamp on it.

And were did you read this? plz share

We have been over this a million times.

A publisher that is in business for a profit, must have permission of the actual copyright holders to use their content, be that visual or sonic. If they don't have this permission they are open to legal actions against them.

Jafa has never once revealed his sources for the sounds in his mods. When asked he immediately goes defensive and starts to deflect the questions, or simply drops out of the conversation.

One can only conclude that he has ripped these original sound files from copyrighted sources, most likely one of Microsoft's flight sims, and is using them illegally. Not really a big deal for private modders as they are so far under the radar no one will notice. But if a large, global publisher like 1C or UBI does it, then the lawyers will take action.

End of thread.

Ha-ha-ha, dream on. This has been debated over'n over again and that since the original il-2 Sturmovik series (which by the way had reasonable sounds compared to CloD)...
