Friday (27.05.11) is approaching!
So, as the title says... friday is approaching and luthier has already shown himself today, so let's look a bit into the crystal ball :)
What do you think will happen tomorrow? a) a new patch, presumably a beta one b) an announcement by 1C c) nothing My guess would be an announcement. One about how some subtle thing has caused major programming trouble (again) and therefore, most, if not all, big problems (as for example my oft-repeated loadouts & radio commands, along with some of the bigger FM issues) will get pushed back... again. But still, although I've given up hope with the last patch, I wish for a patch. A real patch, which will, for the first time ever, tackle at least some functionality issues! :) |
None of the above,
Because luthier, Is coming round my place 2morrow for tea and cake:grin: |
Luthier are the parents
|
We're going bowling tonight. I will find out and post it.
|
With another good patch or two, and the AA being fixed (hint, hint) Luthier, like Oleg, will be approaching rock star status. So unless some of you have skirts on (no - not you Scottish chaps) I don't think Luthier will be dropping by.

oh as i rode it i thought another end of the world is aproaching
honestly we should feel luckiest on earth after having going through so many world ends could hawkings be right and quantum suicide be right? nahh in the old times they denied free will through determinism when they understood determinism grants the free will even of matter they said: well now everything happens so theres no choice since you take both choices |

They cant release a patch every friday. That is unreasonable. Quality patches over band aid fix's please.
|
How did you guys know there was a patch coming. Luthier only told me this morning while we were having tea and biscuits :):):)
|
What's this thing with tea and biscuits? Why not a beer or two? Or coffe?
Iliya promised us some kind of forum host for us to batch and beat. Maybe he'll announce it today. :-D Btw he asked me the other day (over a beer actually) but I don't have time to babysit this forum. :-D |
Spies.
|
On the russian forums they are saying the SDK is about to be released!
|
Luthier sent me the link to the patch this morning.. its amazing. The 109E4 has the first accurate FM in CoD. The Do-17Z Cockpit is amazing... When I have more time to play around with it and give Luthier the go ahead he'll release it to the rest of you ;)
|
excuse my stupidity, but what is a SDK?

I'd like to see a patch of course, but how much can be done in a week?
I have no idea, but I think most of us are reasonably happy with the way the game runs now...so maybe optimisation should take a back seat to some actual new or missing features - gameplay features - being introduced? That's not to say further optimisation isn't important, but maybe it's not the main thing to concentrate on now. I can only speak for myself though. |
it seems that most of your crystal balls need maintenance or something :D
Also, I concur with rattlehead about the backseat for optimization for now. |
For me the beta patch was better in any kind. It was faster and for me i could enable options wich are now forbidden (clouds, shadows).
Lets hope for some real patch tonight. |

We don't get patch today, im sure of it.

It allows certain aspects of the game to be tampered with, like making new maps and ground graphics. It just depends on how much they allow to be changable. |
Did Luthier say what the highest priority is for coming patch(es)?
I would say radio and landscape graphic glitches. |
We will get a patch today and this time it will be the god of all patches, the patch that will end all patches.
|
In your dreams Addman, in your dreams.
We don't get patch today. Refreshing.. Refressing... |

all i can say is FULL SCREEN PLEASE, in the nicest possible way of course :)
Tired of the flashing before and after loading of my desktop, and the windows "dings" whenever i make a key press, AA would be nice too. |
No even words today from Devs :(
|
i would like to hear something from even a moderator.

One a more serious note, I would have liked to receive the regular update today. Whether busy or not, proper communication is more important at this stage (where we are holding to this game by our teeth) than anything else... ~S~ |

Nevermind, I'm still going for unresponsive wingmen/squads/radar/towers(!) and the ability to fly generic planes/loadouts only. Plus various FM issues like the 109's PP and inconvenient ways to use the RAF compasses and so on and so on.. |

I feel abused. 1C exploit our dedication to this genre.
I'm this close to feck this. I wish that the americans or swedes would take an interest in combat flightsim as obviosuly the russians suck at programming and customer care. |

Flight sim limitations have long since moved from the technical, to the financial IMHO. |

Financial problems may very well have been arosen after the release of CoD, however. Though they say they are hiring guys... |
Does we have any other options in WW2 flight sim?No.
But we have a raw, crude release of a potentially great one. I decide to support what I have and wait for the improvement that already is happening right now. The other option is to quit this hobby and go do some gardening or take pictures from birds. Not my taste at all... |
aaand the correct anser is?
c) nothing! Winning tickets will be processed shortly! |

We have grown used to weekly patches and feedback true, but I don't know if we can rely on these things like clockwork. Besides, the week isn't over yet. |
Quote:
I dont want patches like that every week because 1/ I want things fixed and I dont want to trade a fixed item to a item that did work to now be broken and 2) if your like me you look forward to these patches for what? because deep down we hope that nearly everything is going to be fixed at the same time bar maybe content, so when its not were back to disappointment again.. Id rather put up with what i have and actually receive a patch that makes a difference.. this is my opinion and i do appreciate that alot of people here cant even run the dam game and are awaiting even just that fix..i feel for you |

Without any of those two, money can´t save your'e product in the end cause it'll reveal itself. For an Indie game dev. team you can do a lot of good stuff without large amounts of money, but not in the long haul. So a combination of the two; money and aviation nerd would be the best combo, but of course a hard one to gain. |

What I mean when I say 'games of integrity' is games that are labours of love; a game where the developer truly loves and appreciates the subject matter. Unfortunately, too many games these days are 'products'...merely cash cows that publishers know will sell well, because that's what is in demand. But...we are all here on this forum, talking about and playing Clod. The market may not be that big, but the enthusiasm is there. As long as that enthusiasm does not die, there is always a chance of survival and more, even if the path is harder travelled. |
Its all conjecture guys, no point it guessing. Look we all know you will have to wade through BS here, half of that is said as conjecture by 1C at times.
Where is our community guy they have employed? lol no point in me commenting any further because thats why the situ here sucks... |

Customer care/poor communication is a problem that can be easily avoided. The fact that 1C claims to be too busy to post a simple weekly progress update with the list of items being worked on (or plan to work on) tells that either they don’t care or not having success (whatever that may mean). |
I agree completely with the comment about the financial realities of the genre.
The biggest shame is whatever went on between Oleg/Luthier/1C to cause them to split up. I suspect it had something to do with the decision to early release (btw which wasn't UBI's fault) and/or certain internal politics. I'm not going to pass judgement one way or the other without any actual knowledge of the situation but I'd bet Oleg was completely against releasing CloD in the state it was in while the other faction was concerned about certain financial realities perhaps. Either way we lose because Oleg was pretty much the heart and soul of the operation - not to diminish in any way Luthier's integral part - and now I doubt we'll hear much if anything from Oleg anymore. I trust it's in good enough hands now, all things considered, and we'll just need some patience along with the dedicated work of the community to turn this sim into what it will eventually be. Maybe we should all stop being so melodramatic about everything and either support the devs throughout the painful process of improving the sim - yes, even with constructive criticism - or for those who can't help but get all worked up, just put it on the shelf for some months until it's at a point where they feel a bit less butthurt. |

I can tell you from first hand experience that Flight Sims for PC's are handicapped from the start for several reasons. First of all, the flight sim market is narrow. Secondly, any sim that is going to be a "Simulation" is going to need levels of scalability to grab as much of that small market as possible. The lead up development time for the initial release using new code is ALWAYS extremely long and costly. The business model that makes the most sense is to build the foundation, an engine that has scalability and has the ability to keep currrent for several years, and then use that engine to base additional content releases that continue to fund development and further content. The build time for true Flight Simulations is so long that you risk missing hardware development curves. You get something together and suddenly Graphics card X or DirectX 16 are released and you were still writing for Graphics card Y and DirectX 10. I think that you can see that the foundation work has been done here, and sales numbers have shown enough interest that they were willing to invet new personnel and resources. It might take a couple of months but this game will succeed.. people will get the game they had hoped this will be. And the beauty is that additional add ons will be far less difficult to develop and will also result in additional improvement to th core engine.. its a win win.. just have a little patience.. |
