IMPORTANT: The english translation project is outdated currently from the latest version of Red Sands! Use at your own risk! I need to make changes to how Red Sands English project is being handled before I can continue this project. Sorry for the delays and I'll get to work on making the translation compatible with 1.7(.3) as soon as I can! I'll upload a mirror of Red Sands 1.6 in the meantime.
Red Sands is not my mod. I've worked along others on the translation of it. If you do have any issues or experience glitches or bugs you can post here and I'll see how I can help out. Likewise if you have time and want to improve upon the writing let me know either here or in PMs and show you how to get the localization files (they're all included) and then incorporate them. If there are game issues, bugs, suggestions, that you'd like to bring to the actual developers of this mod then please go to the Russian discussion forums. You don't have to post in/translate/know Russian, they can understand English as well. It looks like there's still some work to be done here and there with rewriting sections, so I'll see how far I can get doing rewriting some of these parts. Feedback and input is welcome. I noticed that some additions were made to certain .lng files. In some cases with the English translation missing these additions (for now), it might appear to freeze up and create an error message behind the game explaining a label is missing. You can then hit retry to continue the game (or just R on your keyboard). If that happens post it on this thread and I'll fix it ASAP. |
It's easy to translate this mod. All file are in one folder.
But : -You need to know Russian :-P -And lot of time. First prerequisites is the major problem. :( For your mod you should make a localization folder for all .LNG files and put here rus_XXX.lng and eng_XXX.lng. |

How is the text organized? I think automatic translation does a good job nowadays, wasn't the fan manual translated that way?
Maybe, much of the text needs only to be copied pasted; let's assume we find enough volunteers who can split the work in several pieces, so maybe we can have an English version which is playable. Can you tell us some of the features in Red Sands? When we know what we will have as an end product, there might be a bigger chance in finding volunteers. |
You see, there are realy lot of text, there humor, sarcasms, jokes and some cultural references. I realy don't think, that google tramslate is cappable to outstand such a task.
As far as i know, literaturic translation of the campaingn costs about 300-350 usds. I guess, my free time costs much more. |

Wow it`s allot of content, i like what i see here.
So you spend 7 months making this, we`ll give you 7 days to translate it to english and release that version for public OR . . . well there is nothing we can actually do but we would appreciate new mod playable in english :-D And question : how is individual unit exp related to enemy units ? Do they also advance during game, or all enemy stay on 1 lexp vl ? I referred to this in Adventure mod tread, since this `Red Sands` mod for KB looks allot like `In the wake of Gods` mod for Heroes of might & magic 3. |
The advance of enemy is mastered by locations difficulty and somehow by your creatures expirience.

Well, it's almost a full add-on, as far as I can see. However, we don't need to translate everything, I think we need to translate only the parts which are an absolut necessity.
So, even if google translate isn't perfect, as long as we can understand the general idea, we can play the game. I am willing to pay for this mod, I've read about it on the russian forum and it seemes very interesting. |
It would be awsome to have this translated, I downloaded the mod, as I figure it wouldnt hurt to at least try and use a online translator to translate it (its a start, and we have to start somwhere) and then once that was done, one of our russian friends could go through and fix up the rest,(I realize that the cultural refs and such would not make sense, but if we dont at least start the translation..) unfourtunatly, I learned that as I have windows 7 home premium, I cant install the russian lang pack unless I upgrade to ultimate edition, but I dont have the money to do so, so the russian lang just is a bunch of symbols on my computer :(

Yes awesome mod so far and i tried to translate it, units and specials mostly but the translators simply messup the code and put "spaces" where it must not, hence breaking the code. Several translators all do the same errors. It worked in part but the info tooltips we're garbage letters because of the spaces. There was LUA errors too (special_hint.lua) related to non-translated mismatched names and info.

@Mandea - there's so much new stuff (new quests, characters, units, items, item sets, companions, locations, whole new race, new race features....), so it's not just mod, it's much more than that, a true expansion and it is amazing to play :) Your units now gather experience and level-up upgrading their characteristics, but enemy units are leveling and upgrading too, so there's a need for a whole new tactical approach, especially in the early part of the game. Trust me, stack of 200 upgraded Berserkers with +1 speed and initiative can be really scary ;) @fillyra - unfortunately, at least some basic knowledge of Russian is needed to be of any kinda help, but i appreciate your offer :) @zini4_tha_grunt - thank you very much, i hope to finish "other" by the end of the week and i'll send it to you right away so you can correct all wrong unit names and some other miss-translations. I'll try to translate quests too, but like i said it to you before, all new text regarding conversations is a too big bite for me to chew right now and with my "humble" knowledge of both languages in question, it would take me forever to translate it properly, so i hope there are some guys among your team willing to do this part. cheers |
I figured since I made the post I ought to give a proper description and introduction to this expansion. I updated the original post with a rough draft of sorts based upon a rough translation of the Red Sands post on Kingsbounty.ru.
Let me know if I should change anything or if I mistranslated something. I'll also edit it sometime in the future to include information from the posts as well as give credit where credit is due when I can get to it. EDIT: Oops, I'll need to replace screenshots with some better ones I found on the site. |

Finaly it`s seems some1 read my posts about giving rune bonuses to other units except rune mage. This should be great mod to play, and no loss is much more chalenging but also awarding :-)
Only wonder this : how does geting more units after geting enough leadeship affect those that you already get at some lvl ? Is it same as was in WoG, sharing all exp to new number of units, or . . . ? Good job so far, i hope to see soon finished version in english. Take care :-) |

It would be strange to be different. You should have upgraded berserkers and normal berserkers in your army at the same time, so you basically waste a slot just to upgrade the normal berserkers.

I dont think we understood each other again. Here`s what i thought : you play mage and all heappy when hit 2500 leadership get 1 black dragon and lead him around fighting and before you get 5000 lead, your 1 BD got some unit exp and upgraded some stats. So when you get second BD are they separated first BD is expert lvl from before, and second is noob just bought/hatched from egg, or you continue game with 1 stack of 2 BD on medium lvl where second BD got part of experianced one(they shared exp first gained during battles) ?

I understood what you said but it would be strange to have 1 normal BD and 1 upgraded BD in your army at the same time at 5000 leadership. So it makes sense to have the second BD automatically upgraded. Yes, it seems unbalanced, but I suppose the game design takes this fact into consideration (harder battles, already upgraded enemies(!), etc ).

Lol, wouldn't it be best to have 2 Semi-Upgraded Black Dragons, as I think that Fatt_Shade has suggested.
You have 1 Black Dragon, then trough battles, you upgrade it to 10th level (which I believe is the max level), then you go and buy yourself another Black Dragon... Now, in this mod, you'll have 2 x 10th level Black Dragons, which is not fair from some perspective. Instead, as in HoMM: Wake of Gods, you should have 2 x 5th level Black Dragons, which I think would be better. :) I think that it wasn't done on purpose, rather, scripting out such a system take's time, knowledge and patience, and modders of Red Sands lacked one of those things, but then again, that's just my opinion. Anyway, it's a great mod, and we'll have to play it as it is. :) P.S. with my relatively humble knowledge of Russian language, I would be willing to help with the translation, if my help is needed. |
Ok my bad, we did understood but this is a bit of problem. As i sugested and bladeking rememberd in Wake of Gods you had that sistem where 1 experianced unit and 1 brand new made 2 mid trained troops, it was great. And there games lasted for months (game time, turn based) and enemy wasn`t much more advanced than that, since it was set to stationary enemy get like 3% exp/week or something. Here in KB-CW game time is from 7 days to 1 month (for all those who like to travel around) and making enemy advance in exp could be done in same way. I dont diss on ppl who made this mod, just sugesting to look at HoMM3-WoG scripts it was done great by them, so they already have reference how to make in work also in this mod Red Sands. I like ideas in Red Sands, and we needed something new to give other moders inspiration for their projects.
But as it is now this unit exp system could make serious unbalance in game play. Here Pcbun had similar mod for KB-AP but many players complained about geting units to max lvl very fast and all battles got very easy even on impossible http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=14741 (he also had great idea to make 5 reserve slots). I havent still dl this mod, but i`m guessing it was huge project to finish, and good job for all involved. But as every player i`m looking for ways to get game working for me, and this units sharing exp will make it very nice : get 1 unit lead it throught couple of battles to max lvl then buy as much as you can lead, and instantly you have full stack of high lvl units :-( |
Hmm, maybe you might have to download it and find out exactly how it works?
Since it is such a big gameplay change it might be that they balanced the game around this new feature? We'd have to play it through completely to find out. |
OK i`ll try it. I wanted to finish 1 playthrough on bladeking`s adventure mod to see how far i can build lvl (it have 5 medal lvl`s and i think 65 lvl is possible :-)

Don't worry. The exp bonuses are balanced and polished. There are no inbalance features like it was in PCBun mod. Exp system more like some bonus for playing the same creatures through the game.

I peeped in this forum by chance, but I would help with RedSands translation if it's required. Im a native russian speaker and my english's good enough to give a precise meaning of dialogues/texts even though I can't make a Shakespear-like masterpiece. Now, I don't know in what way my help can be applied so I'm ready to hear suggestions. For one, you can just post whole paragraphs in russian and I will give a translation. I can't translate everything cause I believe our craftsmen wrote A Lot there. I passed Red Sands once myself, and I have a picture of quests-structure, though I haven't developed it myself. |

Found them files in question, will see how it goes at work tomorrow :p 2 things: 1) I leave all those system tags as they are? like I don't touch chat_system_660678793_snap_6_answer_0=^?^ but only translate russian words that go after it or before the line end tag? 2) I've never done such stuff before. Any practical recomendations? Or do I just load files into a text editor, and replace the russian words? On a sidenote, I've played only russian versions of KB, so I'm not familiar with standard english names and terms for stuff. Thus, my translation may be a bit different, but I hope it won't hurt. In the worst case, you will understand what I meant and replace my words with common. |

To rephrase my previous post: - I Leave all service symbols and words as they are. regardless of their place in text documents. <br> is a paragraph break or something, but it shouldn't matter for me. - I just replace all russian phrases I meet as I look through files with english equivalents, and try not to damage file format. (by file format I mean those service symbols and words). |
Well, I translated 2 files from the list provided by Bladeking77:
for instance: from "rus_chat_1076788295_0660678793.lng" to "rus_chat_2084421464_0171086550.lng" There are 2 questions. 1) First, whom shall I send them to check the integrity? I mean, if I do something wrong it's better to find it sooner than later. I seem not to be able to just attach them to my forum message. 2) These 2 files are dialogues with Dwarf Academy tutor and the Giant near the Abyss. I haven't seen there much that would differ from dialogues in "March of the Orcs" or how this addon name was translated into English. If it's so, maybe it's not an effective pastime to translate on amateur level things that had been translated by a professional a year ago. Or had we better do it again? Please clarify. |

As I have noticed, some of the files haven't been changed at all, so all you have to do is copy the text from english file to russan one, save, and it's finished. Some files on the other hand, have only some text added, so just copy the existing text in english file over the one in russian, translate the rest of the text, save, and again it's finished. For those files that are completely new, just translate them all without worry. :) As for actor names, just refer to english ones if existent, or if they are new just make them up. Good luck. :) P.S. The loc_ses.zip in the attachment is actually a renamed .rar file, and you'll need a winrar, or winzip, or some other software. :) EDIT: Another tip, since you have a russian version of the game, compare the size of the files from Red Sands to size of files from Armored Princess(addon folder)/Orcs on the March (orcs folder). If you find a file in red sands that has the same name and same file size (in bytes), it means that nothing was changed, and you are free to delete that file - no need to bother translating a file that has no changes made to it. :) |
Exactly, good tips there, about actor names i translated eng_actors.lng already directly from retail Crossworld, while also keeping new NPC's names. There you go, a copy/paste from the file.

Sorry, ran into another one of those "abort, retry, ignore" script errors that occured when I hit a goblin catapult with my disintegration ray with Asmo the Beholder.
I don't remember the precise errors message though. I wonder if it is language related or something else? So far, this is a really good mod. Too bad the language thing makes it hard to figure out some of the quest dialogue, but not too bad. Seems somewhat balanced, but the early game for mages is MUCH easier now that you have Asmo. The levelling idea seems pretty good since it does reward you for using some units very early on in the game. |

Two questions for those who worked on Red Sands. Do I have permission to use resources (I.E textures, models, units, etc.) from this expansion in my mod? And whom should I credit for usage of such resources?

I am not one of the mod developers but afaik it's not legal (officially) to use Red Sands in whatever way.
There even have been issues with its having been translated into English at all. I was yelled at at first, though in the end we kind of agreed that "it's OK but only if the translation quality is high". Anyways You should ask Zini4 - the chief coder and one of them 'mental leaders' of the project - who posts here sometimes. if he doesn't you can try to find him on russian forum. On a side note, I've looked through the translation of CrossWorlds (Orc March). It's just awful. 1C grudged to pay $500 to a professional translator. Some things translated in a wrong way, some just have opposite meaning. And the very fun of many interesting dialogues is lost cause proverbs or something are translated 'literally, word-to-word' so their english meaning is lost. In this circumstances, I think our translation can't be much worse by all means :) The other problem is that it takes more of my time than I expected. It's not the very translation speed issue, but all those tags that I should to keep in order, and inconvenient files format. I translated like 10 files so far, and not sure what my progress can be by the end of this week, and the next week I won't have much time. But we shall see. Whatever is better than nothing. |
Hi, it's not going all that fast here either. I translated 40 files so far. It's not that I don't have much free time, it's just that I am lazy. :rolleyes:
Anyway, there are three things that might prove to be a problem: 1) There's lot of same text, with some files completely unchanged (I think), and some files have only some text added to them. Now, in such cases I simply copied the text (form eng_chat to rus_chat), and while I did always check not to make a mistake, there is a possibility that I made some errors that will express themselves in bugs or otherwise. 2) Considering I'm not all that great with Russian (or English for that matter), I couldn't make sense of some sentences/words, even with help of google translator and some other translators/dictionaries. Therefore, in some cases, I might have given some sentences a different or even an opposite meaning. 3) Since there are already three of us translating this mod, our terms and names might not match with one another and confuse/mislead the players. These may not even prove to be big problems, but I thought I should mention them. Also, I'm translating in following order: from first to last ([rus_chat_003...] to [rus_chat_208...]), so I hope that you(Glorfindel1982) are translating backwards, so we wouldn't end up translating the same files. Now, I'm off to some more translating, and maybe we could translate this by July. :) |

The campaign is not totally bug fixed, there some things to be done. Until that day a strongly recommend not to use RS content. |

Interesting mod/expansion, great work all who did this. But since i undertand this was done by players, not official dev of game there are some problems.
1) I`ve found while lvling units there is no astral ress bonus, all other unit get physical/fire/magic/poison are added while lvling units but not astral. 2) Also in magic ball/lether dress astral ress is missing in items.txt , in medals.txt in guardian angel also astral ress missing in all 4 lvl`s. I`ll report when i find more, i`m not trying to lower this mod, just want to help in checking things before you ppl place this on market :-) |

Ok astral ress is new since CW because before that no unit had astral dmg. But guardian angel/crystal ball/leather dress have ALL resistances % and should give resistance to all types of dmg. Stone skin say res% to physical and it gives that, shield of dragon slayer say res% to fire and gives that, so it`s only normal that item/medal that say res% to ALL gives res% to ALL. Same problem i never figured out how to fix is with divine armor spell, it doesnt protect from astral dmg.
1 more prob, but it`s posible only with my game : whenever i start battle with orc saboteur in enemy army my game crashes, no matter what units i have in my army and no problems with any other of new units mystic/evil genius/ice dragon . . . only orc new unit makes this problem. Any idea`s what`s problem and how to fix it ? |

Wonderful to hear about Red Sands. I glimpse thru some of the posts on this thread and it seems to be still WIP ? Can I jump in now and just update the Mod folder on my PC when new updates is ready or it will require a restart once the Mod is full completion / translation ? I am currently trying out Marlow's Legends mods but feel that Red Sands is definitely much more interesting as it is totally new contents. Keep up the good work !!!! :-) |

If you alt-tab, you can see the "caught exception" in windows, and just click on "ignore" to continue playing. As for a REAL crash, I can get the game to crash when the ENEMY Dragon of Chaos turns my Heavenly Guardian (rune mage summon) to a Rage Pill. It is playable for the most part. The quest texts are off though, so you have to blind guess what the proper text is since it is sometimes shifted. :( The difficulty is... different. In some ways it is easier, in other ways it is harder. That said, it is quite good though so far. I posted a thread in the main page citing "spoilers" and "discussion". No one really posted on it though... :( |
Ok i agree about misleading definitions of some item`s/spell`s etc but rune mage got their fix about runic armor error in 1.3.1 patch, there was fix for other problems also, so why is it such big problem to write `Divine shield gives resistances to physical and elemental dmg. Which leaves us with almost no protection from astral dmg if we dont find crown of chaos/ghost armor. Stone skin gives physical res, so why divine armor gives it also but doesnt apply astral res ?
Orc saboteur problem isn`t blocked game untill i choose retry/abort/ignore on my desktop, it just close game with to other options. As for quest dialogs, yes i have same problem but i just try out this mod untill official translation comes out (i hope soon, because i want to try out new companions Mesmer seems great for mage hero). And about your tread i`ve seen it but since there is already 2 started in mod`s i dont think you`ll get much trafic there because this is still in development and not much players tried it to give you coments about contents and their impressions. |

I've got some of it done myself, but not sure if the original translators are still translating it and what needs to still be translated, hmm.

I'm still translating, but it's going rather slowly.
System files, and quest files are already translated, or so I think. The only files left are dialogue (chat). I translated somewhat over 50 files out of over 180, so if anyone is willing to help, it's always appreciated. :) At this rate it might take over a month before it's finished. If someone IS willing to help, please consult me and other members who are currently translating, so we wouldn't end up translating the same files multiple times. |

Only 1 question fillyra : where to place this files you atached in eng_chat.zip ? I think in game/sessions/red_sands/localization/rus/rus_chat, but should we replace files there or just copy new you posted ? |
You make a new folder named eng, and another one named eng_chat in there, and put the files in there. This method won't work for everyone so I really recommend waiting until the entire translation is out.
EDIT: Also, it's probably better to wait until the entire translation is out. That way people can play the game and see if the translation needs any more work or any sort of polishing (I.E: characters sounding more a certain way or so). |

OK ppl i have couple question untill official translation comes out :
1) What does Alucard item do ? killing dragons fill it up to 100% and then what ? 2) Where is battle academy file , cant find it to add new units in it : monstera upgraded from royal thorns, and new beholder units (gorgon, medium, mystic)to upgrade from normal behoders. 3) What am i suposed to do in new cave on verona ? left from bridge of demenions castle. Near that cave is friendly NPC with chat options, but it`s not translated and i have no idea what to do with him, it`s 1 of those new companions. 4) Any progress with translating new quests? I picked up 2 quests (1 on scarlet wind, 1 on verona)that also have no idea what to do with. 5) Ice dragons are totaly magic imune, cant even heal them with rune mages. is this planed, or just some problem in my game. 6) Some of Asmodean skills are confussing - Reduces the initiative them is 1 level without stand for 1 reason ???? Unreciprocated attacking creatures level 1 without perssistant intelligence ???? Wtf does this mean? |

Do you have equipped the item? I know a silly question :) But if you have it in the backpack it don´t work, it is not like the quest sword to temper in dragons blood.

I play mage with elenhel so i have plenty of artefact slots, ofc i carry it with me but it could be some problem with my game same as crash when ever i attack enemy with orc saboteur unit (i`we read all files with that unit mentioned and cant find any error connected with it :-( ) |
I have the same problem with the orc saboteur unit. If it use a skill (i don´t know which) the game crash.
But sometimes he don´t use this skill in the first round and i can kill him, but later it should be really a problem if you can´t kill him in two rounds, because he will use this skill latest in the second round. Seem to be a bug. The same as Alucard, i have now killed 50 dragons (i have a savegame bevor i bought it - i ever save often if i play a mod) and it never let me use it. But before i could use it after killing a stack of 20 black dragons... |

It halts at an exception, which you can either abort/retry/ignore. If you ignore it, you can continue your game. So when the game "freezes", you alt-tab. Find the pop-up that says what to do with the exception, then click on ignore. The only time I have crashed so far is when an enemy Dragon of Chaos turns my heavenly guards into rage balls. Then it hard crashes. |
thx vor the info, but if the orc saboteur crash the game there is no switch to desktop because i land on the desktop and there are only the message that kb.exe is terminated and don´t work.
There is no retry/abort/ignore like the shaman at the crossworld 1.3 The game terminate immediately. |
Same problem here, as soon i start some battle with orc saboteur game shut down without any questions, i cant even see what ability he uses that make tihis happen, i was thinking to just cut out that unit entirely from game (delete his files, and be done with it).
And how is runic staff used ? Should i carry it and after some battles spend runes on it to get some bonus, or . . . ? |

Does anyone have issue installing russian version of the red sand mod onto Steam AP? At the end of the installation, it says something about label/code not valid. I can still play the mod but it seemed like a lot of the conversation files and folders are missing. I am not sure if there are any creatures/items missing as well because of the part of the files
Hopefully, there is a good version released soon for all ardent AP fans. |

I'm very sorry I've been (and still am) heavily engaged elsewhere.
So entirely no time to continue what I started to do. Here is a list of files I translated - more than 30, some of them from entirely new personages. I started from the second half in the directory of chat-files and translated nigh to 30, and then took 2-3 files (from second half as well) that were most difficult (new personage "dwarf-in-capuchon", or "dwarf-assassin" as he is usually refered to in russian). Can't help more thus far. But as I wrote before, I would try to find time to translate dialogues with dragon BUGO HOSS, as they asked me to pay special attention to them. Could anyone tell me file names for this NPC dialogues? |
