What happened to the Whirlwind?
I remember seeing a vid on youtube . Anyone know what became of it?
|
Still in the pipeline, though somewhat delayed as a result of the Christchurch earthquake, apparently: http://www.oceanicwing.com/il2_projects.html. Shouldn't be too long, hopefully.
Also in the works from Oceanic: CAC Boomerang, De Havilland Vampire Vampire, Hawker Fury & Nimrod (biplanes). |
Thanks for the info Andy. I feared that it was a toys out of the pram issue ;)
|
Hope Boomerang and Vampire can find a place in a IL2 patch...

I hope we can get the Whirlwind. Shredding bombers with 4x nose mounted 20mm Hispanos will be easy. Bwahahahahahaha!

The artist behind it, Magpie, lives in Christchurch and experienced both of the major earthquakes that occurred in last year. He lost the current build of many of his projects and was set back many months. Him and his team now develop for Rise of Flight but I have received assurances that they intend to finish the Whirlwind and Boomerang sometime this year.

Great news. Looking forward to this :)

looks good hope to see them in IL2 :-P

I've been waiting for a flyable Whirlwind since the dawn of flight sims...

Whirly cockpit layout, all seems rather generic so take a look around and play "I wonder what this does" it would be great to fly in clod, speed, multi engines cannons. The pilots who flew them rather liked them and regreted them being withdrawn from service altho without more powerful engines and lots of development it would have been hopelessly outclassed in the mid to latter stages of the war.
