Satisfied ?
Inspired by MP's thread to end all threads..
I thought I'd just try and get some idea of where things are, it's hard to tell with lots of repeat threads. So which best describes how you feel about CoD today.. |
Confident, it's just the beginning!

I'm ok with it..
I guess it's safe to say that the launch has been pretty far from a succesful one. However having applied all the patches except the one still in beta phase for me the game is quite playable.
My FPS is ok (have a nice rig too), I think the game looks good (terrain & the colours work for me) and I've got the best WW2 simming experiences of my life surviving some of the tougher missions with a few kills to bring home with me. What I still want is: - Working radio comms - Getting rid of the supernatural AI moves - A good immersion adding briefing screens to bring continuity (next patch?) - Great campaigns from the community with historical depth and details I'm sure there is a load of things to fix & stuff to add on top of the above, but those will do it for me and the rest is just extra I'll be happy to receive. A real dynamic campaign ofcourse is a dream, but I've given up about that as it seems to be a mission impossible for so many developers. Please excuse my ignorance: What is this talk about non functioning full screen? I've run the game in full screen without any issues for some time now. Are the aspects somehow incorrect or what's the fuzz about? |
I've put it away to see if it's fixed in the future
Not worth my time at the moment. I'll continue to watch the contortions of the devs here though. Thats always been half the game after all. |
To quote the great man himself;
"This is not the end, it is not even the beginning of the end, but it is perhaps the end of the beginning." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdRH5wzCQQw |
Playing and enjoying it, despite the flaws.
I must say though, the devs really, really need to implement the comms as soon as possible. Place holders for engine sounds is one thing, dodgy AI is one thing, but they're at least functional to a degree. Comms are...missing. |

If you guys have to click on the screen to get rid of the taskbar when CoD starts, then you're running in pseudo fullscreen mode.

I am playing and enjoying it, despite the flaws!:) Now there are shortcomings in any other projects. This is only the beginning of the project. Patience, gentlemen! Everything will be better!
|
I put it away for a while though I keep updating her with the latest official patches, checking if it`s flyable over Dover (currently it is not). I have shit hardware so no prob here, gonna build something better at the start of the next year so hopefully ClOD will be running bugfree at that time.
|
You should´ve added one option:
"I do not try to play anymore and wait till things get sorted out, meanwhile I get into the ME and skinning" So I put it away, but use it anyhow and have some fun with other aspects of the software... |
I voted: "I've put it away to see if it's fixed in the future" … because I don’t have the game yet.
After the US release I’m going to wait and see what happens before buying. I have no interest in beta testing a game that has been in development for 5 or 6 years and is still not ready. Time will tell, IL-2 Sturmovik is a great game so let’s see if IL-2 Sturmovik / Cliffs of Dover can hold onto its customers after a ruff start, I think it well. |
Still putting my system together but there's no rush, SLI might take awhile.

I tried to be as general as I could :) |
I enjoy it, despite it's flaws, because it beats the socks off FSX anyways, exept for ILS and instrument flights, but thats boring anyway after it's learned. I have one A2A plane, P47, but after learning to fly it, it's even more frustrating to not have the ability to shoot with it.

Took CLOD off my machine yesterday and put on Tom Clancy HAWX, which I got free with my joystick. Now I just pretend that I spent the $50 on that cheap thrill instead of CLOD and everything is okay.:-P
If it is easy to implement, maybe the developers could consider putting in texture compression. Most do not have vid cards with 1.5 GB of VRAM. That is atypical for gaming. All my other games run smooth as glass at decent resolutions with just 256 mb VRAM. Yet this game, at 640x480 and all settings toned down to barest of bare, when I run the tiger moth track(which is just one plane over land), I see pauses even though the frame rates, min, max and average are all above 30 fps. Also, I check youtube vids now and again and guys with the best systems and plenty of VRAM with high settings...I see that frame rates are decent, but I also notice only two or three planes in these videos...and I still see the pauses. So, that makes me not want to upgrade at this point in time. I need a lot more positive evidence before buying a new pc for this game, when my current pc suits me fine in every other way except for CLOD. Texture compression might be an interim solution for guys like me who are hesitant to invest in hardware at this point and have no reason to play CLOD otherwise. |

I read this forum almost daily for the past 4 years; page after page. I think I have a good idea that “I've put it away to see if it's fixed in the future” would be my exact course of action, so yes my vote was indeed a ethical. |
Enjoying it despite the problems.
That doesn't mean there are no problems, it just means they are gradually being reduced, making the sim usable and fun as time goes by. I run it on a two-year old PC with most of the settings on medium, it's smooth, to me it looks better than IL2 on max detail and has a lot more complexity to tinker with when flying the aircraft, so overall it works very well for me. |
stopped playing it until it improves a great deal.
I could live with the gfx and fps issues if the fm's were anywhere near close to reality, plus you could actually fly at the planes operational heights. but at the moment, just doesn't cut it for me. |

That is my understanding of the issue. |
I guess the closest one on this list for me is "put it away to see if it is fixed in the future"
Playability wise it works great now. The new beta seems to have made it very playable indeed. With that said.... If this game came out today in the state that it is in the best I could give it is a 6/10. Not because of playability, but yet replayability. I am not a very big online gamer, and it seems that this is the direction that this game wants to take. I wonder if a dynamic campaign will make its way in but for replayability purposes it lags far far behind the original Red Baron from the early 90's. I want to hear about how much of a badass I am for downing 5 planes (because I have unlimmited ammo of course)... and get scorned for when I leave my wingmen. A feel of progression really is missing. So at this time I check back in time from time to see if there are any new developments and play once or twice when a new patch comes out. Until the community brings depth to the single player experience. I am affraid I won't be able to fully enjoy the game. For what it is though, the flight model is supurb the damage effects are top notch, and you really feel good when you blow a plane out of the sky and watch it spiral to the ground. But it all disapears when you mess up and crash on landing just to get the same boring "I was glad to be back on the ground" speach. |
I putted it away! Maybe later! I VOTE PINK!
|
Shelved the game for the time being. Will check back later when hopefully most of the obvious problems have been fixed.
|
I'm fairly satisfied and I'm enjoying the sim dispite the flaws that are there. I also have faith in these guys after seeing what they did with the original IL2. It may not happen as fast as last time, but I do think before the end of the summer - she will be rockin'.;)

My trusty old Nvidia 6800 GT had 256 mb v-ram, and that was back in 2004 - seven years ago. You may get away playing a few console ports with such low v-ram, but in all honesty 1gb v-ram is about standard today. 512mb v-ram is about as low as you want to go nowadays. |
Agreed. The CLOD official vram specs are 512 minimum and 1gb recommended. But everything I've read says those aren't cutting it for the resolutions and eye-candy that guys want to play this game at. So if not, why isn't DX texture compression in the game so they can? It doesn't make any sense to me why they would exclude it, unless maybe it made the game really horrible to look at. If that is the case, they should have told us that we need 2gb cards. Those cards are high end, not the norm, but at least we are dealing in reality.
Anyway, the post above, I wasn't expecting to use my current 256 mb card for this game. I simply wanted to do fps benchmark, so I forced off all the card settings, stripped down the config.ini and lowered the resolution so that vram wouldn't cap out during the runs. |
"Put away till fixed"
Played the entire British "SCRIPTED" Campaign. Wasn't very exciting. Haven t played the Luftwaffe yet. Got turned off after the very 1st mission is bugged. And so what else is there to do? FMB? Not particularly interested in that at all, So that soughta really leaves the Quick Missions. Which at the end of the day get boring very fast. I do love the game FOR WHAT it could be, but at its present stage there REALLY isn't anything to continue with is there? I hate to bring it up. But the DCG that IL2 gave the game a longevity. Every mission was different and you played till you're death or the war ended.. AWESOME!! CoD ...VERY Boxed! Disappointed Regards |
What kind of masochist votes like this?
"I'm playing it and not enjoying it because of the flaws " I cry foul on this one, you must be enjoying something if you are playing it! It's not a chore it's a game if you don't like it don't play it. |
to many things dont work or are missing.
ill revisit the game in a couple months mabey things will have improved by then. |
Good poll (finally), thanks. Lots of work to be done but I'm not as pessimistic as some: Playing and enjoying it, despite the flaws.

It's probably got more to do with my bad wording of it... It's for peope who play it, get frustrated and play something else, I hope most people know what I meant. |
The problem with this game is the flashes of brilliance!
I get a little annoyed by the lack of some features, overall it runs pretty smooth for me, I'm waiting for the campaign to get fixed and to be able to loadout my planes and command wingmen, plus for the MP to work smoothly.. Problem stopping me from putting it away is the moments like I had just now, up against a pack of unsupported bombers, diving down on one, must have hit his fuel tank - he explodes in front of me I then swoop out of the dive and have to break sharply to avoid hitting a piece of his smoking fuselage at it tumbles past my wing... very cool! I then flew into flack and watched another bomber take a direct hit from flack right in front of me - blew him to pieces! This is of course balanced by all the sorties i empty all my ammo into the back of a bomber and it flys on happily, Oh how i wish we could land and rearm! So yeah, annoyingly addictive! I cant wait for it to be fixed! |

This isn't "fun" in the sense that flying IL2 would be fun. It's more like some kind of community service work. It's worth doing, because it may help the game get better faster, but it's certainly not instantly gratifying. |

Trying to play it through its flaws but I'm probably gonna stop playing it to see where it goes if the next patch doesnt make real headway so they can start adding content.
I always end up feeling very frustrated when i try to play this game at the moment if i'm honest. |
I have to say that after years of tweaking IL2 Sturmovic and its addons, I am kind of disappointed with this version. The ability to have a different pilot and start new campaigns was a nice idea in the old game. The ability to easily customize a quick mission was much easier in my opinion. There are many complaints that I am sure we could all bring up, but I am willing to wait to see where this game goes. I hope that the devs will continue to give it the support it needs and deserves. Patch on!;)
|
forgot a choice
You forgot an option. :)
"I know this game will be great if not given up on so I'm playing it and enjoying it despite the flaws, but believe we are owed more frequent and regular patches with improvements that don't further break the game until all features are included and in good operating condition as promised to the consumer at time of purchase." |
interesting!!
