Good stick with FFB

Hi everyone,

can you help me in choosing a good stick with FFB? I was using for last years Saitek Rumble force stick + Saitek pedals. Pedals are function well and I would like to obtain a system of throttle+stick with FFB. Are any variants here? Or just take Logitech G940 and try to sell saitek pedals? But saitek pedals looks better to me than of G940... And I hear many claims about reliability of G940... So, what you a thinking about? (c) :)

Look for a Microsoft Sidewinder FFB2 on Ebay...

I took advice from members on this site.....

Amazingly I won one a few weeks ago for £6.50:eek:

+1 wholeheartedly for the MS FFB2.

best FFB performing stick and build quality.

stay away from the logitech Force 3d Pro. I bought one (brand new) and that thing refused to center properly out of the box. Appears to be common problem with these sticks, i believe its actually the logitech gaming software that causes this (has some sort of auto calibration). The gimbals have so much slack around the center and the HS sensor is too sensitive, bad combination. force feedback feel and strength was dismal compared to the 10+ year old FFB2 i got from ebay.

I cant comment on the G940, i hear it has stronger motors but still has a lot of slack around the center and there is some jumping input when you're moving the controls slowly. it was a software bug - but it might have been fixed. I'd research further before buying, value wise it is pretty cheap for what you get. To be honest, i'm so happy with the FFB2 i wouldnt even consider it.

Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 is the one you need. G940 gets over heated very easily, you don't want to have breaks all the time.

Use the Sidewinder FFB2 from Microsoft in combination with the throttle of the Saitek X45 ! I have that working on my system already for years, it works great together and doesent cost half as much as some other highlevel new HOTAS flightsticks!

Another vote for MSFFB2 absolutely fantastic stick. I wish Microsoft would pull there finger out and start making fantastic gaming peripherals again.

If you want good FFB, go for Microsoft FFB2. It is not manufactured anymore, but is often available on eBay. Given the fact, that it holds high price and you will still need something else for throttle, this can get costly, unless you manage to acquire half dead X52 (ask Kaya or Falcon, I think they have X52 collecting the dust).

The only other option is G940. FFB and precision isn't so good as Microsoft stick, but it is available for you locally, you will get warranty, it has dual throttle (handy for manual pitch) and the difference in cost will not be so great, if you sell your current pedals.

Thank you for your info, mates. Seems Microsoft FFB2 is still on the top. Sad that it is cancelled product... But what options are in general regarding FFB stuff? Maybe I'm googling wrong, but in results I see just G940, MS FFB and Logitech 3D... Ok, need to think, still have time to that. Anyway have no possibilities now to play for 1-2 months. Maybe to that time and CoD will be fixed to acceptable level?

Be warned: if on Windows 7 you´ll get no FFB at all on the MS FFB2.

Not true..my MS FFB2 is working fine with Win7 64bit

Flashman 05-04-2011 09:27 PM

I have MS FFB2. I got it off ebay (not for £6.50 though you lucky *^*^$&^%!!) and I liked it so much I bought another just in case the first one breaks, though it hasn't yet.. well sort of...

If you ever find the forces stop you have probably blown the power supply card. I had to but a cheap Laptop power supply and wire it up to the stick. Its actually made the forces a little bit stronger! I think I broke mine when I dropped it though, its not a known weakness!

I haven't rtied any other but these sticks are great.

Mine works fine under Win7 64 bit and XP 32 bit. The only problem with Win 7 is that the software doesn't work and as such you cant mess about with the forces or use the button software, however I havent found this to be a major problem.

dash2099 05-05-2011 04:10 PM

I can concur the ffb2 is working well in win7 x64 and xp32 too. you will have to rely on the game to tweak the ffb forces. I haven't had any need for a standalone utility so far.

That's a very interesting mod! May I post this in the central MS FFB2 topic? What voltage uses the stick anyway, 12 V?

I believe, and please note the believe, its 24 volts DC. Thats what power supply I use, a cheap 24v PSU from maplin (cant remember the type, im writing this from my laptop not games machine).

i couldn't directly find anything on the t'interweb which stated it was 24v and to be honest i can't rightly remember how i determined it was 24 volts (i made this mod about 2 years ago) but i did and it works!

I could me more vague if that might help.......

Hello!

I have flown more than ten years with MS FFB2 and I have tested Logitech's and Thrustmaster's FFB sticks and MS FFB2 is superb if we compare it to newer competitors. I recomend it.

Yeah, the MS FFB2 works fine in Win 7 x64, no need to install any software either (other than the drivers Win will install itself).

Yes but you need to install the latest patches for the game for FFB to work. These patches are still beta though.

Just adding another confirmation to this. FFB2 works fine in Win7 x64.

Best stick ever.

+1

+ two sets of Saitek Throttle Quadrants to have 6 additional sliders just in case... ;)
this is a slider-intensive game....

(maybe I should change my callsign to RBJ...) :D

Win7-64 and it works fine (incl. FFB)
